Blue Bayou....????

For all of you lucky soles who have eaten there recently, have they brought back the fireflies in the trees? When we were there last in Dec.06 there were very few. I remember as a child that there were many more up in the trees and it was just so magical. pixiedust:

The Monte Cristo is only available for lunch any more at BB... but it's available at Cafe Orleans all day. Yum.

The fireflies are in the bayou again. :goodvibes

We just ate there for lunch last week. I have to say that it was very disappointing. We got a great table right next to the water but it took half the meal for our eyes to adjust to the darkness enough to see each other, let alone the boats going by. So the ambiance factor didn't kick in until then. And the food was barely edible for the most part. I enjoyed my salad and DH said the jambalaya was pretty good. But I've had better crab cakes out of my grocer's freezer. For the exorbitant fee they are charging I would expect better. In fact, this was true of all the food we ate at Disneyland. I expect to pay Disney prices, but from eating at WDW I also have come to expect some quality. The best meal we had was at the Taste Pilot counter service in CA, and that's not saying much.
Well, there is a general consensus here that if there's one thing DL lags behind WDW, it's dining.

The rib dish was yummy.
The rest..was not worth it.

To be quite honest..the smell of the water gave me a headache.:guilty:

I went there for the first time last Oct with my dd12. We didn't ask for waterside as it was so busy but were lucky enough to get it. We both ordered the Monte Cristo. The amount of food was way too much. We each ate 1/2 the sandwich. The MC was interesting and enjoyable. Next time we will only order one. We will be booking again when we go this October, if only for the atmosphere. The only complaint I had was the flash photography. We must have been flashed a dozen times during our meal.

I agree with this. We only go with groups of our friends, and it is a nice treat- especially on hot summer days!

I've only had the Monte Cristo once, and it's not something I'll ever order again. Bleck.

I agree! I could not eat it and I will never order it again too!

I ordered it at a restaurant in my town to try and didn't like theirs. However, it wasn't Disney's MC.

I would not compare the MC at CO/BB with others. There are many variations of the Monte Cristo, some of which merely slather ham and swiss between french toast. At DL, they will coat the entire sandwich with batter, and deep fry it.

I agree. DH got a french toast version and didn't think it was that great but he loves the ones at BB/CO. For anyone who's interested in traveling east of DLR, there is a very good MC at the Mission Inn in Riverside. It's different than the one at DL but very good and they dip the whole thing in batter too. A local food critic did a review of it awhile back and said it was as good as the one at the BB so we went to check it out. It's richer than the one at DLR and is more puffy.

We ate there once a few years ago. It was okay. We all had the steak. Wasn't the most wonderful meal we've ever had. Even though we did get a water table, it was right next to the kitchen, which kinda dampered the atmosphere, and the service wasn't the greatest. But over all the atmosphere is really neat, and if it's not something someone has done, I'd recommend it once.

We plan to eat there hopefully in Sept as we have never done so.

I am very surprised when non-Americans talk about having bad food when in the US on holidays. We are from Australia and have been to the US 4 times and absolutely love the food. In fact I usually drop 5 - 10kilograms before each trip in preparation for the food.:goodvibes

You have so much variety in the US that it is just amazing. I would kill just to have access to a Dennys !! Now that is saying something. We even love Dennys. If you want a cheap meal you have 10 or 15 fast food options, in Australia have 4. And we have found even the park food to be of much higher standard than in any vacation area in Australia.

Oh, and we like our fine food as well and have not been disappointed everywhere from San Francisco to New York, you really have it all.

I am ready to move !! :thumbsup2

I took my son to eat a Blue Bayou this past Tuesday. We were there celebrating his 9th birthday, and he wanted to eat in the POTC ride. Because we could only get reservations at 7:30pm, we opted to just do dessert (specifically the cookie boat). We didn't request a waterside table, and still waited about 30 minutes to be seated, which was no big deal. However, when we told the waiter that we were just going to be ordering dessert, he was clearly not pleased. After he took the order, we never saw him again, until he brought us the bill, which he basically just threw down on the table, without a word. Because I had already read the reviews, I knew that there was a possibility that we would get crappy service if we only ordered dessert, so I wasn't too terribly surprised. It's unfortunate that the waitstaff think they are allowed to treat paying customers differently, depending on whether or not they will be spending $100 (or more) on dinner, but....

However, on the bright side, my DS loved the cookie boat:yay:

You have asked for the manager, there was no reason for him to treat you that way. Especially celebrating your DS bday!!

I agree that the manager should have been involved. Know your rights and what is supposed to happen and if need be ask for the lead. That is part of being a waiter to get customers who split plates and who eat little or nothing. I am so sorry that happened but the kid was happy and that is all that matters.

I am with both ladies who previously said you should have gotten management. Until they know, and it is made clear to the CM's, that we as paying customers will NOT tolerate being treated poorly because we order dessert, they will continue to be allowed to get away with it. That didn't come out quite right...but let a manager know so that CM learns it isn't cool to be rude. No matter how much or how little their table's tab ends up being :)

OK I'm :lmao: at myself....apparently I cannot type today....what is wrong with me? :lmao: That should say

You should have asked for the manager........:confused3:rotfl:

If I had been anywhere else, I would have immediately asked for a manager, and complained. However, we were having a good day, and I wasn't about to let a cranky waiter spoil it. My DS thought it was so cool that he was eating inside the POTC ride, that he didn't pay any attention to the lack of service. For me to call attention to it by complaining to a manager would have irritated me and upset him, which just wasn't worth it to me. So, I just completely ignored it, and concentrated on enjoying the moment with DS.

Again, the cookie boat was worth every penny, and DS had a great time, but I don't think I would ever go back.
