Black out date for 3-19 - what tickets would you buy?

We typically buy AP's and ours just recently expired. We'll be at the Poly 3-13 to 3-19 and if renewing to a gold AP, 3-19 would be blacked out for us. DD13 now wants to take the latest flight home at 9:30 PM on 3-19 so I'm sure we'll be tempted to go to the parks. Previously, we were planning a pool day and taking a mid day flight. So what would you guys do for tickets?

I have priced the UCT 8 day hopper at $1,675.80 ($418.95 per person) for four Disney adults which would allow us to be in the park on 3-19 and we'd convert to gold AP before leaving. If I calculate correctly, when converting we'd be paying $130.00 extra per ticket x 4 = $520.00 plus tax of $142.76 / total conversion of $662.76. Does this sound right? I assume tax applies with the conversion but am unsure since we've never done this before.

Thanks,
Tabatha

I don't know the answer, but will they let you convert it to a gold AP, if you are converting on a black out day for Gold?

I've seen reports of people upgrading to the gold AP at the end of the blackout day.

Yes, that's what I was planning to do if I go this route - upgrade to gold as we leave the park. Hopefully, that plan would work since we wouldn't be re entering on the black out date.

If it were me, I'd stick with the mid-day return. I've tried the latest-flight-possible routine once or twice. In the words of a good friend: "Too much sugar for a dime."

You are off slightly. The upgrade price will be 140/ticket. 549(AP)-409(8dPH)=140*6.5%(tax)=149.10/ticket to upgrade.
Also make sure you sign up for mousesavers.com news letters for the biggest discounts for the tickets.
Now if you want the biggest savings, buy the
9-Day Park Hopper® + Water Park Fun & More ticket and you will save 28 dollars/ticket on the price of an Gold AP.
UCT ticket price is 444.95. The price to upgrade is 110.76. Total is 555.71/ticket vs. 584.69.
Note, do NOT use any of the Water Park Fun & More options.

I was able to upgrade to a gold pass on a blocked out day during December without a problem.

Thanks Disneycouple99! I do receive the Mousesavers newsletter but didn't pay much attention to the last newsletter since traveling for the holidays. I believe there's only one publication per month - did I miss any UCT deals for Dec.? Our FP window opens mid Jan. so I will need to buy tix soon prior to the next newsletter.

Great suggestion for the 9 day hopper + water parks.

Came out on Dec. 15.

If you upgrade an 8 day hopper to DVC Gold AP prior to leaving, when does the AP activate?

Just buy the ticket with the largest discount at the time your purchase (Undercover lists the difference) that is less than the AP and that will cover your needs for the trip. That will get you the largest savings.
