Blue Sky Rumor: Ride coming to UK Pavilion?

I feel like I'm in the minority where I want rides in the countries. Doesn't have to be IP based to please me

Which is it?

They are not gonna develop any rides not based on IP moving forward...so you have to agree to take the baby and the bathwater.

When was the LAST time they built a ride not based on IP in Orlando?

I'll give you a hint: it was 2005

those festivals are part of Epcot's big problem...

They're using them as a shield as the park has rotten out from under them. Future world is embarassing...to be honest.

World Showcase is nothing to blog home about either. Except maybe live-blogging drinking around the world. Could you imagine anyone getting on Instagram or whatever and saying "... and they had the COOLEST movie about France!!!"

I'll defend Epcot to the wall: it's the greatest amusement park ever conceived and is a masterful design and build...breathtaking.

It should be revered, not exploited...even if the theme/focus has to change.

Not wine booths at all times and princess overlays. Tacky.

Tacky is a good way of saying "cynical".

It's like the only, and I mean THE ONLY data or impressions that Disney HQ are collecting and using to judge the success/attractiveness of Epcot are the alcohol receipts. Period. Festivals -> more liquor sales. Duh, obviously you're going to extend them as much as possible.

The hollowing out and decrepitude of the overall product are literally someone else's problems, to be worried about in 2, 5 or 10 years.

Hey, hey, HEYYYY!!!

Nothing wrong with the French movie (other than degraded film)

And I'd rather be a "cynic" than a "tackist". (Is that a word?)

As far as "someone else's problem"...there is no argument. That's why dry rot isn't even acknowledged anymore...

Like tomorrowland and frontierland in magic kingdom...in case no one has noticed...

I'm actually with you, but I'd want them to be immersively about the attached country, no IPs. Want random tourists to learn about a country? Plop them in a seat, call it a ride, and entertain them while they learn. A Maelstrom for every pavilion! Maybe a little more on the learning part, but the mythology is cool too.

It won't happen, but it would be my "solution" to World Showcase. I would allow IPs on the condition that they act as a host to the actual culture as long as it wasn't overdone (ha).

I know, I know. It won't happen.

While unrealistic in terms of it being something Disney would never implement, I think more people actually want to see this, but the problem is, Disney is teaching the culture without the backing of the country. Hence the reason why Maelstrom disappeared - Norway no longer cared.

I'd love to see Mulan attraction introducing us to China
I'd love to see Belle and Beast introducing us to France
I'd love to see Jasmine and Aladdin introduce us to Morocco.
Etc...

I feel Mexico does this slightly. There's a ride, featuring IP, that takes us through the different terrains, festival, and costumes of Mexico. It's movie looks as if it's from 1977... but we can't have it all. However, the concept is there and it's a great concept, imo.

I agree that rides with IPs that are at least culturally relevant would be alright. Liek Frnace coudl have Beauty and the Beast or Ratatouille, Germany coudl have Snow White, UK Mary Poppins or Peter Pan characters, China Mulan, Canada Brother Bear. This way they owuld at least tie in, and could maybe try to have the ride tiself have a bit of the culture or region related to it, like a rapids ride in Canada. But don't think that they all have to be fully educational experiences liek Mexico's boat ride. These "fun" attractions will help pull kids intot he pavilions more and around the other educational items like the displays and video there too.
I know most adults seem to love EPCOT/World Showcase, but I dont' think most children are as exstatic about it. They want to go to Disney for rides adn characters not more learning like in school. But if you giv ethem something to entice them then can get them to learn by proxy or prompt them to ask the cast members from teh different countries questions in relation to the movies and charcters adn how much their home is like the movies.

I find it interesting that Epcot is seeing some of the rumor love.
You have the Gondola project.
It certainly seems like at least one new attraction is coming to the world showcase. Uncertain what will happen in the front of the park, but it seems like management knows it needs some love. Other parks are getting upgrades.
There is only so much money, but it certainly seems like they are spending heaps of cash on WDW in the upcoming years. Hopefully that translates into substantial improvements at Epcot.
I really enjoy the world showcase, and I think a lot of older guests enjoy it. You let your kids have the magic Kingdom, DHS. Animal kingdom is more all ages in my opinion. The younger crowd gets the front of epcot while the grown ups get the back.
While you need to renovate and replace/update the front, the world showcase is OK as is relatively speaking. If money is lumped into an epcot budget, it's hard to see the need to spend on the world showcase part. However, I think it's well received. If I had to guess, I'd bet food and beverage revenue per guest is far higher there, than any other park. I would suspect retail is pretty good as well. So I think that might drive some investment there.

But then you have Spirit (WDW1974) saying not to get your hopes up about Epcot. The whole Epcot think is really wait and see at the moment. So much can and will happen within the Disney company.

To be fair, while he's usually right, Spirit is alsi very much doom and gloom when it comes to WDW. I appreciate his posts and insights, but they always tend to have a negative slant.

You're not in the minority of all Epcot goers. You're in the overwhelming majority. The success of FEA proves that.

The truth is Epcot won't be able to stay the way it is. It's already changing and WS needs to change too. Especially now with how great Disney Springs has become, having just a few gift shops and restaurants under a pretty facade of a country is not nearly enough. How many times can you look at the pickle tree lol?

Don't get me wrong, there are parts of WS that I absolutely love (Mexico pavilion, FEA, Spice Road Table (IMO the best restaurant in all of WDW!), L'Artisans des Glaces (the best ice cream in all of WDW!), Impressions de France, AA), but given the massive size of WS, there really isn't much there. If it wasn't for the near constant festivals, a lot of people wouldn't think it would be worth the 1.25 mile hike in almost constant full sun to do the loop.

I think every pavilion needs a ride and I think Disney agrees. Expect more FEA's....eventually.

Disney has no IP that is "culturally relevant"...

It is all laced with cultural stereotypes and caricatures...

People make fun of how tacky the countries are...

Does Aladdin seem like a rich cultural depiction to anyone? Genies, sword tossers and parading elephants?

Mary poppins and Alice is the "spirit of britannia?"

Come on

Did you forget about that Poppins sequel next year?

What does that have to do with "cultural relevance" to the world showcase countries?
If it's incredibly popular I could totally see that become the IP for the pavilion. Alice is still popular especially with the asian markets.

I don't see how it isn't a success.

Have you been on it? It's a clunky AA boat ride.

See this is the problem...the crowds Too large for an attraction list that is too small...where else would you expect them to go?

Especially in Epcot.

That's a disgustingly low bar for Disney..."the line is long due to lack of options so we DONE good!!"
