BL Summer Challenge 2009

Yes I leave tomorrow afternoon and bedtime I will be in POFQ.

Ever since the weather got hot and humid here in jersey my foot has been swelling. The doctor says this is normal but it has me down. I may have to rent a wheelchair while I am down there. Dh wants me to bring the ugly boot so people don't give me dirty looks when I get up and walk. I don't know what I am going to do.

GOod luck everyone. Keep up the hard work.

Melanie have a safe trip home.

It looks like I am coaching this week (at least until Thursday). Sorry I haven't been around AT ALL lately. I took my laptop on vacation last week and the first day I tried to use it I noticed that my charging cord was broken. Since we were deep in the northern wilds of Maine, I wasn't in a position to replace it. But here I am, back again!

Since I am just returning from vacation, my QOTD will be vacation oriented. Here goes..

When you return home from a vacation, do you unpack immediately and put things away and start the laundry, or do you let it sit a day (or two) while you get back into "normal" mode??

I usually unpack immediately. I can't stand the thought of waking up the next day and seeing that stuff waiting for me. If I am really tired or if it is late, I will usually at least unload the suitcases and put the stuff on top of the dresser and bathroom counters. Yesterday I unpacked it ALL (except for DH's suitcase and DD's suitcase... they can be responsible for themselves), even all of the scrapbooking supplies I brought along. It was so GREAT to wake up this morning and not have that hanging over me!!

On a more WISH-related topic.... I had a really tough time with my eating last week on family vacation. I started the week well... measuring, counting, and keeping my food journal faithfully. By Wednesday I had stopped journaling, by Thursday I had stopped counting and measuring. But I kept up my exercise EVERY DAY, so I didn't completely lose my mind!! I did hop on the scale this morning and had a moderate gain, which made me sad because I had hit a new low number the Friday before we left.... but I know that I will see that number again within the next week or so.... and what a grand number it was.... I am closing in on getting a new number in the "tens" place!!

Again, so sorry I haven't been around lately. I will take the time later today (after I buy a new laptop cord!) to catch up on what has been going on and how every one has been doing..............................P

If dh and I are sharing a suitcase then it gets unpacked immediately since he would do it. If we are not then his is done right away and mine is done a day later.

He should be getting back in a few hours from a camping trip. We have the washer and dryer all cleaned out so he can just throw his stuff in when he gets home. Then he has to pack for our vacation tomorrow. But then again so do I.:scared1: It is only for 4 days so it won't be so bad.

Welcome back pjilla

Is there something else less heavy and ugly you could use to avoid the dirty looks? Maybe gauze or an ace bandage or something cooler? I am sorry that your foot is still swollen. I think some pool time at WDW is just what you need. Have a wonderful time!

Welcome back! Sounds like you had a nice time.

Oh great, I get to be the first one to confess that we put our suitcases on the family room floor and if we are lucky everything is put away in a day or two but it can be as long as a week. :rotfl:

I'm off to watch Wishes on a webcam from BLT to get myself in the Disney spirit.

I didn't get on yesterday, but I'm back today. Yesterday was a day of shopping including buying my own laptop!:cool1: The keyboard has a couple extra keys which are messing me up a little since they are right by the shift and enter keys.

Welcome back pjlla! Thanks for being the coach!:goodvibes

Now to answer the QOTD's
So here's today's question - What one thing do you like to eat when you want something sweet that is fairly good for you, but still fills that "sweet" spot?

sometimes I'll satisfy it with a red or yellow bell pepper. Sometimes I'll satisfy it with a class of milk and a spoonful of peanut butter.:goodvibes

When you return home from a vacation, do you unpack immediately and put things away and start the laundry, or do you let it sit a day (or two) while you get back into "normal" mode??

definitely most of it sits, some of the essentials come out right away because they are needed, but the rest will usually end up waiting. We typically get home late the night before we have to return to work, and so things get left until the following weekend.:goodvibes

sskem - isn't food in restaurants deceptive. Even something that seems the same as you would have at home, has a lot more calories.:confused3

corinnak - that dessert looks yummy!

donac - have a great trip! would an ankle wrap be visible and eliminate the dirty looks while providing some support to your foot?

