Boardwalk Busses

What a lot of people seem to forget is with the Boardwalk you can take a boat or walk to Epcot and Hollywood Studios, so those are two less buses you need to worry about and why you need to also see the good about staying there. Now when my family and I are staying at the Boardwalk this August we will have our own car since were driving down, so it's great when we go to Downtown Disney. However we wouldn't mind taking the buses to the Magic Kingdom and the Animal Kingdom, plus since we have not stayed there yet I want to see just how their bus service is before giving my opinion about it.

You don't need a bus to MK. The EPCOT monorail goes there.

But it takes just as long to walk through Epcot when going to the Monorail and it doesn't go to the Magic Kingdom, it goes to the TTC and from there you take the Express Monorail or boat over to the Magic Kingdom. Personally that's also something we wouldn't do when going to the Magic Kingdom, however if others want to do that it's their choice.

I've only stayed at the Boardwalk once so far. It was over the dreaded Christmas-New Years week. Never once did we stop at the BC/YC. We didn't always stop at the S&D either. But, as others have pointed out, you either walk/boat to DHS and EPCOT. My time spent on busses that week was cut in half. It was nice.

When we were staying at the BWV a couple weeks ago, on the rare instances when we used the buses, we noticed the following:

1. The BWV shared a bus, at that time, only with Swan & Dolphin.

2. For going to the MK, except the one day we went at rope drop and drive and got 3rd row parking, it was generally quicker to do the bus.

3. Walking to and through Epcot, to catch the monorail, to then transfer at the TTC, change platforms and then go on to the MK would only be faster in those rare instances when something goes wrong with the buses (a 90 minute wait, which we never encountered, had to have been a system error). That is very long walk, and the monorails don't run all that dependably, in my opinion, and the long lines that form make me jumpy.

4. The MK buses seemed to run constantly and we never waited more than about 5 minutes, so even with the stops at S/D, it was still quicker than driving, parking, taking the tram and then the monorail or boat.

5. Returning from the MK, at least at during our trip, the YC/BC bus stop was next to the BW bus stop (I believe they can move around, so this may not always work), so we just hopped on whichever bus came first. The walk from the YC/BC is easy. Granted, we weren't waiting for a bus at busy times, so a long line would have made this an unworkable gamble.

6. Personally, I find the monorail no more pleasant than the buses. The fact that it runs on a track, to me, doesn't make it any less crowded, full of people jostling for position, subject to being "full" and having to wait for another monorail, etc., so I don't enjoy it beyond the sentimental value, which I'll stipulate is significant.

7. The walks to Epcot and DHS are easy and pleasant. So quick and convenient, better than any other transportation option in my opinion.

8. We drove to AK, DD, and once to MK. I prefer walking and driving to buses and monorails any day.

Just my insights. We love the BWV!!!

I have stayed at all of these resorts -- Yacht, Beach, Boardwalk, Swan, and Dolphin. The location is great b/c you can walk to DHS and Epcot. But, the buses leave much to be desired. The route is slow, and we often have to stand. That said, I often get off the bus at the first stop and walk back to whichever hotel I'm at--like the first stop Swan is close to Boardwalk. The buses here are my biggest pet peeve, and IMHO do not run as well as other resorts (like Coronado, Pop, and AKL).

We are headed to the BWI for the first time in November, so I find this thread very interesting. My question is - is the Swan/Dolphin stop one stop or two? Same with the YC and BC - one or two? Meaning, do the buses (that would happen to be all combined) make 5 stops (Swan, Dolphin, BW, YC, and BC) or 3 stops (Swan/Dolphin, BW, YC/BC)?

I am not too concerned because we will spend the majority of our time at Epcot and DHS. We will only make one trip to MK and one to AK. But we do enjoy DTD and will probably want to go there at least twice.

Thanks! :goodvibes

S/D and YC/BC share a stop, so if it hits all 3 resorts, it's a total of 3 stops.

Swan and Dolphin each has their own bus stop, along with YC and BC. 4 stops between them. I stay at BWV at least once a year, typically only take the bus to MK and have not seen a YC and BC stop in a long time.

Okay, so the Swan and Dolphin are 2 seperate stops? :upsidedow They must be pretty close to each other. . . And the YC and BC have seperate stops too? I am just trying to get an idea of how long it will take to make all the stops. We are used to the moderates, they each have several stops within the resort, but very close to each other - so all the stops take less than 10 minutes.

You don't need a bus to MK. The EPCOT monorail goes there.
You'll also need a hopper or annual pass to do this as you have to go through EPCOT first. In the heat of the summer months, I'd rather wait for a bus than walk through a sea of sweaty people.

Oops. My memory must be failing me. :>

Yes. The bus leaves BW, goes out to the road, then turns into the Swan, picks up, back out on the road, turns into Dolphin, picks up, back out on the road. If it would continue to YC, it would turn in there and pickup and it can get to the BC stop without going back on the road, it just goes through the parking lot.

I would take a cab if I were you. The busses to DTD aren't that frequent and are often really crowded. It stops at all five resorts and sometimes Typhoon Lagoon too. We always stay at one of the Epcot resorts and the only bad bus experiences we had were to DTD.

True..We always end our day at Epcot though, so we like to stroll out the IG back to BCV..We learned Staying at the Epcot resorts that this is when it pays to have a park hopper
