If you have a blue DVC card for direct buy from Disney, at what point do you need to let your server know you are a DVC member to ensure you get the dining discount for participating restaurants? Do you let them know at the time you place your order or can you wait until you get the check and they will make an adjustment then?

We tell them when they take the order.

Thanks Bill....do you take the actual card with you or do you use the electronic version online....when using the magic band I'd hate to have to carry the card, mostly because its more likely we will lose it.

Hi,

We tell them when they ask if we are on the dining plan. We tell them no and we have the DVC discount. When we ask for the bill, they take the card then and apply the discount. We have never tried the digital version, so I can't answer that one.

At most Table Service restaurants, the server needs to take the card and photo id to a manager who will then apply the discount to the check.

We generally tell them when they ask if there is anything else that we want.

At that point we pull out whichever discount card we will be using along with our photo ID.

Thanks Mary...I like that approach. Thanks for the reminder that we will need to carry our ID as well.

In my experience, the server starts off "Hi, my name is... Are you on the dining plan?" When you say no, they'll then ask if you're a DVC member, an Annual Pass holder, or have a Disney Visa. They note that on the check for later. After the meal, you'll be asked to show the blue card, scan your band (to prove AP status), or pay with the Disney Visa. Before the differentiation between white and blue card DVC discount, many servers would just scan your band to see if you are staying at a DVC resort and then automatically give you the discount.

I try and take the card. I've had more than one occasion where the cast member has never seen the e-card. And on a small $5 purchase they had no idea how to give me the discount. I didn't worry about it then, but opted to just carry the card until the e-card has been out there a little longer.

They're supposed to see your AP card & photo ID for AP discounts, too. I know some will accept the MB scan, but to my knowledge they're not supposed to.

Hi. What do you mean Blue Card?
I have my old one with the mountains and new one with a Mickey globe head. I am taking both with me but not sure why lol

Ive always just used my DVC card to get discounts. I am grandfathered in from years ago when they started cracking down on resale.

Thanks.

DW was accused of fraud once for presenting the digital printout, so we'll never try that again. (I'm talking about you, Mr. manager "Nick from West Covina, CA")

Yes the globe head card, which is blue. :) You can carry the other for nostalgia, but it's not valid for anything other than a souvenir.

Thank you. I will take it out of my travel wallet. I rather not take if I don't need it.
Thanks again!

My experiences today:
I told the server I was not activating my AP until tomorrow. She gave me the discount anyway.

At dinner I presented the DVC card and the reservation was in my name. My DH paid the bill with his band. It caused some confusion since we have different last names. But it was okay.