I still have to install excel onto my new computer and then I'll get all the weigh-in PM's opened and entered! Should be back tomorrow with the reminder email. :goodvibes

Hi all – Well, I finally broke through and lost a pound this week. It still puts me 3 pounds from my lowest, but at least I’m going the right direction now.

corinnak – Yum – That looks soooo good. I will have to try it.

mikamah – Glad to see that Hurricane Bill didn’t come ashore where you are.

princessbride6205 – Thank you for coaching.

sskem96 – Yes, restaurant food very often not is good for us as we think it is.

MelanieC – Wow, 2 weeks in Disney – welcome back to the real world. I love Boma!

donac – Have fun at Disney! I hope your foot doesn’t cause you too much trouble on your trip.

pjlla – Thank you for coaching this week.

LuvBaloo – Where did you get your new laptop? It’s on my list of things to buy, when I finally get a job.

When you return home from a vacation, do you unpack immediately and put things away and start the laundry, or do you let it sit a day (or two) while you get back into "normal" mode??

My DH insist that we unpack everything right away. So all the suitcases get unpacked and the laundry gets started immediately.

QOTD: What is the one thing that you can do to show your family how much you care about them?

I agree that taking of yourself is the 1st thing you have to do. It’s like they say, put the oxygen mask on yourself first and then help others. If you don’t and something happens to you, then you can’t help anybody.

Oh it usually sits. While on the plane home, I always have visions of unpacking right away - but that rarely happens.
I am the queen of starting to unpack, but then the last few items sit in the suitcase on our bedroom floor for 1-3 weeks.

I'm the worst - It can take a long time for me to get unpacked. Part of it is that my drawers are so full, it's not easy to put things away. I really need a clean-outt, but I have such a hard time getting rid of things. Even things that are now too big, it's hard to let them go. I know I should because then there will be room for the "new me" clothes, but the trouble is that I've been down this road before and deep down, I wonder if I am going to backslide again. Part of me says "no way" but part of me says "how do you really know you won't relapse." I think I have to move forward with the belief that it is in my power not to relapse, it is harder to fully relapse if you don't have bigger clothes waiting, and finally, cliche as it sounds, things really are different this time. Something in me is different from the times I've lost and gained back.

Wow - that was a lot of stuff from a question on unpacking! It was on my mind anyway, I guess.

QOTD: What is the one thing that you can do to show your family how much you care about them?

Has anyone else read the Five Love Languages books? Apparently there are 5 main ways that people receive love -

1. Words of Affirmation
2. Gifts
3. Acts of Service
4. Quality Time
5. Physical Touch

And the idea is that it is important to show a person love in the way in which they most easily perceive and receive it. Not to say that you shouldn't do a little of all of these. It may be, though, that my natural way of showing love is Words of Affirmation, but if my DH is an "Acts of Service" guy, all my talking and talking about how special he is to me doesn't get the point across as swiftly as if I make him a surprise cup of tea or hang up his shirts.

My older son is a "words of affirmation" kid. My younger son, I need to go through the quiz again now that he's a little older. I think he may also be an acts of service guy, like his dad.

My kids love it when we read to them. My boys are 4 1/2 years apart, so it's been a challenge to read to them together, as they've been at such different developmental levels, but lately it seems they're able to enjoy a lot of the same books read aloud. It's funny, they still each have "their" book for me to read, and we read a little of each every night. Currently, it's the Junie B. First Grader series for my 6 year old and my 10 year old is enjoying the Mysterious Benedict Society.

Wow! It seems like there are so many people here heading out or back from Disney right now!:worship: Wish I could be there too....and I am only 45 min. away from the mouse.:)

When you return home from a vacation, do you unpack immediately and put things away and start the laundry, or do you let it sit a day (or two) while you get back into "normal" mode??

I unpack and get most, if not all, the laundry washed and put away on the day we arrive home. There are a few times that we get home really late and it has to wait until the next day, but it all gets done then and the suit cases into the attic. I hate clutter and am really bothered when I see the bags just sitting there. Now if I could only do the same thing with the girls messy rooms.........

