BL Summer Challenge 2009

QOTD - I really like FF sour cream! It adds a lot of flavor for little calories.

I am a bit bummed right now. I was supposed to be weighing in but due to a lady at work calling in sick I get to stay at work so I will be here 16 hours again today (I worked 16 yesterday too). What's worse is that my meeting is closing and this was the last day! I think I will go to one in the next town over that is meeting tomorrow so I can at least weigh in this week!

Sarah

Wow that is a LONG day! I hope you make it to the other WI.

Thursday's QOTD: What are your plans for the weekend and how will you stay on track?

Me - DH has Guard's this weekend, so that day will be easy. Sunday we are supposed to go to my Nephew's birthday party a few hours away, but DD17 recently got a job and they gave her Sunday from 12-3 and she couldn't find anyone she knew (doesn't know too many ppl there yet) to switch. So her and I will now stay home so I can take her. I'll make sure to plan healthy meals for the weekend and I should be ok. It may work out better than going to the party because there won't be any temptations.

Wednesday QOTD: With dieting comes finding "alternative" foods that remind you of foods you can't eat much of or are not healthy. What is your favorite "alternative" food?
Any dessert without too many calories. If I had to give up fried foods, soda & meat forever, I could survive without feeling too deprived. But dessert...giving that up is like losing an arm! In the summer, light ice cream, frozen yogurt, and fruit juice pops are my alternatives. The winter is harder because I crave cookies and I haven't found "light" ones I really like.

LuvBaloo - have you tried Coke Zero? It's much closer to regular Coke than Diet is. I also like the fruit punch Crystal Light - reminds me of the red Kool Aid. :thumbsup2

Thursday QOTD: Weekend plans
None! We've had a few fun weekends in a row now of plans and get-togethers. This weekend we'll veg, enjoy playing outside, and do some organizing/cleaning out of stuff (Goodwill, etc.) To stay on track, we'll eat meals at home and I will exercise each day. I've got to step it up - I told you guys how my mom made treats each day for DD's birthday. Well, this coincided with time-of-the-month, so I have been eating way too much of it. I'm getting back on track, but haven't exactly tossed all the leftover treats. So basically, I've been on track all day until the evening when I snack on treats. Seriously though, after this weigh in, back on plan!

Thursday's QOTD: What are your plans for the weekend and how will you stay on track?

Busy weekend for me. Monday is a stat holidays, and I've booked Friday off so its a 4-day weekend:banana: We are going camping with my parents, which we do once a year. DH doesn't really like camping (he misses his technology:lmao:) but he likes it better now that we've gotten kayaks. I know I'm going to eat imperfectly, but it should all balance out with extra activity. My mom is very supportive of my weightloss attempt and generally eats well herself, so there will be lots of veggies, plus the regular camping food.;)

LuvBaloo - have you tried Coke Zero? It's much closer to regular Coke than Diet is. I also like the fruit punch Crystal Light - reminds me of the red Kool Aid. :thumbsup2

I haven't tried it because I thought it had zero caffeine, and I wanted the caffeine. I'll have to check it out next time I'm in the store.
I've been buying McCain's strawberry kiwi frozen juice which is lo-cal because of artificial sweetener; its very refreshing on a hot day. The whole family likes it.:thumbsup2

I have been following this thread a little, started my weight loss afrer reading a few posts over Memorial Day Weekend.. At the time, weighed in at 244 and was tired of looking in the mirror at such a slob.. As a 41 year old man, decided enough is enough, and here I am..

Currently, at 214 lbs, just reaching my first goal of being below 215, thus making me simply overweight instead of obese according to the BMI scale...:rotfl:

My next goal is 200 by Labor Day, its going to be tough and I am a little concerned that I won't reach it, but we shall see... Final goal is to get below 180, hopefully by Jan 1, if not certainly by our Disney trip in June 2010..

Right now I am on a 1800 calorie diet and walking 8 miles a day, 4 in the morning and 4 at night..

:wave2: Hi SeedsLuvDisney! :wave2:
Sounds like your have a successful summer of losing.:thumbsup2
You're welcome, to officially join our challenge if you'd like to, just PM me your weight on Fridays. There's still 6 weigh-ins left! The more people the merrier around here ::yes::.
That takes dedication to walk twice a day!

