Just some quick notes:cool:

DS-16 and I took 4-night trip to celebrate his 16th birthday. Arrived on Thurs. 16th and departed on Mon. 20th.

For a long time we had batted around the idea of a trip just for him to celebrate his 16th. He has three younger siblings with the youngest being just two. He has done many turns on Winnie the Pooh and Dumbo along with consecutive trips through it's a small world without complaint, so it seemed fair to do a trip with his itinerary. Also, he has had juvenile arthritis for most of his life along with battling asthma until the last couple of years. He never mentions any of this until we ask him directly, so we tend to forget just howmuch he has had to go through! We managed to get $128 airfare out of PIT and an AP rate, so we decided to go for it.

We checked-in around five on Thurs. The only request I had made was a garden view and we were given room 5306 with a fantastic view of Epcot. We could even see the fires on the lake during Illuminations. The room was in great shape. The paint on the trim was so fresh it gleamed. There weren't even any chips or marks from normal use. The balcony and room were both spotless. It was even close to the elevator, which our rooms on our past two trips surely weren't

When we returned from Epcot after Illuminations the first evening, there were cupcakes, balloons, and a birthday card waiting:bounce: :p At 16 one doesn't like to admit to such things, but I could tell DS was really pleased;) We had only casually mentioned the birthday at check-in when CM Jeff had offered to print off our PS list and commented on what great choices they were. I said it was DS's birthday trip and he had selected the resort and the restaurants. Later in the trip, we passed Jeff in the lobby and he stopped and asked how the trip was going and if DS had a magical birthday!

I was surprised when I called housekeeping to request a coffeemaker and was asked if I would like coffee also. I said sure and they delivered coffee, cups, powdered creamer, sugar, sweetener, and stirrers. Never had that happen before, but I'm not complaining.

I must say to green roofs at the BWI make a nice contrast to the heavy frost that we saw on them:rolleyes: I'm not sure they have any heat in the hallways at the BWI. There sure were cold in the mornings. It may have been cold, but the sun was usually out and it was sure a lot warmer than home.:sunny:

In spite of the cool temps, it was a great trip. This was the first time for me without little ones in tow. It's amazing how much more you can get done when you don't have to do Fantasyland or baby swap. I missed the other three like crazy though!

The BWI is still my favorite resort:D

Dixie Luvr 98:

What a wonderful time you must have had! DH & I are going in March, 1st time without kids, and staying at BWI. Was your room a standard view?

I loved reading your report!! I took my daughter and left my 2 sons home with Dad the summer before her senior year. I told my two sons they would also each have a turn to go with just Mom.(we take a family trip about 2 times each year) My oldest son will be 16 this October and has always complained that he never got to be at Disney near his Birthday(my other two have both been near their birthdays)So your report has given me an IDEA! Maybe he would like to be there when he turns 16? I already checked and his BDay is on a Friday-PERFECT!! Thanks for posting! I am so glad you and your son had a good time! You do miss the others but I think the child that gets to go has really special memories. Joan:D

Dixie Luvr 98, I'm so glad you and DS had a great trip and I too think the BWI is a nice resort. I'm not surprised you DS has such a positive attitude on life despite his hardships because you sound like you have a positive attitude too. I know it was very cold down there and some would have let that spoil their trip but it sounds like you made the best of it. :D :sunny:

I can't help but smile when reading your post. I'm glad you had a great time. Everyone needs to feel special every now and then. We were there too and yes it was cold but we loved every mintute of our trip.

Doing this for him...right now.....especially at his age....was so great of you. SOOOO glad that you had fun.

kmermaid--Yes it was a standard view room. The first two times we stayed there we had water view with the second being a concierge deluxe room. I honestly don't know that I would pay extra for water view now unless the prices were really close. I think one of the great things about the BWI is having the bustle of the BoardWalk on one side and the peaceful secluded gardens on the other.

Joan--The idea for this trip was planted when we took a family trip in June of 2001 to celebrate the birthdays of middle DS and DD who were born on the 23rd and 17th. At the time, the oldest said, "One thing about it, I'll never get to celebrate my birthday at Disney World being born in January". It was fun to get to see that he did. Of course, now the others are campaigning for the same treatment:p

Thanks everyone for your positive comments. We did have a great time!

(They really DO grow up fast don't they?!)

Dixie Lvr - Thanks for the report - I'm taking my family to BWV to celebrate my 50th next Jan 16 ! My DDs and DS were born quite far apart and I've taken them all on individual trips to WDW over the years - priceless !- next year will be the first time in 10 years that we will all be going down together - (even my 1st grandchild on-the-way - who will be 5 mos. old for the trip) - I wanted to give everyone plenty of notice so they can schedule it! I know we'll all have as special a time as you did - want to be where I feel the youngest for this one!!:smooth:

Glad to hear you had such a GREAT trip! I really enjoyed the BWI when I stayed there, and I will be staying there again for my honeymoon in December. What a neat surprise for your DS's birthday!

What a magical trip!! Hope your son enjoyed his birthday. How nice of Jeff to make your trip so special.
