If you have linked reservations with someone but have different boarding pass numbers, can you still board together on the lower number or do you have to wait for the higher number?

what if DD is in another room with a higher number/later pat? Could she still board with us? Do they make exceptions for little kids? I refuse to board without her.
When do you get your boarding #? I am asking because we have 3 families with linked reservations. we all have same terminal/port arrival time slots if that matters.

You will get your boarding number when you checkin at the port. Your PAT is tied to your boarding number. However, it's possible to receive different boarding numbers with the same PAT (although not far apart). With linked reservations, I'd hazard a guess that you'll have the same boarding number.

Great question. We have two linked reservations mine(husband son and myself) and moms (mom brother and my son). It would just be so much easier for all of us to stay together boarding. Especially with my young children and my disabled brother(he can get antsy).
If you all have the same PAT, then everyone should go to the same Disney employee to check in so you will all get the same boarding group. If you split up and go to different people to check in you might end up in different boarding groups. This just happened to us but we all just waited to board with the family members with the highest number. If you have different PAT's I have no idea how this would work. Luckily we all had the same PAT.

If you have the same PAT, even if you have different boarding numbers, the difference in time isn't likely to be more than 10-15 minutes. With how fast they call the numbers, how loud the terminal is, and the number of people trying to get on the ship, it may just be easier to wait for the higher number (and you may not even hear the lower number anyway! )
I know in the past we've managed to board on the lower of 2 numbers (4 vs 9, I think) but that was at the discretion of the employees at the boarding line - we specifically asked, and they specifically allowed it. This was before PATs, and we had checked in at the same time.
On our next cruise, we're cruising with them again, with the same PAT. If we get a different boarding number, we'll either board without them or wait for the highest number to board. We do have some things we want to get booked at GS, but as we're in the first PAT, I don't think they'll book up if we wait a few minutes.

This is not the way the boarding numbers work now. Your boarding number is preassigned based on your PAT. There are 7-8 boarding numbers for each PAT, so it is possible that if you have the same PAT two different rooms have been assigned different PATs.
Personally, I don't understand why if one party can't do the check in for all the rooms in their group if the reservations are linked and the booking window is the same. This would avoid the issue of getting different PATs -- unless of course one room is a higher CC level. Then you will just need to wait for the higher boarding number if you wish to board together, though many silver & first time cruisers reported being able to get 11-11:30 PATs when they logged in at midnight. If someone decides to wait to do this at a later time, then they will need to wait a little while to board in the terminal as well.