:goodvibesGood luck to all our losers with our weigh in day! I'm hoping to see a loss tomorrow. I manage to have some flex points left over, and not use any activity points, so hopefully I'll get some results. :goodvibes

Hi Loosers Well i have some good news I have reached my goal of 175 pounds this week. I did my weigh-in last night and when i saw how much I weighed I was sooo happy I cried . I am sooo :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes:):):)

Wow, Ron! That was quick! You've been working so hard and it's great that it has paid off for you. Any chance of before/after photos?

I'm down 1.4 this week - a shocker since there were two buffets and two other eating outs and my mother was visiting and my long run got very stunted when at mile 2, I got a call that my son had a nasty splinter that he wanted only me to fix. Someone came and picked me up!! I am the proud new owner of the 35 clippie. :dance3:

Thursday's QOTD: What are your plans for the weekend and how will you stay on track?

.
We are going to the beach tomorrow with my bro, sil, and niece and they are who we booked our november wdw trip with, and we are all higher than we were 3 years ago when we all went together, so I am planning to pack healthy snacks only, and bring a lunch. When we get together with them, we usually can inspire each other to be healthier, so that's what I'm planning. Especially since we only have 3 month left til wdw.

Currently, at 214 lbs, just reaching my first goal of being below 215, thus making me simply overweight instead of obese according to the BMI scale...:rotfl:
..
Welcome, and congratulations!! That is a fabulous loss. Nice work!

:woohoo:That clippie looks marvelous on you!! Congrats!!

Shannon- have a wonderful time camping. Sounds like you have a good plan to enjoy some yummy camping foods, but increasing the activity will all balance out. This weekend here is supposed to be beautiful, so hope where you are is the same.

I'm up a little, but not giving up. Every day is a new day, and I'm trying to focus on what I'm doing right. One day at a time.

Good luck everyone!! Looks like so far it's a successful day for the losers here, and even if we go the wrong way, as long as we keep on trying, we are being successful. Have a great day!!:)

I thought these lines of yours are quote-worthy! Have a great time at the beach!

I am very happy to report that I'm down 2.7 from last week! Its also happens to be 0.7 less than my lowest number back in June when I started doing my 2lb yo-yo'ing.:dance3::yay:

Thanks to MelanieC for being last weeks coach, and thanks to Sahbushka who will be coaching this week!

I'm heading off camping, and will check back in on Monday. Have a great weekend everybody!:goodvibes

Good morning all! My name is Sarah and I will be your Coach for the week! I have never coached before so please bare with me! I think I will start off with the Question of the Day as that is one of MY favorite parts!

QOTD: Someone else on the thread mentioned before and after pics. Now, I am not asking you to post them (unless you want to in which case we would love to see!:goodvibes) but do you take them? How do they help you? Do you have them posted somewhere?

As for me, yes, I have taken before and during pics (can't say after because I am a work in progess!) I took pics my first day on WW. I did front, side and back shots...the side one is the one that really shocked me :scared1:. Now I take progress pics every 6 weeks! My next ones are this coming week! I am really hoping to be able to see the difference. I know I don't normally post numbers, but I have lost 29.8 lbs since the challenge began but no one has really been able to notice yet! It is frustrating, but I take the pictures so that I can see the progress from a different angle if you will! I have my first one (the side shot) posted in my journal which I take everywhere and record my food in. Seeing the picture helps keep me on track because I know I don't want to go back to the way I was. It is a great reminder of how easy it is to go back there and how much I don't want to.

Have a great day losers and lets make this the best week ever! What do you say? Shall we all commit to trying to lose or maintain this week? Can we get our numbers to go down? Let's not have another week where our group had an overall gain instead of loss! We can do it!!!! Just have to do some of this....:yay::cheer2: :dance3: and not too much of this popcorn::!

Wow! Great job! I imagine I will probably cry if I ever see that number on the scale too! Congrats on a fabulous job! So are you going to be trying to maintain from here? How do you feel? Is it where you want to be?...not just number wise, but looks and feel and size wise?

Fantastic! Way to go on getting your 35 clippie...I am .2 away from my 30 clippie so am looking forward to getting that (hopefully next week!) It must feel so good!

Have fun at the beach! How nice to be around water all day! Bummer about being up but great job on not giving up! I heard a great quote last night that I think may work....it goes "The road to success is ALWAYS under construction!"

Yes, thanks to MelanieC for coaching this past week, and to all our coaches that have helped us along this challenge so far!

Just a reminder to get your weight for the week to LuvBaloo! Have a great day and don't forget to drink your water!

