I am planning on staying at the Boardwalk Villas in August, although I haven't booked yet. Is the transportation to MK really very slow? How many other stops do the buses make before heading to MK? Is Boardwalk the first stop when heading to the park?

You're going to love BWV!!! It's my home resort..I'll be there in August as well. But, I digress....
The transportation at BW is pretty similar to the other deluxe resorts. You can walk to either Epcot or MGM but have to take the bus to AK and MK. Those buses aren't too bad, they come pretty frequently. It's those darned DTD buses that seem to be few and far between.
As for stops, the bus heads to BW, Swan, Dolphin, and sometimes to YC/BC. Now, there are times when it seems to head to the Swan first, then the Dolphin and then BW. When I was at the Dolphin in Dec we seldom went to BW...perhaps just once. When at the Swan last month, I don't think I remember stopping at BW once, so the bus must have already stopped there. Not much help, I know. But, I haven't had a bad 'standing room only' experience while boarding at BW yet, so you should be fine.

I have always found BW to be the last picked up heading out and the last dropped off comming back.

I agree.....the BW is usually the last to be picked up and the last to be dropped off! We usually get off at at the Swan (or is it the Dolphin) and walk over the bridge to BWV. Last Easter, we went to Swan, Dolphin, Yacht, then Beach Club, and then BW -- returning from MK. The only good thing is that EPCOT is in walking distance, and you can walk to take the boat to MGM. Tbere have been a lot of complaints about the BW bus service, but it seems to depend on crowds. Last New Year's, we were at the queue for MK waiting for a BWV bus, and ended up taking a bus to Swan/Dolphin because the line was smaller and there were more buses picking them up.
Don't worry too much.....there does not seem to be a set pattern for the buses! Have fun!

We stayed at BWV in November and I had no complaints w/ transportation to the parks. We never stopped at another resort on the way to a resort; however, transportation from the parks wasn't always great. In some cases, it seemed to take forever for the bus to come. In those situations, as others have suggested, we would hop on the D/S bus and then just walk the 10 mins from there back to BW. We did run into this situation coming home from MK.

In other cases there were multiple stops on the way back from the parks. It would stop at D/S, then YC/BC, then BW. I can't remember the full details, but I believe the buses w/ multiple stops were for DTD, and possibly Typhoon Lagoon.

However, the convenience of being able to walk to Epcot and MGM, far outweighed any inconvenience of the buses.
