Black or natural pantyhose with my new little black dress???

During the winter, with a black dress, I wear very sheer, off-black hose. During the summer, it would definitely be a very sheer taupe-colored hose.

Opened toed shoes/sandals--NO hose!!

If you are going to wear pantyhose, get a very expensive, nice pair. They make all the difference in the world with how your legs look and the color.

Sorry, but :lmao: .

I would have a dress rehearsal and try the dress with nude stockings or black stockings, try it with different shoes, and also see if it looks better without stockings.

I'm crazy that way. lol

I think nude hose look like relics from the past... kind of like shoulder pads. They're not "in" anymore, nor are they at all fashionable. :crazy2: Obviously that's just my opinion since plenty of women still wear them!

I'm pale, too-- Nicole Kidman pale-- but I do not ever, ever wear hose. You can get some of that shimmmery "glow" lotion (I think Jergen's makes some), that gives your legs a nice sheen and takes out some of the white without actually having to resort to self-tanners (which I hate).

If you absolutely must wear hose, go with black, but not with open-toed shoes!

I agree! It's all about the shoes! LOL! If you are planning on wearing sandals, do not wear hose! :teeth:

Personally, I'd go with the bare legs ;) and use a sunless tanner since you live up here in cold, rainy New England (lol!) - no natural tan yet for us northern girls!

Black hose are so 90s! My vote is for no hose, but if ya gotta have hose, go with nude. NOT tan, unless your coloring is tan. Go with the sheerest hose you can buy that is closest to your natural coloring.

No pantyhose. Sunless tanner. I am soooo happy that pantyhose are no longer needed. :cool1:

OMG, I'm a walking "glamour don't"!!! OK, when did we stop wearing hose with sandals... I think I live in a fashion bubble!!! ;) Please enlighten me!!!

I have to add that wearing pantyhose is about the same as wearing "mom jeans"! Don't do it! :p

I just can't bring myself to go bare. I hate the feeling of bare feet in shoes, my legs are horribly white and nylons just make everything smoother including the lumpy bumpies under my dress. Bare legs to me are much to casual for a wedding. They don't look classy or professional to me. More power to ya if you are comfortable going without though. Just not for me.

To answer the OP you should always wear nylons in a shade that matches your skin tone or goes one shade darker. If you are a white woman then black nylons really don't look natural.

When legs start getting veiny and splotchy, you need to put hose on.

DITTO.

Bare legs are fine with a sundress and sandals, but I wear nylons that match my skin tone (usually, nude) any other time I "dress up." While I don't care WHAT other people wear, I'd just feel "wrong" (and uncomfortable) without them.

I only wear black nylons to funerals...but I don't actually know the etiquette about colored ones. :confused3

Where IS Miss Manners when you need her?

Well, there is another *rule* that states that from your hemline on down, you should be the same color. If you have a dark skirt on, hose and shoes should be dark. You should never match your shoes to, say, a blouse. (Example, beige blouse, black skirt, beige shoes).

I am a big "wearer" of dark hose in the winter and only when I have wool on. I will wear a black wool skirt, off-black hose, and black shoes. When it gets close to spring, I may still wear that black wool skirt, but all of a sudden, the dark hose just seems "wrong." :confused3

I say go bare especially if you have strappy sandals...If you must wear hose i would say wear nude..not one shade darker, or tan, or anything that is not near your skin color...I think that looks silly...It just screams "i have hose on!"...The more natural the better...

You ask when did we stop wearing hose with sandals.....I ask you WHEN DID WE START????:rotfl:

To the OP - If it were me, it would be sunless tanner and a shimmer lotion. I never ever wear hose - haven't in years. But if you feel that you must; I would go with the nude. I just can't grasp the concept of black hose.......why would you want to make your legs a different color than the rest of your body?

I am an old relic who still feels more comfortable in hose.

I wear a shade called "just bare", I don't remember the manufacturer, isn't that terrible? I just know it's a blue and white package and I pick them up at Penney's.

I only wear black hose in the winter, so I'd definitely go with nude hose in this case.

I don't think we want Miss Manners in this thread though, because she would not be okay with the black dress at a wedding.

never never never wear hose with strappy shoes or sandals. mystic tan, self tanners, sally hanson spray on hose, there are so many options.

if you are wearing closed toe heals and you feel you have to wear hose, get nude, as close to your normal color as possible.

I have to agree. My legs are long, stocky and very pale. Nude hose tends to smooth my legs out and gives them a hint of color. They don't look as bad for some reason. Plus, don't some of you rely on hose to smooth out your tummy a bit also? I do. Don't your feet stick in your shoes instead of that smooth feeling that wearing hose tends to give?

Well, they do make nylons with what they call a "sandal foot". Mine don't have a seam at the toe. I don't generally wear sandals for dressy occasions though.

Nylons just make me feel more "dressed up". Besides, Dh LOVES them ;)

I had my share of those horrible, chafing torture devices when I was waiting tables in college. Thank goodness it is acceptable not to wear them if you don't want to - and I would not wear them with strappy sandals, either. The sunless tanners today are great!

Many years ago when my nephew was about 3 or 4, we were all getting dressed to go to some special occasion, and I was wearing a dress with nylons. He came up to where I was sitting, rubbed my leg up and down, and said "Aunt Denae, your legs are sooooo soft." I bet he would be mortified now today to hear that story again.

It was the same kid at the same age saw a woman at a restaurant with an oxygen tank, and an eye patch. He excitedly hollered for all the patrons to hear "Mom, look, there's a pirate!" We hid behind our menus.

The question is, what are you wearing for shoes? If strappy or open toe, I would definitely say, sunless tanner and no hose at all!

Otherwise, if you are wearing closed toe shoes and arent comfortable w/o hose, I would wear nude nylons....as close to your skin tone as possible....ie, do not wear "Tan" if you are fair skinned.....it tends to scream, look at my hose!

i agree.