Thanks guys for all the support this summer. I am off in a few hours.

Wouldn't you know it my ankle has been bugging me all morning. I think it is just the stress of getting reaady. Off to put on the brace.

Have a great week everyone.

We will miss your presence, but have a great time... and don't worry about what others think if you need to use a wheelchair or anything like that.... their negative thoughts are THEIR problem, not yours.

Hi all – Well, I finally broke through and lost a pound this week. It still puts me 3 pounds from my lowest, but at least I’m going the right direction now.

Heading in the right direction is a VERY good thing... excellent job. Push hard for the next few weeks and that three pounds will be gone and then you will be back to your lowest and can keep going from there!

Sorry my appearances have been sketchy. Tough to get back into "home" mode after vacation... plus my kids start school on Wednesday, so we are trying to get things in order and enjoy our last few relaxing summer days! Off for haircuts in a bit, but I wanted to jump on and chat.

Has anyone read any of the "news" about white tea being a metabolism booster? I read lots of various articles about diet/weight loss/metabolism/exercise/healthy eating, etc, etc and white tea keeps popping up in places. So I am giving it a try. I bought a box yesterday (sadly, no decaf) and plan on having a cup each morning to see if I notice any difference. I won't be changing my food or exercise routine significantly, so I'll be curious to see if I notice any difference on the scale.

I also read an article in a women's magazine a few weeks ago about drinking V-8 juice at least once a day in addition to following a reduced calorie diet plan to help boost weight loss. Since I don't mind V-8 I gave it a try for about a week... two or three glasses a day .... I lost a few pounds that week that I didn't really count on, so I am encouraged. I bought an off-brand of vegetable juice last week on vacation and didn't really like it, so I didn't drink it every day, but I'm going to continue to drink at least one glass a day for the next few weeks. I don't mind the taste, it is VERY low in points, it is relatively healthy (I mix the low sodium with the high fiber variety), and it does fill me up a bit, so I see no downside. Anyone try this or see this article?

Okay.... here is my QOTD:

What is your favorite color and how many things/what types of things do you own in that color??

My favorite color is PINK. I own loads of pink clothes (mostly t-shirts and blouses and skirts). I don't own much else pink because I am cheap... I didn't get the pink Razor phone a few years ago because it was $50 more than the regular one. I didn't get a pink laptop because it was extra $$ (although we did just buy DD a laptop and I splurged and spent the extra to get her the pink!). I would drive a pink car if it didn't cost extra for the paint job (and if DH wouldn't be totally humiliated driving it!).

I am just drawn to pink, probably because it is a flattering color for me. I was married in a pink gown because I wanted to be different and because I look washed out in white. I do own some pink kitchen tools, but mostly because they were on clearance at Target. I told you I was cheap!......P

So I binged yesterday for the first time since I went on plan 100 days ago. I knew it was coming on...I even knew how to stop it (by coming on here) but I chose not to stop it but to binge. I felt awful last night. I think I now know why I felt the urge to binge....1 - people are finally starting to notice my weight loss (I don't know why but this usually leads me to binge) 2 - I got to 100 days on plan. Milestones seem to freak me out. I am back on plan today and hoping I can stay there.

QOTD : I unpack immediately and start laundry!

 I think that we have all been there at one point in time or another. The important thing is that you know what triggers the binge and are back OP today. Let this time be your 'lesson learned' and come talk to us right away as soon as you feel it coming on. Maybe reward yourself when you feel the urge. :confused3 Buy a new outfit or even lip gloss or something to make you feel good. Celebrate your milestones and make them happy goals, not stressful, you deserve it for working so hard. I can't wait to be OP for 100 days and have people start noticing weight loss. You are an inspiration!

What is your favorite color and how many things/what types of things do you own in that color??
Mine would be blue, although pink is a close second. All my life I have had tons of blue things- I would pick that color every time. After the birth of my two DD's and my mom's breast cancer, I have been slowly converting to lots of pink/pink ribbons.

And I got my laptop at Staples (Canada).

