Blisters or Sock Burn?

Anyway,
I just got home from a walk in my sneakers. They are 3 mths old. They give me sock burn when i walk in em with my socks. I thought they would be better then my crocs for Disney World in 14 days. :cool1: But I dunno. The Crocs did give me blisters at one time.

:headache:
I can never win. :)

PS: Happy Halloween
I am on weight watchers and went to a meeting on Thursday. If you have any left over candy that you hand out or kids don't want, bring the left overs to the nearest weight watchers where they will send the candy over seas to our troops.

I've had a problem with blisters/burns for years when walking/running. A few months ago I tried some of those athletic socks that wick the moisture from your feet and have padding in them. I LOVE THEM. No more sore feet! That's what I'm wearing when we go to Disney in 3 weeks :cool1:!

I also got the socks that 720L mentioned for WDW, and they were awesome! I did get a blister on the bottom of my pinkie toe, but it wasn't from the shoe or sock rubbing. I tried to wear crocs one day thinking they would give my tired feet some relief, but I started getting blisters right away and had to put on a pair of socks and a bunch of bandaids to finish out the day at HS.

Yes yes a thousand times yes. 3 pairs of socks for $25 (for the 3 pair set, NOT per pair) at Road Runner Sports? Before, I said NO! And now...I have 6 pairs of socks for me and hubby each, and DS got 3 pairs as well. We don't even wear our cotton socks anymore if we can help it, it's made THAT much of a difference in the comfort of our feet. What we thought was our shoes was actually our socks!

some of the so called cotton socks have polyester or nylon in them and give me a blister if walk much in them at all. so be sure 100% cotton or what the others that posted are suggesting. Crocks give me blisters without socks if walking very far. or need socks.

:hippie:I was going to weigh in with my super sock suggestion, but it's the same many of the others appear to be suggesting!
:worship:Wright socks are the right socks!:worship:
I walk a lot, and did think the only proper sock was 100% cotton. And if you've eczema on your feet, you might still be thinking that 100% cotton is best.

100% cotton great if you're not doing a lot of walking, if the socks don't get damp with sweat (or from Splash Mountain/Kali River Rapids, etc)--once cotton is wet, it sags & stretches and sticks and rubs---Blister city!

But I visited the Running Room here to find a "body glide" type product I had read about a couple years ago (prob here on the Disboards), and they suggested the Wright Socks to me.
Well! Hallejulah! Haven't had a blister since (and there's been many many days that I've walked, or walked+run more than 10km....even did a half marathon last month that was 21.1k, plus another few from the car and back to the car... so call it 25k for sure!
I'd wear their shirt if they have one!
They are synthetic, and a double layer sock. Comes in diff lengths, and even diff weights (to cool or to keep warm). Main thing is the bottom layer whisks the sweat to the next layer (sounds like some brand of diapers..:rolleyes1), and because of the double layer, the blister causing friction is eliminated.

I first bought a 2-pk, cringing inside at paying almost $10 a pair.
Now I have about 10 prs. And no blisters. Makes the socks so worth it!

AND! You might want to experiment with the way you're lacing your sneakers (I use the zero-friction speed lacing things on all my sneakers! I used to have to constantly adjust my laces, but saw these on the same visit to Running Room, and bought 1 set to try out, and Wow! Another problem solved! No more chafing on the tops of my feet! And it's so much easier to take them off/on. I've got a set on every pair of sneakers I own (4). I haven't used the stretchy laces, just the regular kind.

Good luck!

And best of luck w/ your Weight watcher journey! Remember slow and steady is the way to go!

The boy scouts have a motto: "Cotton Kills" because nothing will trap moisture and hold it against your body better than cotton. You want to be sure your socks are nylon, wool or another synthetic material. I know, wool, ick. But wet skin (with shoes we're talking sweat, another ick, but we all have it) becomes loose and will easily blister with friction. Athletic and hiking socks will be your best bet, but be sure to read the contents to make sure cotton isn't there.

My feet will blister if I just look at them wrong. I wear traditional style crocs with short sports socks and have no issues other than making a huge fashion faux pas. :rotfl: If I skip the socks I'll blister where the edges of the croc shoe rub.

Another thing to note is the rub/glide people talk of that will keep the blistering and sweating down on your feet, any good antiperspirant will do the exact same thing, is easy to find and costs about 1/4 of the body glide. I have a stick I use just for my feet (it is a very odd feeling putting antiperspirant on one's feet though)

Another choice is to just being multiple socks in a bag with you and swap out every so often.

Diabetic socks are smoother on inside have no rough seams an usually wick the moisture away from feet along with being nonbinding. They work GREAT for lots of walking.

Also monistat smoothing gel ordorless colorless can be used on feet an anywhere else on body that rubs an chafs by either sex it also drys almost instantly when applied. Love LOVE this stuff. It is found with the female products in most stores. A little goes along way is cheaper than body glide does the same thing.....applied in the AM I set to go for the day at disney unless I swim.

Also changing socks mid day is a big help too esp during the warmer months.

Blister queen here. I do a lot of running and speed walking. I've tried all kinds of products but I have not tried the monistat. I'll take a look at it.

What type of walking do you do when you get the blisters? Exercising (faster walking)? Normal walking? Combination?

Where exactly do you get the blisters? Could it be due to the shoes you are wearing? If I do serious, speed-walking I have wear stability shoes due to my slight over-pronation. I used to blister a lot on the right side of my left foot and left side of my right foot. Now, not so much. Every now and then I'll blister on the ball of my foot. I've learned to apply moleskin and Elastikon tape to areas prone to blistering. In addition, I apply body glide or similar product to other parts of my feet as a preventive measure. My feet sweat easily when I exercise (or go full speed at WDW parks) - this is why I have to go through so much trouble. Unfortunatley, Wright socks, diabetic socks and other expensive socks did nothing for me without the tape and body glide.

You just need to find out what works for you. It may just be that you need to change socks. It would be great if it were that simple. :thumbsup2

I'm with Twinklebug on the anti-cotton thing. You need something that's going to wick away moisture. You don't want to trap it with cotton.

My feet know as soon as I step out of the plane in Orlando. They immediately want to blister. The key to blister free trips is a combination of mole skin and Thorlos socks.

I hit all of the known blister zones with the mole skin and wear Thorlos. Last time I was in WDW, I was there for 10-days without a blister.

I just got back from Disney last week. My DH was at the foot dr. the next day because of a "burn" on his toe. It was so bad that he refused to go through the scanner at the airport with his shoes off. His sock was a little gross. I have always bought him all cotton socks because my dr told me they were the best thing to buy because of his athletes foot problem. He is also diabetic and had just had a really bad blister on the same toe. Thank you all for the suggestions to the OP. I will be looking into some of these socks for him in the hopes that it will alleviate some of his problems.

Surprisingly i get the blisters on top of my foot where the plastic croc logo is? Man. I have two ugly blister scars on my feet (in the same place on both feet. lol).

I have been walking a lot since i was 13. I'd go for daily walks 2 times a day for 30 minutes in my crocs and never really had a problem until now. :(. Grrr.
I wore crocs in disney the last 6 times and didn't have any blisters. (one year i wore my shoes that had a heel lol. wrong choice).

anyway. i hope to solve this [probelm soon. I'm not a big sock wearer but i wear socks with my sneakers and still end up with burns on the back of the heel.
