boardwalk nightmare!

Preferred view @ BWV IS pool or garden, so that was a true statement whether you agreed with it or not. And as Deb said, not all rooms @ DVC locations are available for stays on points. You should know the facts and policies before you complain about them.

Last I checked Boardwalk view is its own booking category within the preferred point structure. has that changed?

There is standard view, and then there is preferred (which is garden/pool or Boardwalk - of which you can specifically book Boardwalk view).

Nothing I said said that was changed, just that it was commented that a garden or pool view was not a preferred view - but it actually is. They are the same points as Boardwalk view, so it just depends on what value someone puts on the view as to whether it's worth it or not - I was just commenting on the names of the choices.

Reading the post that you responded to, I believe that person originally indicated that they had booked a Boardwalk View room. The way I read it was that the front desk tried to assign a pool room and tell the member that since it was a Preferred View (which it is), they should be happy. I can see why that person would not be happy with this front desk person.

Just a note to say I think the OP handled this very well on her part. Some people would have let this ruin their vacation. That doesn't seem like the case here. Enjoy the rest of it!!

that was my post in my eyes a pool view should be considered a standard view.I am on vacation i don't want to hear screaming kids at the top on the clown slide screaming for there parents to take a picture of them at all hours of the day.I want what i was promised when i called to make my ressie seven months out member services called over to the boardwalk reservations desk and said we were all set for a boardwalk view.Come on now we all pay alot in fees we should get what we pay for.I would of rathered of had a view overlooking the canal facing the swan.I have been a dvc member since 2007 and not once have i gotten into the beach club i ask for it every time i book a trip to disney and every time i am told it is sold out i realize that boardwalk and beach club are popular and convenient for the location to epcot and hollywood but every single time since 2007 are you kidding me.

If you do not own BCV points and are trying for F&W time you probably will not get a villa there. Other times of year can be equally difficult since there are so few rooms. I have been a member since 1997 and have gotten the same response for Sept and Oct stays if I called at 7 months or less. I have gotten the ones I want at BCV when I called at the 11 month point however.
Since I own at BCV I know I should call early but sometimes there are last minute trips that come up and I am glad to get a room anywhere.
I agree that if your reservation said BW view that is what you should have gotten if it was made after they made that a guaranteed type of reservation and not just a request.

We just got back from a stay at AKV Kidani. We never received a text message that our room was ready. DW just went up to the room and saw that it was done and mousekeeping wasn't around. We were given the room number when we checked in.

They said it was a computer issue when I inquired later about the lack of text message.

Sounds somewhat similar to a visit we had a OKW once. We checked in around 7:30 or 8AM. Did the parks, came back around 3 to see if our villa was ready. Not yet. Waited in Papa's Den until 4 and checked again. Still not ready. We finally got in at almost 6PM. The people who were in our villa had failed to vacate the villa and had gone to the parks. When they returned, management asked them to leave so they finally did around 4:30. They left the villa a total mess and the housekeepers had to clean it up.

OK, that would really tick me off. Some people:confused3:confused3

Oh yeah, I can't disagree with that - if you book a booking category, you should get what you booked. Again, I was just making the point that Boardwalk and Garden/Pool are all considered preferred, not on whether they are equal in the eyes of any member.

Siggy - sorry you never get BCV when you want it - it must be when you are going or how early (or late) you are booking, because we've been able to get BCV both times we wanted it at 7 months, including Christmas/New Year's week. It all goes back to the buy where you want to stay thing, IMO, and I feel fortunate that we have been able to try most of the resorts in our 3 years of ownership. But if I couldn't get what I wanted at 7 months, I wouldn't be mad about it, just figuring out a way to buy points where I wanted to be if it was that important to me. But again, we've had great luck with 7 month non-home reservations.

As to boardwalk view = garden/pool - I understand that you don't like it, but it is a fact that from a points standpoint, they are all preferred not standard.

