Hi! I’m looking to buy a tv for my daughter to take to college next fall and wonder what size would be good?

Has anyone recently purchased one for their kids dorm and if so, what was the typical size you were seeing in the dorm rooms?

Thanks so much!

Are you sure she will want one? Neither of my DDs had a TV in their room. Even at home when they have the big screen TV to use, they either use their phone or computer to watch their shows. Dorm rooms are tiny and they are all set up differently, so very hard to say what size would be good.

She may also get an apartment with my oldest daughter who graduates college in May and commute. So they would need one anyway and we can always use an extra one here. She will use it in her room for now and it will be a Christmas present. So I’m just curious what size people have that DO have them in a dorm...not so much whether or not to get one.

Thanks!

My son took a large tv to use in his dorm, but he and his roommate never used it. When he got an apartment, it came with a 50 inch tv in the den, but he purchased a small tv (30 inch) for the bedroom to watch Netflix on. I am not sure he ever turned the large tv in the den on.

If I were buying my child a tv, I would purchase a smaller one to use in their bedroom in a future apartment.

Mine also didn't want one, but I would have gone with a 32 inch if she did. They just don't have much room and usually can't mount them to the walls which would get it out of the way.

My son has a 32 inch. If he wanted to put one on his dresser a 24 inch would be better, but we bought him a stand to put it on.

Mine took her 32" and rarely used it. She actually lent it to a friend and he took it home over the summer and still has it.
I think most kids watch shows on their laptops on the rare occasion they watch anything.

14" ... and attached to a laptop. Neither of my girls had (or seemed to want) a TV in a dorm room.
If you're looking at it for after dorm life, I would choose a small one. My reasoning: During /just after college, kids tend to move frequently, and a smaller TV is easier to move /less likely to be broken maneuvering up to a 2nd or 3rd floor apartment.

Yes I wouldn't get a stand alone TV for a college student. They watch shows on their laptop. Even at home where we have a 65" TV with surround sound my daughter typically watches on her laptop.
