What do ladies wear to something that the invite says black tie?
Long or Cocktail??
Everyone is so casual now

Every function I've gone to that says black tie the women were in long dresses. If it says black tie optional, then you could go with a cocktail dress.

If it is black tie it's formal, go with a full length dress/gown.

I go to Dept Stores, they have some nice dresses pretty much all year long and if all else fails, there is always ebay.

I've found JC Penney has a good selection and they tend to be less expensive than some of the other stores. If you can wait until after New Year's Eve they should have some good sales. Last year I bought a beautiful dress after the first of the year for $9.99. I've also bought formal wear at Macy's and Lord & Taylor (who also has good sales after the first of the year).
