lltrulygoofy said:Sorry about this...I'm sure this has already been answered, but how do Wal-marts that are open 24 hours work Black Friday? I've never been early to Wal-mart. I've always hit Best Buy or Target first. How do they keep people from coming really early and just standing by what they want until 5?![]()
I've been at Wal-Mart first thing for the past several BF's. Here's how it works:
The doorbuster specials are set out on large paletes. Everything is covered up with tarps. You have to get there early to scope out the store. Start asking questions from the sales people like "What's under this tarp?" About 30 minutes before the sale starts, people will start gathering around the tarps. If you are after a certain item, you need to find out where it is covered up and stand there to wait for the unveiling. Promptly at 5:00 am (or whenever the sale begins), Wal-Mart employees will start cutting off the tarps. Get ready for the mad frenzy of grabbing and stampeding! People start grabbing and then running off to find the next item they need. The good stuff is gone within minutes. If you are after a REALLY hot item (like the plasma TV), I'd get there at least 45 min. early to find out where thery are and get right up front to make sure you get one.
It's best to tag-team. If you can go with a friend or two, you can scope out the store, find out where everything is, and then stragegically plant yourselves in different areas of the store next to those palates. Choose a meeting place afterward, or use your cell phones to call each other.
Once you have what your items, get to the check out lanes ASAP so you can pay, leave, and move on to your next shopping adventure. Also, the lines will get long so check out quickly.
I've tried going in the night before to find out where stuff is, but haven't had good luck. Things are just starting to get set up and no one seems to know what is where yet. Things that aren't doorbusters that I also want, I've hidden behind things so that it will be there the next morning.
