Just some quick notes
DS-16 and I took 4-night trip to celebrate his 16th birthday. Arrived on Thurs. 16th and departed on Mon. 20th.
For a long time we had batted around the idea of a trip just for him to celebrate his 16th. He has three younger siblings with the youngest being just two. He has done many turns on Winnie the Pooh and Dumbo along with consecutive trips through it's a small world without complaint, so it seemed fair to do a trip with his itinerary. Also, he has had juvenile arthritis for most of his life along with battling asthma until the last couple of years. He never mentions any of this until we ask him directly, so we tend to forget just howmuch he has had to go through! We managed to get $128 airfare out of PIT and an AP rate, so we decided to go for it.
We checked-in around five on Thurs. The only request I had made was a garden view and we were given room 5306 with a fantastic view of Epcot. We could even see the fires on the lake during Illuminations. The room was in great shape. The paint on the trim was so fresh it gleamed. There weren't even any chips or marks from normal use. The balcony and room were both spotless. It was even close to the elevator, which our rooms on our past two trips surely weren't
When we returned from Epcot after Illuminations the first evening, there were cupcakes, balloons, and a birthday card waiting
At 16 one doesn't like to admit to such things, but I could tell DS was really pleased
We had only casually mentioned the birthday at check-in when CM Jeff had offered to print off our PS list and commented on what great choices they were. I said it was DS's birthday trip and he had selected the resort and the restaurants. Later in the trip, we passed Jeff in the lobby and he stopped and asked how the trip was going and if DS had a magical birthday!
I was surprised when I called housekeeping to request a coffeemaker and was asked if I would like coffee also. I said sure and they delivered coffee, cups, powdered creamer, sugar, sweetener, and stirrers. Never had that happen before, but I'm not complaining.
I must say to green roofs at the BWI make a nice contrast to the heavy frost that we saw on them
I'm not sure they have any heat in the hallways at the BWI. There sure were cold in the mornings. It may have been cold, but the sun was usually out and it was sure a lot warmer than home.
In spite of the cool temps, it was a great trip. This was the first time for me without little ones in tow. It's amazing how much more you can get done when you don't have to do Fantasyland or baby swap. I missed the other three like crazy though!
The BWI is still my favorite resort
