Just logged into DVCmember to check availability for a trip later this year and noticed that BLT is having work done. I've had a reservation there for July since last August and never received any notification about this. What exactly is happening? I've got a toddler who is going to need to nap and based on some of the stories I remember reading and hearing about the work at the BW, that may not be possible. In fact, 5 on-site resorts are undergoing work through at least this summer. What the heck is going on?

What's going on is the DVCMC sat on their butts and didn't have the resorts maintained as they should have. Now all of a sudden they have decided to have the resorts/rooms worked on all at once. Some are major updates, others just soft goods like drapes, carpets, furniture, bedding.

Makes it difficult for owners to find somewhere to stay that isn't having work done.

Usually the soft goods refurbs do not involve much, if any noise.

All the resorts at once is a bit ridiculous though IMO. And since they ought to keep them on the same schedule it would mean this will happen periodically every few years - everything at once.

We were at BLT 2 weeks ago. You could see workers in the parking lot at 7 AM. Only passed them a few times inside. Polite smiles and moved right out of everyone's way. Heard a few banging noises during the day (we spend a good amount of time at the resort) but nothing bothersome. I have had worse neighbors plenty of times.

(we were on the 14th floor and there was noise right above us a few times so my guess is they started high and working their way down)

Should mention that we were at BWV last fall and found the workers right outside our balcony a bit annoying because we felt like we had to keep the curtains closed when we went back to the room mid-afternoon.

BLT is supposed to be a "soft" goods refurb, meaning painting the room and repairing or replacing items such as furniture as needed and putting in new carpeting. It typically does not involve very loud noises like you can get with a complete redo of the rooms such as BWV just had and BCV is currently getting. A typical process followed and likely to be followed at BLT is that they will start with the top floor and then work down floor by floor, doing each floor in sections, possibly three at BLT -- one for each wing and one for the rooms in the center between the elevators. It is usually not an issue for persons staying at the resort except for those in a room that is directly below or above the area being worked on, which can sometimes hear some noise.

Any particular section done during a "soft" goods refurb can be done fairly quickly, but the whole process, since they are only doing a little at any one time, can last a long time, and I would suspect the one at BLT, which started recently, could run into late this year or early next year.

Thanks for the head's up. When did they come out with this information? I probably missed it with chasing the toddler around.

The refurbishment was announced at the annual condo meeting back in December.

If the noise is a huge problem, Boardwalk is finished. I don't think Saratoga Springs in under refurbishment right now either. You might consider changing to one of those to avoid cranky toddler.

Received a letter in the mail today regarding our stay in 2 weeks at BLT. The letter states:....We are currently in the process of renovating rooms at BLT for your future enjoyment. While we are working our magic, it is possible that you may see and hear construction taking place. To minimize any possible disruptions to your stay, we will attempt to limit any work most likely to cause noise impact to the hours of 9am-5pm.....
I hope I do not have any issues with lack of rooms. What happens if there is no availability due to rooms being renovated? Or has this happen?

We got our letter about 2 months agO, about the refurb. I am hoping, minimal notice to none at all. We will be the 15and 16th floor as we have a grandvilla. Will post photos of we get a refurb room.

Other than some unexpected issue they would have been contacting people about moving if they had not been able to block out the rooms they would have out of service during the refurb. That is what they had to do at VWL but I think they've planned a bit better for these other refurbs.

Oh this is great news about BLT. I was worried that they were going to postpone the refurb.

At least there are restricted hours. We loved the 7am leaf blowers right in front of our villa at Poly. NOT. They were lucky we didn't throw pillows at them.

Any updates on this refurb? Refurbished room photos or just any info on how the work is going and when they predict it will be finished?