:happytv:We are actually packing and driving today. My school system does not get out until the 23rd this year:scared1: so I have to go back to work. Just took this one day off so we could have an anniversary weekend and see CP as our anniversary gift to each other. :thumbsup2

The CP was great. A little cold - but worth the drive. :goodvibes

now that you are home - you really need to send DVC a letter - saying what went wrong.

believe me that manager certainly is not going to tell anyone. So you need to - to be certain it does not happen again.

otherwise she will assume her bullying worked. She needs to be reported and even worst DVC needs to find out what went wrong. If it was a system problem or people problem.

when CM do wonderful things - definitely believe in saying it - and the other is true too - when something bad happens - DVC can't make it better until they know.

glad you have a good time despite the room problem

What a preferred view 'should be' in your eyes doesn't mean much to DVC. The vast majority of people enjoy a pool view. I've had a pool view many times and it has never been loud enough to bother me..especially at night.
I have to ask, where do you own your points at??? I've been able to stay at BCV twice now, but own at BWV. There have been times that I have not been able to get what I want at BWV...Food and Wine Festival comes to mind...even if I just miss the 11 month window by a day or so. These are small resorts..if you want to stay there, at historically busy times, you really need to own there and call at the 11 month window.

I was at BWV a few weeks ago, checking into my villa. I was having my own share of issues..one villa was still occupied, the next one had a defective lock. Well...as I was being taken care of, I overhead a couple off to the side, speaking to a manager. Seems they had been given a room occupied by someone else..and they were quite peeved about it. They were comped a nice free dinner that night!! Perhaps I should have made a bigger scene...but that's just not me.

Was this last Tuesday, the 14th. We never got a call and was told there was a problem, the computers were "down."

It was at BWV that we had a 2 bedroom, we were given keys, but the "studio" part wasn't cleaned. We were happy that we all had a place to change, and by the time we got home after CP that night all was well. This was during the Holiday season 2004 and it was very very crowded.

DDiL has a way about her. When our room wasn't ready in June and it was after 5, somehow she got management to give us a $100 gift card. All I get is a smile and "the computer is down."

Bobbi:lmao:

You are correct however when the poster stated that it was not a preffered room that was an erroneous statement. It was a preffered room jus not the type of preffered room they had requested. Yes the CM was rude though.
This is why I like OKW. Whenever I have stayed there and we had a problem with something they bent over backwards to make things right. The one time we had to wait past till 6 for our room we were given a dinning credit.

Disney has horrible IT. If you look over on the resorts board, there have been so many problems with the recent reservation computer system change, it's not just the DVC resorts. I don't understand why a company as big as Disney doesn't iron out these problems in a test environment. They have been promising an online booking system for DVC for about 10 years and I'm scared if they ever do roll it out it will be a disaster.

Well said, DebbieB! ITA! :thumbsup2

I've had similar problems in the past - not getting the text message. In early Dec at BLT I checked at the desk a couple of times b/c of that. Not because we were late getting into the room though. Actually the second time I wouldn't have but a concierge CM that had helped me earlier with MVMCP tickets (and had computer problems doing it) saw me and asked if she could help with anything. She called housekeeping who said they weren't even in the room yet. 20 minutes later I got a text saying it was ready. Must have been the fastest cleaning of a 2BR ever! :rotfl:

Best one was June at GCV. I was given a card to call on the status and had also asked for a message. 4PM came and went and still nothing. So I went to a house phone to call. You're supposed to enter an option for what you want to do. Well, the house phones are GC/GCV are made to be an old style - and are rotary!! The system would not accept a dialed 4. :rotfl2: A trip to the front desk finally told me the room had been ready for a few hours. And the message I was supposed to get actually went to our home phone. I got it 3 days later.

We seem to get text messages about 2/3 of the time. That's not a big issue for me. It's nice, but we usually are out until after 4:00. I've never waited past 4:00 for a room.

I want to say thanks to everyone for commiserating with me during the misadventure.:grouphug: It made us feel better! DH was asking me to read responses to him. :goodvibes

Boardwalk's new rooms look great. They just need better management! I'm sure that in this economy there are lots of people that would love a chance to pour their heart into a job as cool as managing the Boardwalk. It deserves a management team that feel the love and really want to be there.....

Please do not blame all for the actions of a few. I know the GM at the BW and he would be as upset over what happened as everyone else.

If one particular manager did not represent the resort well, I suggest you write and let them know, for believe me they do care.

Sadly the GMs can not be at the Front Desk when everyone checks in as they are very busy people. About a year ago Disney downsized all the managers at each resort and gave them two very busy jobs that in the past had seperate general managers.

Was it a good idea, of course not, but it came from the higher ups and it was agree with it, or lose your job.

You are very lucky to have never waited past 4pm for you room since check in for DVC is after 4pm.

siggy57 - Look at the dates you have been going. Most of these are during the highest DVC use times of the year. It is no wonder that you can not get into BCV. If you can go in Jan, May, and early in Sep you will most likely get into BCV. I have stayed multiple times in BCV at less that 5 months outs and even one time, one hour out.
