Blister Prevention

A few days ago, there was a thread talking about products to prevent blisters. I'm familiar with moleskins, but there was also a mention of another product that many thought was even better. It was a product available in mostly speciality stores, not in your typical drug store.

Stupidly, I didn't jot it down and now I can't find the thread. Can anyone help me out on this?

Could it have been Body Glide? I use it instead of Moleskin now, and love it.

Body Glide is packaged like deodorant is. The container looks the same and it gets rubbed on pretty much the same. I put it on my feet and do not get blisters.

I don't buy special shoes, just wear my regular Reebok Princess shoes, the ones that have been around for 20 years. They are popular with nurses.

Zero blister problems.

Monistat also has and anti-chaffing gel, that works to prevent blisters. The product is in with the other Monistat products. If I remember correctly Bodyglide is only available in sporting good stores. I used the Monistat anti-chaffing gel on my last trip and did not have any blisters, normally by day 3 my feet are one solid blister.

Bodyglide probably...available at camping and sporting good stores like www.rei.com or Eastern Mountain.

Similar products that work well:

Blisershield Roll on and powder available online and at sporting good stores. The powder is GREAT for those who wear sneakers and socks. I use the roll on for chafing between my legs. It's a bit greasier then BodyGlide. I use Bodyglide for my feet.

Monistat but I haven't tried that one yet.

Avon's anti-blister (and chafing) peppermint balm. Love this stuff. I like how it's got the minty smell.

Body Glide is a great product. Since I have started using it I have not had a single blister.

I got mine at a running store but you can get it on the internet too.

I do have a question though -

What exactly does it do? You just coat your feet with it? That sounds kinda gross. Can you actually tell that there is something on your feet? Feet sweat, so it sounds like coating them with something would make it worse, especially in sandals.

Probably stupid questions, but I am curious!

It's kind of like deoderant. I put it on my feet with my Teva sandals. I haven't had a blister in years since I started using it. It doesn't feel weird at all. It just puts a barrior on your feet to prevent friction/hot spots.

The Blistershield is a bit more greasy so that is why I use it for chafing instead of on my feet although I've used it for my feet as well too, I prefer Bodyglide for my feet.

I use a antiperspirant/deodorant clear gel on my feet so I won't get blisters and so they smell nice. It feels a little wet if you put it on too thick but dries really quick. Might be cheaper than the bodyglide. My .02

Wearing the right kind of shoes makes all the difference in the world when it comes to preventing blisters.

We swear by Tevas, though Crocs sound like they are pretty good too.

Pick a GOOD pair of shoes and make sure they are broken in before you wear them on vacation.
