We are heading down in a few weeks and we were planning on heading over to the boardwalk area to see what it's about. Can someone tell me what's over there? Attractions, shopping, entertainment, etc? Any must do's over there? How much time should we set aside?

There is more action in the evening. When we stayed there we noticed that the game stands along the boardwalk weren't open untill later.

Definitely go in the evening. They have surrey bikes you can rent, hair wraps and face painting. Carnival type games like squirting water into the clowns mouth. There is strolling entertainment like magician, etc.... lot's of fun to watch. There is an ice cream/candy shop, restaurants, ESPN club, shopping, funnel cakes, kiosks selling coffee, corn dogs, etc... Also a couple photo booths. You can walk around the lake and visit the YC/BC and check out their lobbies and shops. The BW lobby is beautiful too. We like sitting by the water eating ice cream and people watching. You can also see the upper fireworks from Illuminations on the BW. The BW just is a fun place to visit with a great atmosphere at night.

Good description! Hearing you say it like that really makes me excited for our trip there in Jan.

it was like a ghost town when we went there during the daytime last year. this year we are staying at the swan so im loking forward to seeing the boardwalk all open at nightime.

I've never been to the Boardwalk either, and was curious about it. By the way, do they have it decorated at Christmas time??

I can not Belive it that we have never been over there:confused3 , can not really tell you why not,I guess we just feigure there was really nothing worth going over there for. We will make it a point to go over there on this trip, and diffently at night. It really sounds like alot of fun.

Not sure about Christmas decorations but it's really nice to do the Boardwalk at night. Lots of street performers and nice weather. I love Big River Grille and Spoodles. The shops have the typical goods but it's still fun to walk through. There's not as much to do, IMO, as I do not like biking, carnival games or hair wraps  but it's nice just to walk around, see the fireworks, enjoy the breeze and watch the performers.

Also, go and explore the Boardwalk Resort!

I didn't plan on heading that way on our upcoming trip, but our 1st night is completely open, so maybe it's a consideration.

How would one get there from the AKL? I'm assuming take a bus from our hotel, to Epcot?

One night, while the Grandparents were watching the kids, Greg and I dressed up and went to the evening EMH at Epcot. We walked around the World Showcase, stopping for drinks at the countries that were serving and made our way to the Boardwalk just before Epcot closed. We hung out at Jellyrolls and took a cab back to our resort. We had a blast! And a very romantic night...

What time do the street performers stop and the carnival games close? We were planning on going our 1st night, but now our flight will not get in until 7pm.

You can do that, but then you will have to walk all the way through Future World and part of World Showcase, exit WS via the International Gateway and then walk over to Boardwalk.

It will be shorter to take a bus to Hollywood Studios and then walk or take a boat from there.

You could also bus from AKL to AK and then take a different bus from there to BW.

Quicker than all of these (but more costly) will just be to take a cab directly from AKL to BW.

Are the performers out every night or just on weekend nights? I have heard differing things about that...

Thanks.

They were out on weeknights when we were there 3 weeks ago. One of the magicians was great - VERY funny. We found him both outside on the BW and in the BW lobby. The live entertainment is usually very good.

The performers are out every night. Just different ones perform on certain nights. Things close up about 11pm. The 2 clubs do stay open later. The best way to get to the BW from a resort, IMHO would be to just take a cab. It would be less that $10 and much quicker than a bus. If you have a lot of time, then you have a couple of options as mentioned in an above post. If I didn't take a cab, I would just take a bus from my resort to MGM and then walk over to the BW via the walk way there. If you don't want to walk you can take the boat, but walking will be faster.

I'm glad my description of the BW has helped some of you out. It really is a cool place to visit. We'll be staying there again in Jan. It's great to have all of the "action" right at your door step!

Let's see if I can find a few pictures to post.....

I was going to do Boardwalk during the day and DTD at night. Sounds like i need to flip that. I'm sure the best way will be to take a bus from DTD to Boardwalk. Any "must-do's" at Boardwalk?

:woohoo: The Boardwalk, especially at night, is a must! We were there last year at Halloween and what a blast. They have all types of activities going on for adults and kids. And of course the majority are dressed in their "Trick or Treat" finest!
