Boardwalk Inn Questions

We will be vacationing at WDW in December. We usually stay at the WL or AKL, but this will be the first time we will be staying at the Boardwalk Inn. I've always wanted to stay in the Epcot resort area, but we love the WL so much that we usually return there time after time. We will be traveling with our 5 year old daughter, and I am wondering about the dining facilities and the refillable mug options. Is it a pain in the neck to find a quick meal and a place to refill your mug, or fairly painless?
Also, any info or tips you have about this resort will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

First tip: read the FAQ thread at the top of this board, it has loads of info on BWI.

My family loved BWI when we stayed there... we plan to return again this winter. We had previously stayed at the Poly but we found the BWI to be very kid friendly, great staff. I have two kids who were 6 and 9 when there. They LOVED the Luna Park pool, the lifeguards were very friendly and the Keister Coaster is awesome! There is a poolside bar where you can get kids meals (hot dogs, chips and drink for example) and salads and sandwiches. There is a take out window for pizza and calzones at Spoodles and a hot dog cart. Lots of sweets to go too. Also ESPN is great for families, very kid friendly. I read a post where someone ordered take out for their tired family from ESPN. Oh, there are tables right on the BW to eat all this take out. Of course there is Spoodles, FF and BRG. But the best is the BWBakery... everything is great there, breakfast, snacks and desserts. You can get juice boxes and yogarts too. And.... there is a small general store on the BW with limited groceries. I think refillable mugs are done at the Bakery (I didn't do that so not sure). Lastly don't forget you can go over to BC resturants and walk into the back of Epcot too!

vicb, something you posted popped out at me. LoL You CAN get take out at ESPN? We have always wanted to eat there but every time we visit the Boardwalk they are extremely busy and we can't get a table. Next trip we are planning on staying a few nights at BWI so that would be great if we could get the food to go.

I haven't done it myself but read a poster who said he called for take out and took it back to the villas for his family.

I love BWI. The location to Epcot and MGM, the night life you get right there. the rooms, decor and size wise, I wanna go back NOW!

Thanks for all of the great advice! I am really looking forward to my stay at the BWI. I just wish December would come a little sooner! Also, I have read from other posters that some of the standard view rooms look over part of Epcot, and that you can see the fireworks from Illuminations. Do I need to request a certain area, or just go with the flow?

MBaker--We'll be there in December too! Taking DM, DW, DSx2, DB. Second time staying there. Some of the rooms do have a view where you can see Illuminations and the Tower in France. If you are staying concierge you can see the Fireworks from the lounge balcony.

We stayed at the BWI in January and loved it!! When I sent my room request fax, I put "a room with a pretty view". We were given top floor overlooking Epcot (standard view). It was wonderful. My DD was 2 and she went to bed early and in this room we could watch the fireworks from our balcony. Very magical!!

Regarding the refillable mugs, you can get them refilled at the Bakery, at the Spoodles pizza window, the candy store, and Leaping Libations (by the pool). We did not have any problems getting them refilled.
