BLT access bridge closed for 1 week

At Sunday's meeting, it was mentioned the work should be finished on/by Wednesday.

Everything at BLT was approved by Jim Lewis the blame belongs there. Even though many on the operations staff did not feel the materials selected would hold up to wear and tear their concerns were ignored.

Just curious; how do you know this?

They definately need to do something with the flooring it is super slippery when it rains. My son wiped out and we saw 2 other kids fall on different occasions during the same trip, they were walking with their families too so it's not like they were running and fell, it's just so slippery that if your not paying attention to each step your feet can easily go out from under you.

This is soo true!! I almost wiped out the day it rained!! I hated also the wind blowing and almost knocking me over up there:sad2:

Definitely open as of this morning! We walked across after spending some time at MK. The flooring looks new although I don't have anything to compare it to---it's a pebble finish in beige, seems like it would be slip proof. There's a guy still working on the access door on the CR side of the bridge.

Yes, as the previous poster reported, the bridge is open and has a nice slip proof surface. As far as I can tell, there is no change to the automatic doors. They just popped open for us. They said it was reopened at 9AM this morning. We're thrilled - would have been a pain to access thru the front of the tower.

Hi quirty30 or dis-happy,

Have you noticed if they continued the opaque glass panels to block the MK view? When we were there the last week of July, about 1/4 of the walkway had them starting on the Contemporary side. Just wondering if they continued it.

Thanks Darla

This would have been so nice to have while we were there in July  Let's just say crocs and painted wet cement don't mix well. Glad they fixed it.

The glass is there to keep folk from looking down on the loading dock area which is not the prettiest of sights. They designed the bridge with the idea that folk will be looking at the MK and even installed speakers so we could listen in on the fireworks music in the evening while out there. I doubt they'll ever block the view.

Interestingly enough, they are now also putting the slip-proof surface on the 4th floor CR observation deck.

Did you happen to notice if they still have the smoking area open on the 4th floor deck? We check in on the 19th and my DH likes to use that area in the morning when he has his coffee and first cigarette. He is good about observing the DSA's so if the ashtray has been removed, he'll take his coffee down to the DSA near the back door of BLT. But I'd like to warn him in advance.

Glad to hear that they resurfaced. The walkway was slippery when wet the last time we stayed there.

I don't get the problem with the ledge on the balconies. I tried standing on it last time we stayed there and I could sort of step up. I am five one but still taller than the average 10 year old I think. I would have had to work at falling over the edge. Much easier to just climb on the chair that is on the balcony! And parents checking in to a high rise building with balconies should already be aware that hazard exists. Not a great design but I wouldn't be pretty vigilant about letting my kid out on the balcony anyhow. In fact my 8 year old niece is with us this trip. She probably has sense enough not to jump off but we won't be taking the chance.

Hooray!

They're still resurfacing so it's all blocked off at the moment.
