Blue Bayou...worth the cost?

If money is an object, you can always take leftovers back to your room, or you can do a split plate. For a fee (I believe a steep $12) they will give you each a soup or salad and divide your entree nicely for you. My mom and I--neither of us particularly light eaters--did that in November and had plenty of food, without feeling completely stuffed. The cost savings wasn't THAT much, but it was a savings. We wouldn't have been able to eat two entrees between the both of us, and we weren't going back to the room so we couldn't store our leftovers.

You can also just order one entree and ask for an extra plate if you want to split it yourself...but in a place that nice, we enjoyed each getting our own pretty plate. :)

Congratulations and have a great trip and meal!

I didn't feel rushed when we were there either. It is the one restaurant I will for sure do, every time we go. Can't wait to go again!

Eating at the Blue Bayou is a long-standing tradition in our family. Growing up we would almost never eat in the parks in preparation for the BB meal. It's just beautifully atmospheric, and cosy, and it really feels like you're on the bayou.

A note about my last trip to the BB. There was a certain 9 year old member of our group who, upon receiving her menu, ordered the first thing with shrimp in it. It turned out to be the $30+ jambalaya, and when it arrived, she wouldn't touch it. She was expecting a plate full of popcorn shrimp and french fries; not a spicy bowl of shrimp and rice. She didn't even want to doggy bag it (I called dibs!) and her parents were more than a little annoyed.

Point is if you're bringing kids, explain to them beforehand that the Blue Bayou is a very special restaurant with food they might not like because it's unfamiliar. If the kids want chicken nuggets and french fries, just order them the cheapest thing on the menu to tide them over (I think it's mac & cheese) and promise to take them to the nearest McDonalds on the way back to the hotel.

We love Blue Bayou!!! You will need to make reservations! I cant tell you how many times we have been sitting in the lobby waiting to be seated and a family comes up wanting to eat there and they are completly booked. Arrive 15 mins before your reservation and ask for water front seating. They will tell you it will be an extra 30 mins but it never is, and so worth it!

I have had the crab cakes, chicken and gumbo and everything has been wonderful. To try and offset the cost, we dont eat lunch the day that we are going to Blue Bayou for dinner!
