Can someone who has done this please provide some info.

1. Once finished with the Dolphin encounter are you free to spend the rest of your day on the beach at Blue Lagoon?

2. If you are free to use the beach the rest of your stay, what fun things are there to do?

3. Is there a good place to get lunch?

4. Do you need to swim for the encounter?

5. Are there multiple boats returning to the ship? And, what times do the boats return to ship?

6. Plus, any other comments you can provide about this excursion. It sounds great!

Thanks in advance1

We didn't do the Blue Lagoon dolphin encounter, but we were on the same boat as people doing the dolphin swim since we went the Blue Lagoon for a beach day. We went in Dec last year and we practically had the beach to ourselves! It was gorgeous and I had the opportunity to do something I've always wanted to do...gaze out on a beautiful tropical setting from a hammock! The beaches have them everywhere. The people who rode out to the island with us also rode back and we did see them on the beach, but I don't know how much time they had to spend there. When we were at the beach there really wasn't anything to do but swim. I noticed some aqua trikes and things like that to rent, but nothing too exciting. The food, which was included in our excursion was pretty awful. It was, if I remember correctly, it was some kind of barbecued something or other. I really didn't eat any of it, but my husband and kids liked it well enough. I don't remember there being anywhere else to eat but the one restaurant and I think they really only had the one menu item to choose from.
The only other memorable thing that we found was an abundance of hermit crabs...very cute. Blue Lagoon is a really beautiful place, but not if you're looking for big excitement. If it turns out you only have an hour or so to spend there after your dolphin swim, that would probably be plenty....
unless you wanted to snooze in a hammock on the beach, that is!

Yes, you are free to spend the rest of the day at the beach.

I'm not sure about fun things to do....we just relaxed in the hammocks!

Lunch is included in the encounter (at least it was when we went) it was standard hamburgers and stuff. It was OK. I don't think there was any other place to eat there though.

There were several boats returning. I believe they told us when we met before leaving for the excursions what time they were. Something like 1, 3 and 5?

You don't need to swim. Basically you stand on this platform and the dolphin comes to you and does his things. For us, we were on our honeymoon so he kissed me and spit water at DH. It was cute and funny.

Just keep in mind that this is different than a dolphin swim. That's why it's called dolphin encounter, it's just that, an encounter. You interact with the dolphin and don't swim with him. I know a lot of people expected swimming and were disappointed. I thought it was fun. Would I do it again, because of how costly it was--no. The experience was worth it to say I've done it though. It was fun and you only go on your honeymoon once!!

We booked a dolphin swim directly with dolphin encounters in Nassau. Cost was more than the encounter,as you get to get in the water with the dolphins. You also interact more with them. You don't really have to know how to swim -you must wear a life jacket, but you can't be afraid of the water as it's about 25 feet deep. My husband and five year old daughter did the encounter while the rest of the family did the swim. We had a blast! I plan on going again when we sail in February. The cost of the swim is quite pricey though. Enjoy your trip.

We did the Dolphin Encounter in September, and honestly, it was less than expected. Granted, we were on one of the altered cruises due to the hurricane (the Charleston visit), and some things got shifted around in Nassau. We were late getting out from the dock to Blue Lagoon because we were in Nassua on Wednesday instead of Monday (and apparently that didn't get back to the ferry operators). Then, the ship was leaving Nassau a bit early, so we had to be back to the ship by, I believe, 2:30pm. By the time we got to Blue Lagoon Island, it was after 11. The encounter seemed quite hurried, because everyone had to be back on the ferry at 2. You are free to enjoy the beach after the encounter, and it appeared to be a decent place - we just didn't get to spend any time there. By the time we were done with the encounter, and I waited on the video, it was time to get back on the ferry. My wife and daughter did walk along the beach for about 10 minutes. The lunch was, well, let's just say we were hungry when we got back to the ship!

Glad we done the encounter, yes - my daughter really enjoyed being that close to a dolphin. Would we do it again, no, not at that price. My advice would be to check about return ferry times to ensure that you'll have some time left to enjoy the beach.
