BLT - 7 Month Ressies??

I absolutely love what I see of BLT. I really like the location and I even like the decor. Our points are at VWL, AKV and HHI. How easy do you think it will be to get 7 month ressies at BLT for a studio? Will some times of the year be easier than others (we can go whenever we wish). I had planned on spending my 60th birthday (Sept. 2010) at AKV (Kidani), but I'm thinking about changing my mind to BLT, if we can get a reservation then.

In terms of size, BLT will be the 5th largest DVC -- smaller than BWV but larger than BCV. It has a fantastic location and great views. For the next few years, it will be extremely popular.

Thus, I believe it may be difficult to book BLT. I said difficult, but not impossible. I think of it as another BCV.

If you are not looking for a Magic Kingdom view, then I think you will be ok as long as you are not booking around holidays, etc.

I think it will be possible; however, you can forget about the MK view rooms at 7 Months. Only 20% of the rooms will be MK views.

They will be almost as hard to get as a Club Level DVC room at AKV.

Magic can and does happen frequently though, as we've been able to secure Club level rooms several times (during May and July) at under 7 months.

I thought it was going to be impossible to get BLT at 7 months, but then my hubby and I remembered that we have gotten Wilderness Lodge during peak season at under 2 months, as well as Club Level rooms, so it may be possible. None of us are going to know though until we actually try.

Has anyone thought about selling an existing contract, so that you could purchase a BLT contract? I have to say, I've actually given this some thought. I don't know how I would come out financially though. I had previously thought about selling our VWL contract and buying a HHI contract. But I am very excited about BLT (much more so than any other DVC resort really). Does anyone ever do this - sell one contract and then turn around and buy another contract just to get 11 months?

Thought about it, but once we crunched the numbers, we would lost a lot of money - Canadian exchange was a lot higher when we bought, plus, you have to add in the bit of interest we've paid and commission/fees. It makes no sense to us to lose a good chunk of money when our SSR contract is just fine. This doesn't make financial sense to us, as the BLT points are not necessary. Sure, we'd love to own at BLT, but we will hopefully do that in a few years when we have more things paid off and then we'll have SSR, AKV and BLT.

We're banking on that MAGIC!! We own @ OKW and really don't want to purchase any additional points. I guess time will tell if we will need to purchase some BLT points just to be sure we can have that booking advantage!!

I just did that. We were going to buy 100 BLT points but then DH wanted 150 so I sold a 50 point BCV - took about a day to sell it and I sold it for more than I paid.

I look at BLT like a small BWV. It will be pretty tough to get MK and Standard View rooms at the 7 month mark and since those are the two views I want I felt compelled to buy (like BW and Standard). Considering that only 20% each of the total rooms are those categories and the smaller size of the resort it did not make sense to me to chance it.

I'm hoping I can grab something at the 7 month mark, but if not, I'm happy staying at SSR at the 11 month mark too. I figure I want to try each resort if luck allows me to do so, but if not, I'm content to go to SSR anyway. Plus THV at 11 months is a great perk that would make me extremely satisfied as well. I am lucky to be able to travel at any time of the year, but prefer not to travel in the summer months so I wouldn't mind being flexible with the time frame of my vacation to get what I want. I really just want to stay at BLT once to try it out because I haven't stayed on a monorail resort since I was little. I'd love a lake view.

So when WILL booking start for non members? Has booking dates for members even been announced yet? I know THV booking for SSR members is set for Feb. 1st or 8th according to announcements here.

BLT owners can book BLT starting on March 1, 2009. SSR owners can book THV on Feb. 8, 2009. Not sure about non owners.

I do think it will be hard to book a BLT studio 7 months out. Not impossible for some times of the year. I just don't want to chance it! I have thought about selling our SSR 150 points to get BLT.(we also have 50 points at AKV) But, now that THV have been announced, we would love to stay there sometimes too. So originally we were going to purchase 200 points at BLT, now we will just keep our points and add on 100 points at BLT. That way we will be able to do 5 nights in a 1 bedroom at BLT every other year, and 5 nights at THV every year, and a weekend with just DH and I in a studio at AKV every year. I am a planner and I love that 11 month advantage!

Cool, and thanks for posting! I think I'll just chance it! I can't afford to add on right now - babies are expensive little love bugs - and I won't give up my SSR points for BLT.

Depending on the size of your contract(s), you will likely lose somewhere in the range of $35 a point in the conversion after commissions. It could be more in the $40 a points range if you're not careful. Of course you'd pick up home resort priority, a more valuable ownership long term, and the ability to chose your contract size(s) and UY. Another option is to simply take the difference and do an add on. Assuming a 300 pt contract, one could add on 100 points and keep the VWL points for about the same other than the higher yearly fees. IMO, it only makes sense to do this if you plan to sell anyway at some point or desire to downgrade the number of points you own significantly. Otherwise I'd just keep the VWL points, reserve at 11 months out, try to convert at 7 months out and waitlist if need be.
