Country Bear Jamboree

Lyrics of song sung by Big Al.....

“There was...
blood on the saddle,
and blood all around.
And a great, big puddle
of blood on the ground.”

Huh?!?!?!?!?!? Sounds pretty horrific to me.

That song has always creeped me out, and the way the guitar notes sound doesn't help at all
Otherwise I love the Country Bears!!

It's not creepy - it's hilarious.

Our family loves the Country Bears - it's always one of the 1st things we do on our 1st day. That way, we are singing "blood on the saddle..." all week.

Oh my gosh...gotta love Big Al and "Blood on the Saddle!" We always laugh so hard when that portion of Country Bears rolls around.

horrific - no. hilarious - YES! it was meant to be appalling in a funny way. (besides, have you ever heard some country songs from the 50s or 60s - not that far from "blood on the saddle" - that's for sure.)

just like:

Mamma don't whoop little Beauford.
Mamma don't beat on his head.
Mamma don't whoop little Beauford.
I think you should shoot him instead.

(also from the country bears) this one always had us in stitches. we had a dog named beauford - and he was a stubborn cuss who we had to whoop quite a bit to keep him off the dining room table, away from the Christmas ham, away from the kid's hidden Easter eggs....you name it) We loved that stubborn dog and we laughed about that song over and over again. this last trip was our first after his passing. we all shed a tear when we heard it again.

How long before the PC police put an end to the Country Bears due to the references to blood and shooting?

I hope CB never change.

We love it - and all the other fun songs.

Hey Gang, it IS a 50s-60s counrty song. Tex Ritter . . . John's Daddy.

and this from a 46th and Market BandStand kid.

They really need to put up a warning sign outside. Maybe something like, "Warning, song lyrics may be offensive to over-sensitive guests." :rolleyes1

The lyrics are a bit ugh. However, his voice just makes it kinda funny. I love Country Bears :)

Absolutely hilarious song! :thumbsup2 We all love CBJ -especially Big Al

I do wonder what happened that all the blood is there.

That is what I always wondered as a kid. I would not "report" it as offensive in any way but it always stuck with me & I mentioned that to my husband when we saw the show this year. I think it is hilarious that I still remember that particular part. I don't imagine any warning signs are required ;) Just thought it was funny that someone brought this memory up.

May be wrong, but I think Blood On the Saddle, as sung by Tex Ritter, was the theme song for a western movie from the 50's.
As done in CB, and like most of the other songs in the show, it's a spoof; and a darn good one. Never fails to crack us up,:cool2: and we've probably seen it 50 times.

All together now!

"All the boys that turn me on turn me down! Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo!"

I love Big Al!!! I forgot about all the great, totally un-PC fun, disneyfied raunchiness of the CBJ! I even had a stuffed Big Al as a souvenir from one my last trips with my family.

Not only is "BotS" a "real country song" written by Tex Ritter, it is actually performed by Tex Ritter in the CB show.

Big Al's voice is performed by Tex Ritter.

What's more, the song's complete lyrics are even MORE "graphic." ;)

There was blood on the saddle and blood all around
And a great big puddle of blood on the ground

A cowboy lay in it all covered with gore
And he never will ride any broncos no more

Oh, pity the cowboy, all bloody and red
For the bronco fell on him and bashed in his head

There was blood on the saddle and blood all around
And a great big puddle of blood on the ground

oh good. Now I know where all the blood came from. :rotfl:

Just so you know how easily I'm offended, some of my favorite movies are:
Kill Bill, Borat, and Superbad.
So I wouldn't say I'm offended by the Country Bear Jamboree. I just find it creepy and disturbing and apparently, I don't see the humor in it. It's on my list of things I never want to experience again. Right up there with watching the Doodlebops or Teletubbies. :)