That sounds interesting. I've never read those, but its in line with some of the dealing with different personalities training I've had a work. Different people are motivated and take direction best in different ways, and its important to use the right style with the right person to get the easiest results.

What is your favorite color and how many things/what types of things do you own in that color??

I haven't read anything about white tea or V8 juice. I may try the white tea, but I can't stand V8 juice.
And my favourite colour is blue. I wore metallic royal blue nailpolish on my toes for graduation, wedding, birth of kids. I have many blue shirts, usually a blue toothbrush, my bedroom is all blue (walls are 2-tone dark and light blue, curtains, bedding is dark blue with sun/moon/stars on it). My 2 girls had a light blue cradle, and their baby bedding/curtains was blue (curtains are sky blue with white clouds).

That's great that you are able to figure out the reason for the binge, and get right back on plan.:thumbsup2
Its really great that people are starting to notice your weightloss, as I recall you saying that you were frustrated a while ago that nobody was noticing.

Just a friendly reminder that if you've forgotten to send your weight in from last week, you've still got a chance to do it. Depending on my evening, results post will go up tonight or tomorrow morning.

What is your favorite color and how many things/what types of things do you own in that color??

My favorite color is yellow. I actually discovered a few years ago that I like the way I look in yellow. Every spring I plant sunflowers to bring more yellow into my life.

Dessert tonight - sugar free Pistachio pudding. YUM!

What is your favorite color and how many things/what types of things do you own in that color??

My sister is the same way with colors, except hers is purple. It is surprising how many purple things you can find.

My favorite color is blue. I love all shades of blue. I have a lot of blue clothes. Our house is painted blue and white -- so was our old house. Our old house had blue carpet, floors, countertop, etc. Apparently I got that out of DH's system because now our house is more golds and earth colors. :rotfl:

pjlla, I heard something about green tea being a metabolism boost. It was actually a study by someone reliable and not the tea lobby of someone like that. I don't know whether it has to be hot tea or if iced tea works.

I do like V8 and can always use some more vegetables. I like the Spicy V8 and spike it with tabasco and pepper or other spices.

Neither one of those things can hurt and they might help!

 to you, Sarah. You've had a tough week so take care of yourself. Wasn't it you last week talking about detours on the road of life? We've all been there.

I love sunflowers, too, disney1990. They seem so happy! :goodvibes

Have a great evening all!

What is your favorite color and how many things/what types of things do you own in that color??
I don't know. I always say blue when I'm asked this question but I'm honestly not sure I have a favorite. :upsidedow

I read something about the vegetable juice and the white tea - I think with the white tea, the caffeine is one contributor to the metabolism boost. I don't remember which magazine either - just little blurbs. Maybe Health?

Yesterday I was at the health food store, exchanging some chia seeds - the first package had webs in it. Yuck. I said I wanted and exchange but could I open the package before I took it - sure enough the second package was fine. As I was checking out with a couple of other items, though, the woman in front of me was talking to the cashier (whom she seemed to know) about the "Flat Belly Diet" that Prevention magazine has been touting for at least the past 10 months. For some reason, anything with the word "belly" in it cracks me up. I would like a flat belly as well, please (:rotfl:) but am not sure that Monounsaturated Fatty Acids (MUFAs) are really the answer.

What is your favorite color and how many things/what types of things do you own in that color??

My longtime favorite color has been Yellow. I have one yellow shirt because I am a "Summer" and most yellows don't look so good on me. Oh, make that 2 yellow shirts. The Kung Fu uniform's shirt is actually goldenrod. :rolleyes1

Really, I have a lot more blue and navy blue and royal blue and denim blue than anything else, though.

Sarah - I also feel a little anxiety about people noticing my weight loss. For me, I think it's that people noticed that I used to look big and now it would be obvious if I were to backslide as well. One of my WWonline friends just posted something on this tonight. She's at goal weight and wrestling with the art of maintenance:

http://community.weightwatchers.com/Blogs/UserBlog.aspx?blogid=1000358

I'm so impressed that you got right back on plan - that is absolutely huge.

Have a great trip, Donac!