Oh yeah, weigh in. I had a small loss this week, but hey, it was a loss and I was expecting too much as last week I had a GREAT loss! Next week will be even better, I am sure! With hard work and determination anything is possible!

Sarah

I do plan to maintain the weight Loss. In fact while i am on Vavation in 2 weeks I plan to do some walking around Downtown Delaware Ohio durring my time off from work and will stay away from the Junck food and Fast foods except for the Grill Chicken from KFC But i will just eat there one day durring my Vacation. And I will walk on my Mom's Treadmill for 45 minutes.

Weigh in - well, I'm up 1.4 lb - but I'm okay with that. I went a little crazy this week eating treats, so I was expecting a 2 lb gain. I am determined to lose 2 pounds this week, so that I'll be under what I was last week.

QOTD: Before and after pics?
Not specifically. I kind of wish I had done it, but I've lost enough with this challenge to see some difference every day in the mirror. Actually photos of myself at Christmas are the reason I started on a weight loss journey. I was upset at how big I looked. I feel like I look closer to what I want to look like now, but still have a little ways to go so that I fit in more of my old clothes. My closet has been my version of before and after. What fits? Digging out some older items has been awesome - it's like free shopping!

I hope to do that over my Vacation I will let you know

I love 'shopping' in the closet! Found another shirt to add into my 'rotation'. :lmao:

I forgot to weigh in this morning, so I'll do it tomorrow and PM Shannon. I suspect a small gain, as I still haven't really stocked in enough healthy supplies. There were a few french frie related incidents this past week. (Eating grilled chicken and corn right now though!)

I haven't taken any 'before' pictures specifically, but have lots of current photos. Posted a picture right after my 15 pound mark on my cruise thread and could see a difference in that one though...it sure felt good.

Keep the faith everyone!

Good Morning everyone. I have just read through the thread that I have missed this week. It has been a pretty busy week for everyone.

I am sorry that I have not been around this last week.

I had a class 4 days this week. Math teachers from the midddle, high school and elementary got together to talk about math, how we can help each other and some new ways to teach the students. It was very interesting. We also watched some video of a student done about students from the time they were in 2nd grade until they graduated. It was fun to watch them grow.

Wed I went and visited with dbil and dsil and our neice and nephews. They were staying at a beach house on the jersey shore. My sons went down earlier to do the water park and the boardwalkl. We went down to have dinner and talk. We had a nice night and it didn't rain until we finished dinner and were getting ready to ride home. Luckily it didn't rain too hard.

Thursday night I went out with some girlfriends. We all have taught together. 4 of them are now retired so I don't get to see them too much. Several of them were also my supervisor at one time or another. It was great to see them all and catch up. We chatted about all the crazy people we have had in our department over the years. WE talked for over 3 hours. We had a great dinner at a local italian restaurant. I was pretty proud of myself. I wanted dessert so I left most of my pasta from my main course (I ate all the seafood, which was not fried)

I have been to physical therapy twice.. I went on Thursday and I think I over did it. My foot has been swollen for the last day. It is mostly muscle ache so I know it is not from the surgery but from pt. It will get better. I go again on Monday.

Dh left for summer camp this morning and will be back next Friday night. We have a wedding to go to on Sat morning. I have one more day until I get my car back. I loaned it ot my dbil for their week here. UNfortunately to get it back I have to drive them to the airport at 6AM:scared1: What was I thinking when I agreed to this. BUt it has been strange not having a car. ds2 loaned me his car for most of the week so that I could get to class but he needs his for work today. I guess I am stuck at the house today. Sounds like a good day to sew.

Have a great day everyone. Congrats on all the losers.

Congrats on the closet shopping! How fun! And that is so great that you can see a difference in the pictures! I am hoping that is true for me in September when I am at DL with my family...I started trying to lose after a mothers day weekend trip to Reno to visit a friend!:scared1: Yeowsa that was scary!

Sounds like you made some decent choices...good job! That really shows that we are learning to rethink things in our daily lives~

QOTD: Do you ever notice that some days are way easier to stay on plan than others? What do you do at the start of your days that help make sure you stay on plan all day?

For me it is Diet Pepsi. If I have soda in the morning, even if it is the one that I allow myself per day, it will throw me off for the whole day. I have to start with water and have all the water I need to have in a day before having a Diet Pepsi and then I usually do a lot better staying op.

Have a great day everyone, and don't forget to drink that water~
