Black Swan... quite possibly

Just saw it the other night. We enjoyed it.

I think it's one of those movies that you have to watch more than once to pick up on different things.

I liked it a lot. Thought Natalie Portman did an amazing job.

I just got this from Netflix, Dh said he would watch it w/ me...but only after I told him the movie contained female nudity.

I haven't watched it yet, but I want to. I can't imagine it was any more over-hyped than The Dark Knight. I thought that movie was awful and I didn't understand everyone's rave reviews of it or Heath Ledger in it.

Loved the movie and Heath Ledger, and I am not a big Batman fan.

He's gonna be mighty disappointed if that's the only reason he's willing to watch it! I don't believe there's any nudity, and if there is it's very minimal.

:confused3 Hello- its a movie focusing on BALLET

I'm well aware of what the movie is about. It's a creepy, twisted, psychological thriller about a woman going insane set against a ballet theme... and it messes with your own mind in the process. The same plot could have been done if she was the CEO of a corporation. And it could have been done with two guys instead of two girls.

You can call it what you want, but to me it is NOT a chick flick. Typing in red letters isn't going to change my mind. Neither is being rude

My point is -if the subject matter is Ballet-most guys will not look at it-thus i called it a "chick flick"

I'm also surprised the OP watched it-no way my DH would.:confused3

If people don't want to find out what a movie is actually about before they decide whether or not they want to watch it, that's their choice.

But I know plenty of guys who saw it. Some liked it, others didn't. I guarantee that none of them thought it was a chick flick.

It's not a chick-flick. Romantic comedies and Sex And the City are chick-flicks. Having a backdrop of ballet/dance does not automatically qualify a film as a chick click...Would that make White Nights or Tap chick flicks??

But the subject matter wasn't ballet. It was a psychological thriller that happened to be about a ballet dancer. Lots of guys in the theater when I saw it, and it was sold out that night.

If the movie was about a girl starring in Swan Lake...that would be a chick flick about ballet.

That sure wasn't what this movie was about.

No way in the world can this be considered a chick flick!

The movie did not focus on ballet. :confused3 The main character just happened to be a ballet dancer.

The movie was a psychological thriller. As someone else said, the subplot could have been about any profession out there.........an athlete, a CEO, anyone at all. It just happened to be about a ballet dancer.

The movie most certainly did not focus on ballet. Now if you watch the older movie Center Stage..........that focuses on ballet.

Ballet need not be for women only. I actually found that element of the film to be oddly hypnotising! I must say, the film struck me as classic Aronofsky - dark, twisted and harsh on the main characters.

Requiem for a Dream is probably his best work and my favourite.

I read this title to DH and he said "there's no way it's worse than Me, Myself and Irene" :lmao:

While he didn't watch all of Black Swan with me, the parts that he did see, though he said they were creepy, he thought it was good. I loved it. I thought that Natalie Portman was absolutely fantastic! It was dark and at points disturbing, but nothing that I was really freaked out about. Ok, maybe the part with her legs. Not a spoiler! I would definitely watch it again. Just for Natalie Portman's performance alone. Outstanding.
