My dd really wants to have an Aurora dress when she does BBB. She prefers the blue dress (chalk one up for Merryweather! :rotfl2: ) I have someone who can make us a custom dress for about what I'd pay for one from the Disney Store. My concern is this - would anyone recognize her as Aurora? or would everyone think that she has a weird Cinderella dress? I don't want her to be upset that everyone keeps calling her the wrong princess all day :rolleyes2

I would....I've always been partial to the blue dress too!

Also, when ever my daughter has dressed up, no CM has ever called her "Cinderella" or "Belle". They just address her as "Princess". I always thought that was nice.....they treated her like her very own important person.

I too prefer Aurora in blue. C's dress is silvery white!

I think A's dress is easy to tell whether it's blue or pink.

Back when DD14 was just 4 we went to Disneyland to visit with all the princesses. The DL Sleeping Beauty wore the blue dress at that time. It was gorgeous! I have old pictures to prove it. If your DD wants the blue dress, go for it!

Everyone will just address her as "Princess" and not use a name. If she garners extra attention it will be because the dress will be custom and so much nicer than commercially available princess dresses.

I've only heard CM's address little girls as Princess. I don't think they want to risk calling a little girl the wrong name if their costume isn't clear or have that very literal toddler say "my name's not Ariel, it's Samantha".

Thanks for the replies everyone. I wasn't really concerned with CM's but with comments from other guests. Unfortunately, I've overheard some rude comments while sitting around Disney World about homemade dresses, but I've also heard some really nice ones.

Our seamstress can make her own pattern, but we found one my daughter loves on Etsy. She says it's not too simple, but not super fancy which she really likes. My daughter also has autism and LOVES that she can have a dress that is not scratchy! :cheer2: She is so excited that she is (probably) going to be the only one she sees with a blue Aurora dress that she now wants to wear it to all her princess events. Since we have BBB, Akershus, and 1900 Park Fare booked I guess mommy will be doing laundry while there.

I can't wait to see my little princess when the dress is done. I'm as excited as she is!princess:

People are so strange. I am AMAZED at people that are able to make homemade dresses. I've seen some gorgeous stuff people have made for their children......I would love to have that kind of talent.

My DD is also super-sensitive about her clothes. Any monogrammed emblems on her shirts always had to be lined so she couldn't feel them and all tags get cut out ASAP. The store bought dresses can definitely be very scratchy so its great that you are able to find a good option for your daughter.

I've always prefered a well-made one-of-kind dress to a commercial dress that half of the other kids can have, mainly because I sew and I almost never buy anything that I can make myself.

I'm so jealous. Then only thing I can make is a pillowcase!:rotfl2:
I love custom dresses be not being able to sew the issue of affording them has always sent us back to the store. My dd did wear a Disney dress 3 years ago but only the night she did BBB which we do in the evening to avoid crowds. I think she will wear this one much more since it will be more comfortable.

DisneyMomma - thanks. I did see that one and strongly considered it. Here is the one my dd likes. http://www.etsy.com/listing/8620529...type=gallery&ga_ship_to=US&ga_search_type=all
We won't know for sure what we are going with until I meet with the seamstress. I have known her for years as she has always altered dance costumes for many at the dance studio I work at and she is wonderful!

I think she would get extra attention from Aurora who may have a little chat about the fairys arguing over the colour of her dress. TBH I'm not sure why pink is the standard colour of her dress, it is blue for more of the movie :)
On a side note who I wish you could get the Ariel dress that she actually wears in the movie (the pink ball gown) instead of the aqua thing Disney have.

I have always been partial to the blue dress on Aurora as well. Would be thrilled to see a little princess walking around in it :thumbsup2

I always rooted for Merryweather to win the dress war too. :rotfl:

I think Aurora got the pink one because blue color was already taken by Cinderella... Disney wants different colors for different princesses, it seems. Isn't this why Tiana is wearing the green dress, though in the movie she probably seen in it for less than a minutes?
I do too like blue dress for Aurora. Go Merryweather!:cheer2:

Your Sleeping Beauty dress pattern is soooo cute! I especially like the ruffle. What fabric are you going to use? At Disneyland Sleeping Beauty's blue dress was made out of royal blue velvet and slightly lighter blue brocade (like a Williamsburg blue but not baby blue. Her dress was overall much darker than Cinderella's). With the distictive Sleeping Beauty collar and crown, I don't think anyone will be confused about which princess she is. Have fun!

ETA: have you seen this thread from WDW in 2000...pictures of SB in her blue dress!

I think a blue Aurora dress would be great!! I sew so my daughter has worn all the usual princess dresses and now we have moved into the lesser known princess dresses. She has worn the pink Cinderella dress (the ones the mice make), the blue Ariel dress (the one she wears in the scene where Ariel and Eric are in the boat with "kiss the girl" playing), Belle's Christmas dress, and an Anastasia dress (Cinderella's stepsister). Some people got the dresses and some people didn't get it at all. Most CMs did get it and made a big deal out of her no so common dresses. We met the Fairy Godmother while my daughter was wearing the Ariel dress and she called her Belle, which irritated my daughter a bit. Cinderella, Ariel, Belle, and especially Anastasia (and Drizella) made a big deal out of her wearing these dresses when we met them. Many, many other guests did not get these dresses, though no one said anything rude or out of place. I just explained to my daughter that not everyone is as familiar with Disney movies as we are and they may not recognize the dresses.
