Wow! When I came back here this afternoon I was surprised to see this thread was even still around.
Yes, I am actually wearing a black satin strappy sandal (which I love) with the dress. And I thought that's why they make sandalfoot hose. I don't know what to do now. I'm 42 and when I was in my teens and 20's, I think it was basically unheard of not to wear hose when you were that dressed up. During the 80's, I was in my 20's and at that time, not only did the hose show, but they were sometimes color matched to a particular outfit and sometimes had little stones, designs, etc. (I now hope we never go back to 80's fashions for many reasons! ) Although at that time I remember having pumps in every color but I don't remember any strappy sandals.
I'd been noticing this bare leg trend for a while now but have yet to do it myself when really dressed up. Even on some people I've seen with beautiful legs, it sometimes can look unfinished IMHO. If it's a casual summer dress that's a different story. And I think bare legs look great on the thin twenty something's but I'm really not sure about mine. I've tried many sunless tanners in the past and they honestly don't make my legs look all that dark. Also, I'm not overweight nor overly thin but I do have short legs with bigger calves which I hate. My strappy sandals have 3 inch heels which do alleviate that a little.
I'm really not sure what I'm going to do now, but I think I will take the advice of the poster who suggested putting the whole outfit on both ways and seeing which looks better. I just want to look nice. My DD 2 is the flower girl and DH will be presenting the gifts during the mass. I feel like either way someone is going to say look at that old lady with the sandals and hose, or someone is going to say what a nerve she has showing those ugly bare legs. The wedding is actually taking place in Philadelphia so I'm hoping the weather will be warmer than what we've been having here in Connecticut. Also, if its cold, then I have to wear hose. I usually get cold wearing sandals if it's under 80 degrees.
Thanks again to everyone for all the input - you really gave me something to think about.
