Looking for some details on BB Shell Island, Clamshell shade area. Before I call AGAIN, I'd like to know reservation process and cost. Online is states first come first serve with no cost listed.

I've already called once about Polar Patios (sold out) and Umbrella area (available) for the day we are planning to visit. I didn't know about the Shell Island when I originally called.

Clamshell Shade is just like the umbrellas although in a slightly more private area that overlooks the wave pool directly. (C on the map below).

The regular umbrellas are in the VERY back(side) of BB and kinda inconvenient to get to. But a good place to guarantee you'll get a spot if crowded, plus you get towels (free if staying at a WDW resort 2 dollars a towel otherwise). We do feel better leaving our iPhones, etc at the umbrellas as they are in a gated area hidden in a corner. Not like a theft couldn't occur but they arent in the walking path of all the other guests like free chairs are.

There are a lot of good free spots(that are better than the regular umbrellas) if you are getting there right at opening. But of course they aren't guaranteed like an umbrella rental.

It's my understanding you can't reserve that location in advance. If I could, I'd opt for that over the patios.

Yes its my understanding there is a rope drop rush to that spot pretty much every morning. Its the 7 dwarves mine train of BB.

Im not sure if its still this crammed in there post COVID changes, but the rented umbrellas chairs definitely offer much more elbow room.

Online I found - This particular area cannot be reserved in advance, and is available on a first-come, first-served basis, for same-day reservations. I would highly recommend arriving early, and heading straight to Beach Haus, to enquire about reserving this space.

If it's a rope drop/free event, our family can so do that.

Just trying to plan for the day.

I don't have the answer to that one. Sites like Touring Plans list it as a free area but they may have changed. Id call Blizzard Beach to inquire.

The "Magical Extras" number, or whatever its called, is usually a much shorter wait.

The clam shells are in the spot below. You can’t rent them in advance, but can same day at the same place where you check in for the Polar Patios/Umbrellas, which when we did it this past March was in Lottawatta Lodge (in the past it’s been the Beach Haus, so not sure if that moves around).

We got there maybe 30-45 mins early and stood in the line, which was mostly polar patio peeps checking in. If I’m not mistaken we got the last clam shell that day.

I’m not sure what the guest count is, it might only be 2? And unfortunately I don’t recall the cost.

We enjoyed the clam shell - it was a perfect central spot and mostly shady, although that varied by the time of day.

Called at 7 am. Already have a 45 minute phone wait. We keep wondering why prices increase - supply and demand.

Would you rent again?

Only a 17 minutes call with hold and a thorough answer.

There is no public information about Clam Island so they couldn't give me an official answer.

She reached out to others and found the same information that has been previously shared on this site.

Yeah, I think I would. I’d rather have a patio, but this was a cheaper alternative. Guessing/pegging when to arrive in hopes they aren’t already booked is sort of an annoying wrinkle.

Although it’s frankly not that much different than just grabbing free chairs anywhere, so it’s not an earth shattering/must have amenity, IMO.

We did BB this past Sunday and we had no issue finding chairs in the shade at opening. There was plenty to be found even later in the day too. Personally, I'd save the money and just get there at open. Back by the ski patrol area there's two of those shaded pavilions in the corner that no one seems to run to. We found this to be a good spot to be by the slides and the lazy river although it's far from the wave pool.
