BLT2 may be on the way!

According to the Castmember at check-in this past Friday, there is serious discussion to tear down the southern wing outside the Contemporary tower and put up another DVC BLT clone. The demand is that great for DVC in that area!

If DVD goes forward with building a BLT-type tower where the southern garden rooms currently sit, it will be interesting to see if it becomes part of the BLT Condo Association or if it becomes its own CA. If its the former, than BLT-2 will have to be blended into the BLT point chart. Assuming BLT-2 doesn't have any Theme Park Views and more Standard View villas than BLT-1, it will result in a noticeable reallocation of the point charges at BLT.

With BLT, GF, Poly and BLT-2 that sure sounds like it should be easier to book a monorail resort at the 7 month mark. Sounds good to me.

If another tower is built, I would think at least some percentage of it (if not all) would be designed as hotel rooms. Otherwise, there wouldn't be that much left of the hotel arm of the CR.

It's been a while since there's been any expansion in their deluxe hotel room inventory. It will be interesting to see if Disney expands its recent trend toward "family suites" at the value resorts to their deluxe resorts. Or perhaps deluxe resort + family suites is too close to the DVC villas for comfort. I guess the only differences would be the full kitchen and the washer/dryer.

Is there real demand for the garden wings or do guests just 'settle' for it because they couldn't get in the tower? The symmetry might be nice with a second BLT on the other side. Of course they could make it all DVC since non members could still pay cash. Or remodel CR to be DVC ;-)

Garden Wing is nice for a monorail resort on a budget.

If they do this I think they will have to make a separate condo assoc due to the views issue. Otherwise you'd have alot of current BLT owners bitter when they cannot get their TP views anymore.

Best option may be a mixed use that gets Disney the same inventory on the lower floors as the current Garden Wing (perhaps add in some business focused accommodations for conference guests) and have the upper floors be a new BLT-2 DVC association.

Wow, that is surprising. I always thought they needed the Garden Wing inventory because of the Convention Center at CR.

I highly doubt it. Never pay attention to the CMs who "heard a rumor"... There are several members on another DVC group that pay constant attention to the orange and osceola county building departments. They post constant update that range from everything from what will be repaired (i.e. permits for roofs, electrical so on) to land studies to actual building permits.

Lastly, BLT is my home but the building is so large it just looms over the CR Tower. A second building and the CR Tower will be lost.

Mind you, I suspect it is only a matter of time before there is another tower replacing the South Wing, but this is about as informative as a rumor from a bus driver or the guy selling light-up toys at the Fantasmic theater.

It might be easier to book a villa at 7 months, but with all of those extra guests, it won't be very easy to get a monorail when you are there!

As I said... just passing along what I heard. Never suggested that it was fact or that the cast member was an authority.... just that it was an interesting point for discussion.

Somewhere in one of my Imagineering books, there's a picture of a resort design that was considered early on at WDW that's very close to this. I'll have to see if I can find the picture.
