OK, I will be the first to admit that I spend much longer in the hottub than the average passenger, and most likely more time than is adviseable.

But the hot tubs completely stripped my bathing suits of colour! My last cruise was hot so I mostly just sat on the top step of the hottub for a while in the evenings. I noticed that my bikini bottoms had sort of gone off colour and thought it was a bit odd. This cruise was cooler so spent more time fully immersed in the water and low and behold, the bikini tops are now as bleached as the bottoms. This was the adults only hot tubs, usually the one on the non-smoking side. Anyone else have this problem?

This happened to us at WDW~thanks for the heads up. I was a little annoyed about it, but had to suck it up...

I'm not a laundry expert, but here are my thoughts.

While the chlorine is going to bleach it out, you can lessen it if you immediately rinse/wash out your suit in cold water. It is kind of a pain since I know I have no desire to wash or even just rinse out the chlorine. But if you don't, the chlorine water just stays on it.

Does this also happen from the pools? I always rinse out our suits if I don't was them right away. Just want to make sure if it does my dd doesn't wear her favorite one.

chlorine is not swim suit friendly

suits need to be rinsed

Though poly fabic suits are more chlorine friendly

I keep certain swimsuits just for the DCL hot tubs and our hot tub at home, which has the same effect. My pink suits were red once upon a time.....

Not only should you use the shower by the pool to rinse off after getting out of the pool and hot tub, but try getting your bathing suit completely wet with plain water prior to getting in. If the material has absorbed a lot of fresh water, it will be less likely to absorb a lot of chlorine. I know it can be a bit cool, but use that shower prior to and after hitting the pool or hot tub.

There is a product that you can buy, it's called Summer Solutions - Suit Solutions. You just mix 2 capfulls in the sink w/ some tap water, and it's supposed to clean & protect your suit from chlorine. I've been using it for a few years, on my more expensive suits. I bought it at a little Swimsuit Boutique, but maybe you could find it online. It was only $5.

I think they use more than chlorine in the hot tubs on the ships, one of my suits became much more pale in the hot tub on HAL in Alaska. I would rather a bleached suit than what ever else might be in the water.
