Does every room have a balcony? Are they as big as the Contemp. balconies, just enough for two chairs.

Also MIL wants to be near us but she is a smoker, we will be in non-smoking due to DS's asthma. My thoughts are she should not smoke on balcony in the non-smoking section. Is there any official policy??

I believe the offical policy is - no smoking even on the balcony in a non-smoking room. There was a really long thread about this subject not too long ago. People called Disney got confirmation. Maybe if you did a search for "smoking" you could find it and get the whole scoop.

PS - I was really surprised at how many people get really sick when they come into contact with smoke

I know that the official DVC policy is no smoking on the balcony of a no smoking villa.

We had a non-smoking room at AKL a couple weeks ago and there was no smoking on the balcony also. They made a special point of telling us that at check-in.

I believe there is no smoking on any AKL sav view room balcony.

Disney will tell you you can smoke on any balcony. When I was a smoker I was told this numerous times never was I told no. They had housekeeping bring ash trays for the balcony! You will get various answers on this topic.

We did have a smoker beside us at BWV last August. I'm one of those people that just can't be around cigarette smoke. I just clog up and can't breathe. So, whenever the person next door was out smoking, I couldn't have my door open or go out on the balcony.

IMHO, goofy4tink's post is exactly why it shouldn't be aloud. Even if you aren't allergic, many of us prefer not to have to breathe in someone else's 2nd hand smoke. Yes, you may be outdoors if on a balcony, but I get a N/S room in order to not have to be exposed to someone elses smoke. :( I shouldn't have to be stuck inside my room with my door locked shut in a N/S room in order to avoid someone else's cigerette smoke. Yes you're outdoors, but smoke travels. It doesn't just float in the air right in front of your own personal space so please, keep that in mind the next time you decide to light up on a balcony of a N/S room. Even if you think you don't see anyone's room door open directly next to you or someone physically on their balcony, sometimes there are people above or below you ~ have had this happen a few times.

Anyway, sorry to rant and rave. Just please, think of these things even if CM's say it's okay. If you really want to smoke that badly, please try your best to get a smoking room. For some of us it's not just an annoyance, it's a health problem.

We have rented points from a DVC owner for a week stay at BWV. We have requested boardwalk views. Our son in law does smoke occasionally and since smoking doesn't really bother any of the rest of us smoking rooms won't be a problem. Are there any smoking rooms with a boardwalk view though? I don't want to give up the great view just because he wants to smoke. Would he be allowed to smoke down on the boardwalk itself or is the entire area smoke free? Thanks.

From what I have heard, all the boardwalk view rooms are non-smoking.

Does your reservation say boardwalk view? That is a reserved category, not a request.

OK but what about my balcony question?? Does every room have one and how big? (I knew I should never have opened up that smoking can of worms!)

Just got back a few weeks ago. This was the fourth time we've stayed at the Boardwalk.

The balcony I had was large. We stayed at a 1BR Villa and the balcony stretched from the bedroom side all the way to the living room side. There were a total of 4 chairs and 2 tables out there. In past visits, each room had separate balconies.

We had a 'garden view' room, but the view was actually by the pool with a nice shot of the Tower of Terror.

We don't know if a boardwalk view will be available yet. The owner won't be calling member services until next week but that's what we want if she can get it. As I said before my SIL can smoke somewhere else if all the rooms are non-smoking. If we can get a boardwalk view I'm sure not turning it down for that reason. Thanks DebbieB

kallison...I do believe all the BWV rooms have balconies. The ground floor rooms have patios. Some balconies are larger than others tho.

Scooth I hate to bust your bubble but all smoking rooms are on the second floor at the BWV's so regardless of your room assignment you may very well be stuck with smokers right under you on all sides. So if you stay there be prepared to stay in your rrom witht he balcony door locked.

We have stayed at the BWI several times. It is our favorite resort! But.......... as someone else said, not all balconies are the same size. We discovered this on our last visit this summer. We got a room with a miniature balcony, more like a pulpet than a balcony. No chair could fit out there -- my DH tried! You simply could stand on it -- one person at a time.

Needless to say, we were quite disappointed. The resort was booked though, and no other room was available except a smoking room, which for health reasons was not feasible for us. So, we made the best of it.

Now, for any future visits we plan on requesting a "full balcony".
