What are your favorite board games for grown ups? My fiance and I are looking to cut back on entertainment expenses and looking for games that the two of us would have fun playing together this year! It is the year to save money for us! Thanks for any advice!

In the past few months we have been having game night more and more! We have like three or four other couples that we get together with, we have drinks and appetizers and have a GREAT time.

Everyone's favorite game is The Game of Things. Apples to Apples is also popular. I love Scattegories. For Christmas I bought Say Anything for one of my "game night" friends but she is on vacation so I haven't given it to her yet (so we haven't played it yet) but it looks like a lot of fun.
For Christmas my other friend bought me Loaded Questions which we played on Christmas Night and it was good too.

My two favorite board games are Taboo and Boggle. Taboo isn't much fun with just two people, though.

DH and I played a lot of Scrabble before we had kids. There aren't a lot of board games that are all that much fun for 2 people. Trivial Pursuit is ok with 2 people.

You could get some jigsaw puzzles-we like to do those every once in a while.

DH and I play Sequence together. It is more fun with others too but can be done.

DH and I played Yahtzee the other night - it was fun with just us two and we like Phase 10 (card game)

Othello, Backgammon and Scrabble were our favorites before we got married.
We liked video games too :)

I love playing scrabble. I know, I know, not everyone loves it but I just do. :goodvibes
ETA- I also love Pop the Pig but I play that with the kids. (-;

:rotfl: Some fairly new games that we really enjoy are: Quiddler, Set, and Bananagrams. These are all 3 fun for two people, and are available online or at Barnes an Noble.
Old standbys we still play are Cribbage, Rummy Cube,Canasta and Sequence

Scrabble, Scattegories,& Trivial Pursuit! We used to love Balderdash, but I forget what it is.

When DH and I were first married we played strip Monopoly a lot!;)

We also like Scrabble. For more players we've been playing Buzz Word, Apples to Apples and SmartAss.

Oh, and tonight we've been playing Blokus with the kids. You can play two player as well.

When it is just DH and I we usually play scrabble which I love. I just got a board that spins and folds up and stores everything for Christmas. We also sometimes play blokus. I got the 4 person version last year and we loved it, but this year he bought me the version for 2 players and we have had fun playing it this week. He also got me scrabble upwords and that was pretty good as well.

If it is more than just the two of you, our favorites are probably Sequence and Apples to Apples. We do a game night once a month with two of my sisters and their husbands so there is a total of 6 adults. We play a card game called fluxx fairly often as well (fun, but not my favorite). Others that we play are phase 10, taboo and outburst.

We play Monopoly, Sorry, and Life...usually the kids play with us now that they're old enough, but not always. We also like Rummy and Uno.

Not a game, but jigsaw puzzles are good too!

Dominos (Mexican Train), Sequence, Trivial Pursuit (fun on the Wii) are some that are fun with two people. Also, some of those "Would you rather..." type books are funny and lead to interesting conversations, too.

We're not a board game family here, Jen, but just wanted to stop, say hello and wish you a Happy New Year. Nice to see you. :wave2:

Dan

We really love Phase 10--good for 2 people or more. We often give it as a gift!
