Is the cookie boat back at the Blue Bayou?

How mad does the wait staff get when you only order dessert?

How yummy is the cookie boat?

Pics?

I think it's best you not get your hopes up about the cookie boat. It's been off the menu for months now, with no word of when it will be back, if ever :( There was a problem with getting the sails from the company that made them. If the cookie boat returned, I'm almost certain it would have been big news on here! In the boat's absence, I honestly don't think it would be worth it to go for just dessert, since the other big ticket dessert item, the creme brulee trio, was also removed from the menu.

ETA: Here's a link talking about it: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2336194&highlight=cookie+boat

A server there told us that if any server were to get grumpy based on what you order, to call a manager over immediately.

Also, you'd think a server would be *happy* to get a table that's just having dessert, as they will likely leave much quicker than a meal-ordering table, and therefore they'd get another group seated quicker than expected!

That said, I don't really know that there's anything especially interesting. But if you don't want to order any of the meals, it would be a nice way to get inside the restaurant for the ambiance.

The Flying Dutchman cookie boat was on the AllearsNet Blue Bayou menu, which was updated November 2009. If you want to be sure it would probably be best to call Disney Dining and ask the restaurant immediately.

I agree with Molly/Bumbershoot, if any waiter shows any signs of having a mood, I'd talk to management. You have just as much right as anyone else to order whatever you'd like whether it be dinner or dessert.

I've never had the cookie boat but it sounds fab!

We ate there on December 7, 2009 and it was not on the menu. They had creme brulee and the chocolate celebration cake that is also at the French Market (for $3 more!).

If you're going just for dessert, aren't you going for the ambiance? In which case, any dessert is fine - I'm there to enjoy the unique environment.

Now if you are going specifically for the cookie boat, sure, no point in going. But if you are going just for dessert, aren't you really going to enjoy the Blue Bayou?

IF the famous cookie boat (Flying Dutchman) should return to the Blue Bayou at some point, it is no problem to go there and just order that and some coffee drinks or whatever. At least it wasn't a problem in 2008. We did that in 10/08, and the server was very friendly and didn't bat an eyelash about it. In fact, I ordered the cookie boat and my friend ordered the chocolate cake...which she decided she did not like and, therefore, did not eat (rather than just sending it back and ordering the cookie boat for herself).

I am a big ice cream fan, but that dessert was too much for me. Too much 'sweet.' Too much cookie, too much boat, too much of everything. Overkill on the dessert. We really only wanted to go in and enjoy the atmosphere, but it was tremendously busy and we waited over 45 minutes (even though we had a PS) to be seated at a table way in the back....which is just too long to wait for a boat!!:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I'm so disappointed to hear that the boat is not being served. I really want to eat here, but DS12 will not eat anything on the menu so I was going to let him eat the boat. I guess he'll be having the cake instead.

The Flying Dutchman Cookie Boat hasn't been on the menu since last September. I hope they bring it back. :goodvibes

I called Disney Dining 1/18/10 and made a reservation and asked specifically if they had the Flying Dutchman and he said it was listed on the menu. I also asked if there was any problems coming in for only dessert, and was told no problem.

Guess I will ask when we get there a few hours before we have our reservations. We were there in July and I was not impressed with the food, and the MonteCristo that hubby loves is cheaper at OC, not to mention I love the banana bread pudding there and the Pommes Frites.

Our seats were near the opening of the kitchen and it smelled horrible so that may have been the reason I did not enjoy the food.

When we were there 2 weeks ago it was not on the menu...the Creme brulee is on the menu, however it's one large vanilla rather than the 3 small assorted flavor as before. I prefered the larger vanilla one..here's a pic of it...yummmmo!!
They have also removed the appetizers from the menu, so your only option is to order an entree, split an entree, desert, or both. My crab cakes were not as good as before, but hubby's 5 pepper roast strip loin was amazing!! and don't forget... as many free refills on the mint julep as you want....I had about 6!! LOL....don't know why I forgot to take pics of our actual dinners! got too excited I guess!! lol...

Thanks for this info. I think I will cancel my reservation and then when we are there we can take our chances to get a table as a walk in and ask if they have the Flying Dutchman if not then go over to OC which happens to be my fav, inside of Disneyland.

The Brulee looks wonderful, however I am not a big fan of Brulee:(

Forgive my ignorance, but what is a Mint Julep? I've read about them but what is it that makes this drink so popular? I may have to give one a whirl after hearing so much about them.

I thought the same thing, then I tried it, the first couple sips were good and it tasted like scope, then it got worse by the sip, and I could not finish it, to repeat, to me it tasted like I was drinking scope.

Many people say that a Mint Julep tastes like Scope®, so I was hesitant to try one. But I bought one at the Mint Julep Bar (located at the train station side of the French Market), and I thought it was pleasant enough. Because of the Scope comments, I expected it to be dark and heavy, but I found it to be light and sweet, like a "mint-aid" drink. To me it seemed like a mint-version of lemonade. I say, give one a whirl! :thumbsup2

You mean CO right? Cafe Orleans? I keep getting confused because the OC is Orange County...... :) You may have to wait for a table at CO as well, they take reservations there as well. A few times we've opted not to wait because the estimated wait time was over an hour.....

This was my experience too, I thought it was horrible and tasted like Scope. Of course others love them so my advice is to try it yourself and then decide. :)

Personally I've never gotten the "scope" comparison either.... nothing like it in fact. The closest I've come to it is the mint green tea lemonade at starbucks in summer. It's very lightly mint, but is better if you smoosh the mint leaves that actually come in it, around with the straw making it more minty. If I could get the stuff for home, I'd be drinking it all the time!

Hmm i'll have to try one of those on my next trip. I walked past the sign at FM every day for a week but never tried it lol

Oh that's sad that the boat cake is no longer available, we had it about 3 years ago, and also the treasure chest dessert, so I'm assuming that one has gone as well? :confused3

This is the treasure chest dessert:

By the way, we had no problems with the server, and we only had dessert, he was really friendly and even put the sails in a bag for us. :thumbsup2
