Recently I made the decision to stay at the Boardwalk for Christmas 2002 and decided to also invite my family from England. I worked out that I would need the following:

1, 2 bedroom standard from 12/21-12/26 (My family)
1, standard studio from 12/22-12/29 (My parents)

I started calling and was booking each day, as it became available. I booked 12/24 last Friday and was all set to book 12/25, 12/26 and 12/27 on Monday. I explained to the agent on Friday that on Monday I would not be able to call until about 10am as I had a meeting and she assured me that if I call within the first couple of hours I would NOT have a problem booking. I got out of my meeting a little early and ended up calling at approx. 9:50am. After a wait I got through only to find out that there were NO standard view for both my reservations on 12/25. Now I am stuck with both reservations going from a standard to a preferred on one day. With the two bedroom I have to move for the final night and for the studio, my parents will have to go to a preferred for one night and then move back to a standard.

I spoke to a very kind manager who told me that I am probably first on the wait list and that he is 90%sure that there will NOT BE A PROBLEM SWITCHING back to a standard within the next 4 months. He even told me that he would call me personally and let me know when the standard is available as he likes to be the person to give good news

My question to all of you is this. Do you agree with the manager and think that there will not be a problem getting the standard for the entire stay. I do not like the idea of having to change rooms on Christmas day! Let me know what you all think
Thank you!!!:bounce:

Well, you are certainly proof that for Christmas time, you need to call daily (and first thing in the morning) to assure getting standard view. I don't know whether the manager's prediction will come true but it often happens that people switch their reservations and thus it is possible and often likely for something to come open particularly if you are high on the wait list and seeking only one night.

One problem is a lack of any Christmas track record under the current system. In the past, Christmas was on the the "special seasons list" which meant that you could sign up to get a room up to two years in advance and then about 14 months out they start assigning rooms in the order people put themsellves on the list. As a result, those who chose to wait to reserve until 11 months out were just getting whatever was leftover from reservations made off the list. This is the first year there that there is no special seasons list and everyone is clamoring for ressies 11 months out for Christmas, and there is no historrical track record under the current system for Christmas to predict whether you will get what you need.

Since you are high on the wait list, the likelihood that someone will have a change of plans over the next 11 months is pretty good.

We've had EXCELLENT experience waitlisting on 2 occasions for a standard view to "complete" a standard view reservation which we made at 10 months out. I wouldn't worry about it:) :) :) .......
