Boards and App and Questions

Hi.

I still cannot get on my Dis App. I have deleted and reput back on but still no luck
Is anyone still having this problem.

Also, the boards look very different. Is it my computer or has it changed significantly.
I thought after the update, the App would work better but now can't get on at all.

Also, my tag is all messed up. Is that the same for all?

The boards were updated over the weekend, so yes they look different. Also, on the webcast, they said the app was no longer necessary and they were getting rid of it because the boards would now be optimized for mobile devices. Basically, use your web browser on your phone or tablet and the boards should work just the same as if you were on a computer.

It's optimized for phones, looks great on my iPhone but isn't great on my iPad. I can't see my Screenname/Inbox/Alert line because it's covered by the forum window... I only know it's there because of the red Alert pop up.

Flip your iPad into landscape mode and it looks fine...the problem is they see the iPad as a desktop browser and not a mobile browser. Hopefully they will set an iPad to use the layout of an iPhone so that universal bar doesn't take the next line

Responsive design does not care whether you are using a desktop, laptop, tablet, or phone. It does everything based on browser size.

That being said, I already posted on the tech board about this problem.

I've noticed some issues when replying to posts, as possibly illustrated by the double posts above. There appears to be an automatic save draft mode that could be messing with responses.

Thanks! I don't like the Landscape orientation for anything I do on my iPad and will just deal with it until it's fixed...

Responsive design does not care whether you are using a desktop, laptop, tablet, or phone. It does everything based on browser side.

That being said, I already posted on the tech board about this problem.

Thanks for reporting it. I hadn't because they seemed to think their design would be perfect for all mobile devices.

back on the internet. I almost started to post on the cruisecritic site and the other board asking about dis LOL

The old boards looked easier to navigate and more pleasing to the eye but who the heck am I to say since I gain so much information from this site. Can anyone please help me with my tags since they are not showing properly. They came from the tag fairy so I am very hesitant to try to go an fix it. I scared LOL

The Webmaster said there would be no colored tags after the changeover. You can go in and Edit out the color code. That's about all you can do.

I miss the app terribly. It was so clean and streamlined. This is a mini desktop look and I mean MINI!

I'm not the least bit overweight but it feels like my fingers are gigantic now!

I'm with you on this. I wear women's XS gloves, and I am having issues. I already complained in the tech board, but I get the feeling it's their way or the highway. I might be headed for the highway.

I also don't like how the reply window behaves. It doesn't act like a normal iPhone editor. The double post thing is bad.

Also, the website keeps locking up Chrome. I know it's Disboards, because the other 2 pages have never caused issues. I usually only have the same 2 pages open. The locking up started when I started going to Dis via the web.

You can also use your phone's browser settings to set the website as a shortcut, which creates an icon for it on your home screen, just like when you had the app.

In the mobile version, once something is typed, there is no way to go back and edit it, other than posting your reply with all the mistakes. Then you have to go back in and edit the errors. An unnecessary couple extra steps.

On the podcast Pete said no Tapatalk and his main reason was because he doesn't have control over the ads. But I call BS on that, it's that he only is using GoogleAds, where you can configure tapatalk to display ads from 3rd parties and still earn money from them. While it's true GoogleAdSense isn't one of the partners, the DIS could be signing up with VigLink or SkimLinks as well and still be earning their affiliate money. They just choose not to and thus are losing out on a lost revenue stream when Xenforo is supposed to be the end-all be-all solution.

What is funny is that ForumRunner also offered the ability to display ads using VigLink only, but they never took advantage of those ads too.

It would be nice if they at least tried Tapatalk for a month, turned on the google analytics for it just to see how much traffic comes from it.

Oh well, AD's I don't see anyways thanks to glimmerblocker, now if only I could find a sponsor button I wouldn't loose as much asleep over not seeing the ads
