My 8 yo DD loves Typhoon Lagoon, but just seeing Blizzard Beach from the busses on the way to the parks freaks her out. We're planning a trip in November or December and I've been saying "of course we'll go to Typhoon Lagoon." Okay, so now I actually check and discover that TL is usually closed for rehab at that time of the year. That leaves us with Blizzard Beach. She is not going to be happy. How can I sell it to her?

Thanks!

Well, I suppose that the easiest sell is "Blizzard Beach is the only waterpark open, so if you want a water park is BB or nothing." :p

I guess my question is, why does she freak out? If it's just because of the height of the one waterslide that you can see, then maybe you just need to pull out your handy dandy guide to WDW and reassure her that there's other stuff there and that she doesn't have to go on the big slide with the big drop.

I mean ... just as she knows that there are lots of different areas at Typhoon Lagoon and that she doesn't have to go on anything she doesn't want to there, she must realize that BB is the same type of deal.

Why the freak out?

There's a sing-a-long video called "Beach Party at Walt Disney World" that shows both BB and TL. Maybe if she saw that there are other things to BB besides Summit Plummet she might be more interested in going there:D

Yeah, it's Summit Plummit. We've discussed and shown her the descriptions of BB, but . . . I like the video idea. I would like for her to want to go to BB.

My dd was 9 last year when we visited BB and she loved it. There is an entire area devoted to 'tweens and there is also really fun family raft ride. I'm sorry I am not much help because I spent the entire time at Tyke's Peak with the toddler:D

There's a show on the travel channel this week that lists the top 10 waterparks and BB is #2.
Maybe if you watch it with her she will get excited about it.

I was worried about nothing. When we talked about it tonight she said she thought it was stupid that they closed TL, but that we'll have to make the best of BB. "But, I'm not going on that big one!" (Me either!!)

I'll watch for that travel channel show. Thanks for the heads up.

I think there's more to do at Blizzard Beach than Typhoon Lagoon for kids who aren't into the big slides. My sons are 5 and 7 and the oldest loves the Ski Patrol Training Camp with its inner-tube slides, T-bar, culvert slide, and floating icebergs. The family raft ride is longer than the one at Typhoon Lagoon.
