Blue Bayou....????

My wife and I just got back from a wonderful trip to DL. The first night we were there we ate at the Blue Bayou. I was just wondering what others who have been thought of the food.

I haven't had great experiences with the food there (not bad, just not great), EXCEPT I would kill for the Monte Cristo sandwich (that, and the ambiance, are the only reasons we ever go there).

I like going every once in a while with a group of people. I went last in early March, and did notice that they made some changes. I miss the wedge salad I think the food is okay, but I always go for lunch because it's cheaper and pretty much the same portion as dinner.

the food isnt that good sure i loved the MC but anything else. its overcharged an my son doesn't even like there new kids meals they.. the whole park needs to get off this only healthy kick. Some of us want to eat other stuff to. but thats just me.

I had the steak and thought it was very nice.

I also had the creme brulee dessert - gorgeous dessert and having the three different flavours was really nice

I will almost certainly be going back when I visit in December.

Even the Monte Cristo has gone downhill. I used to love it, and would order it as take out. Learned that tip here, even though a few times Ihad to insist to the hostess that it could be done. Now I actually order something else. I don't know what they did to it, but it's just not the same.

Blue Bayou is not a restaurant to go to for the food. You are going for the ambiance and the uniqueness of it. I only go now if we are visiting with folks who have never been there before.

I agree with this. We only go with groups of our friends, and it is a nice treat- especially on hot summer days!

I've only had the Monte Cristo once, and it's not something I'll ever order again. Bleck.

We went last year for the first time and honesty didn't care for the food. For the price I thought it was just ok, nothing special. The ambience is great and we loved that aspect of it, but we preffered walking across the way and eating at New Orleans Cafe instead.

To be honest, the cookie boat that my son ordered and the salads/rolls that came with our meals as the appetizers were the best part.

DH got the Surf & Turf, and I ordered the Tesora Island chicken. We both thought it was just "okay".

We were happier with our meals from Tony Romas, on Harbor Blvd. The food was better, cheaper, and we left there way more satisfied at half the price of Blue Bayou (literally!).

I love the Blue Bayou! The ambiance and location are fantastic! It is a wonderful treat to go to BB....however, I think it is way overpriced and a really bad value for the money.

We love to go and just order dessert. The Flying Dutchman is delicious.

That way you experience the restaurant but don't waste your money on mediocre overpriced food.

Although I love the Monte Cristo, I would much prefer to go to Cafe Orleans to order that...it is the exactly the same and is cheaper.

P.S. We loved Ralph Brennen's Jazz Kitchen for a special dinner. It is yummy!

I used to like it food and all, but the food has gone hill big time. The last time we went my mushrooms were burnt to a crisp, so bad I sent them back. I do prefer the new salad (sorry I know I am in the minority but a hunk of iceberg lettuce just never impressed me), but I really miss the old salad of mixed greens, tomatos and candied nuts, that was a good salad!!! Personally I would only go for dessert since the cookie boat is GREAT!!!!! Good atmosphere mediocre food.

I agree Jazz Kitchen is great for a special dinner with way better food and at night you can sit on the balcony and watch the fireworks!

For regular park eating I prefer WCT hands down!

Hmmmm... I'm sensing a trend here!

Us, too. Been there twice. First time, for dinner, the food ranged from "eh" to "pretty good." Service, while very pleasant and polite, was rushed. The second time, for lunch, was very good. My Tesoro Island chicken was good, not fabulous; but DD's ribs were delicious! The rolls, gumbo, salad, and cookie boat were also wonderful. Service was excellent, but that's partly because we were there for the first lunch seating at 11:30 a.m. (and got a great waterside seat!).

I'd go again in a heartbeat, but not because I'm expecting amazing food! Of course, there's places I love that have no ambiance whatsoever, but the food rocks. Like a dingy little strip mall teriyaki place that has the best Chinese food EVAR.

I haven't been to the BB, but have wanted to try it once. When you make PS for BB, can you just tell them dessert only or wait until your seated?

If you're going for dessert don't tell them until you're ready to order. The servers should not care but the hostess sometimes gives you grief.

We are in the minority. We LOVE the BB!!!!!! We've been happy with our food, our servers and our seats every time. The only time we've had issues is when we insist to the hostess that we want to wait for waterside seating, for some reason that bothers them. lol

I'm in the minority here, other than my bad experience in 2007 that was solely because of someone on the ride using flash directly in my face on waterside seating I have nothing bad to say about BB. I never liked the wedge salad, and am so glad that they changed it. Our meal there just over a week ago was probably the best thing I have eaten in a very long time (we split the Surf & Turf and it was still more than enough food for us both). I'm not a fan of lobster, but even I had to admit it was tasty and the steak was melt-in-your-mouth goodness!! The service was excellent, we got a water side table in barely more than 5 minutes and our server was awesome.

I love BB and will never skip it on a DLR trip to save my life.

Oh, and I have never had desert there, so no comment on that. I can't have ice cream and whatnot, so I skip desert anywhere we go.

I am shocked by this as I find it's the opposite for us kiwis. We love America, Americans and Disneyland but find the worst part of the trip is always the food. Everything is so processed and the whole familly starts to feel a bit ill and sluggish after a day or two. When you choose the so-called healthy option and order a salad even the nuts are processed, heated to destroy any nutrients and coated in sugar. SUGAR!.

Thankfully, its so much better now with the fruit that is available in the park and we bring our own trail mix and scroggin.

Sorry for the rant. I hope I didn't offend anyone.

Back on topic - We went to the Blue Bayou for dinner during our last trip for the experience even though I had read the the food was bad. The food was really dreadful, so bad in fact that neither DH, DD or myself could eat more than a few mouthfuls. We didn't mind though. We were just so happy and grateful to be there because it does take alot to travel so far (and many years of saving).
Despite the awful food I really do think it is worth going because it is all part of the whole Disneyland (and POTC) experience.

I've never liked that wedge salad either..a hunk of iceberg with some chewy sausage stuff?? ugh. I do love the gumbo though, and the ribs were great, but we don't plan on going again, since the price just doesn't make it worthwhile. The last two times we went we were nowhere near the water and the tables were so close and it was so crowded there was barely any ambience.
