BL Summer Challenge 2009

Sounds like everyone can deffinitely see a benifit in doing what they are doing! Keep up the great work!

Sorry this is late, but it is now time for the....

QOTD: Do you tend to eat the same things almost everyday? How do you think that helps or hinders you? Do you think you are more likely to "burnout" because of it?

I do eat the same things almost every day...lean pockets, oatmeal, cheese stick, apple. Dinner I usually mix up and try new things though so I think this helps me stay on track because it is familiar, I enjoy it and it is easy but I also am changing things around and experimenting with new tastes and textures through dinners at least once a week. This is the reason I don't think I will "burn out" because I am keeping it fresh.

Have a great op day!
Sarah

QOTD: Do you tend to eat the same things almost everyday? How do you think that helps or hinders you? Do you think you are more likely to "burnout" because of it?

I do tend to eat the same thing for breakfast and lunch because they are usually what I pack in my lunch bag. I too change up dinner. Dr Oz (from Oprah) feels that this a a great way to diet since you then only have to think about 1 meal a day.

I'm back at work this morning, after a busy camping weekend. I did manage to eat lots of veggies, and get lots of activity in, so I think I did okay. I thought about getting up early enough today to do a morning weigh-in and see how I did, but I decided sleep was more important, and my plan is to stay within my daily points until Friday no matter what the scale said today. We had great weather, sunny and hot:cool1: We noticed that we went through less food between the heat and the campfire ban.

QOTD: Someone else on the thread mentioned before and after pics. Now, I am not asking you to post them (unless you want to in which case we would love to see!:goodvibes) but do you take them? How do they help you? Do you have them posted somewhere?

I did do some before pictures in a black string bikini, which I will never wear in public, but is very good to judge my progress. I don't have them posted anywhere or look at them regularly, but they exist. The main thing I use to judge progress is notches in my belt. I went down in notches on one belt, and had to go buy a smaller belt a while ago :thumbsup2

QOTD: Do you ever notice that some days are way easier to stay on plan than others? What do you do at the start of your days that help make sure you stay on plan all day?

For me, its always easier to stay on plan when there's groceries in the house, and the kitchen is clean.

QOTD: We may have had something similar to this before but....What is your favorite "must have" food item at Disney? When you go next are you not going to have it at all....have a bite....or have as much as you want because "hey, I'm on vacation!"

The only must have Disney food for me, is at DL the Bengal BBQ. I love the meat skewers and the bacon-wrapped asparagus skewers.:goodvibes

QOTD: So it seems that we are having mixed results this summer. What is one thing that you notice, whether you have lost or gained this summer, that is a step closer to being the person you want to be (ie, full faster, better choices, more movement, etc.)

While I haven't had the weight loss I wanted, I have noticed that I'm eating better without thinking about it. I'm not wanting the bad foods as often (like potato chips) and when I am "BAD" for my eating its not as bad as what was normal before.

QOTD: Do you tend to eat the same things almost everyday? How do you think that helps or hinders you? Do you think you are more likely to "burnout" because of it?

I tend to eat a lot of some things and mix up other things. DH & I do like to try and experiment a little bit with food, and our choices have been expanding.

WEIGHTKEEPER UPDATE:
I haven't got to all the PM's yet, so no reminder to report in for anybody this week. I'll get to all the PM's tonight and post the results!

Welcome back LuvBalloo! It sounds like your trip was fun but not TOO fun! ;)

QOTD: Do you tend to eat the same things almost everyday? How do you think that helps or hinders you? Do you think you are more likely to "burnout" because of it?

I have a lot of familiar "regular" meals, but sometimes I do get into a rut or routine, depending on how you look at it. Oatmeal for breakfast. Bean burrito salad for lunch and pasta or something for dinner. It is easy because you don't have to figure out how much of it you can have and for how many points/cals, which is a time saver and a comfort.

I do think that if it's the same foods over and over, that is no way to live for years on end. Though I and many other people like to have the same thing for breakfast each day regardless of weight loss plans.

And woops - did I miss this one??

QOTD: Someone else on the thread mentioned before and after pics. Now, I am not asking you to post them (unless you want to in which case we would love to see!) but do you take them? How do they help you? Do you have them posted somewhere?

I have never intentionally taken "before" pictures. I have never wanted to really examine just how bad the situation was before losing a few pounds. I was just so mortified to have let myself get there. :sad2: That said, I have not always managed to avoid the camera, and clearly did not avoid it during the half marathon, when I was at my heaviest weight in quite a while. I do think it is a little ironic that my "before" pictures are from a half marathon, though. :rotfl: I also think it reminds me that I NEVER want to run another half marathon at that weight ever, ever again.

You can see them if you want to, but I warn you, it is not a pretty sight! I'm the one in WISH green.

http://www.asiorders.com/view_user_event.asp?EVENTID=40337&BIB=36440&LNSEARCH=1

You can see the photos from my most recent race (just last weekend!) in my much neglected journal:

http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=32941053&postcount=513

I am not yet to goal, but I believe the difference is clear although I am wearing the same shirt. I am looking forward to comparing the 2009 half marathon photos with the 2010 half marathon photos, too.

Welcome back LuvBaloo! We missed you around here! Glad you had a good time on vacation! I love your attitude!

Well, I went on my job interview and it seemed to go well. I won't know anything one way or the other until at least Thursday.

So, it seemed to go well until she started talking about specifics. I would have my own office (after years in a cubicle), you get 45 minutes for lunch, you work 7-3/4 hours and get paid for 8, you get 7 holidays (not too bad). Now here's the big one (now this is a 45 year old well established company that she said was doing well) you get a TOTAL of 10 days of sick, vacation and personal days. WHAT!!!! After you go to the GYN, get a Mamo, go to the dentist, maybe get sick a day - you have 5 days left to actually go on a vacation.

Well, like I said, I won't know anything until Thursday, but (even after 6 months of being unemployed) this may be a deal breaker or I may accept the job and work it for a year and hope the economy gets better. You see, I don't fly, so just getting to Disney from Maryland takes a day each direction and what fun is having a job if I can't go to Disney?

Anyway -- just thought I would share what happened? Anybody want to give me your thoughts on this???

Disney1990
Here's my thoughts on the job thing. If everything except the vacation/sick/personal days is good, then I'd take the job and still keep looking. Many people find that once they take that first job, then more offers come along. In the meantime, you're back saving money for vacations.:goodvibes

Here we celebrate our progress and recognize our superstars for Week 11 of our BL Summer Challenge!

Week 11 Biggest Loser!!

#1-2.23%- SpaceMtnFan:banana::banana:

This summer challenge has been a struggle for some of us (including me). With 6 weigh-ins left, there's still lots of time. Remember to stay positive, be proud of your successes and learn from your mistakes.

Here's a couple of quotes I found for this week:

Mark Twain:
Habit is habit and not to be flung out of the window by any man, but coaxed downstairs a step at a time.

Ellen Degeneres:
You have to stay in shape. My grandmother, she started walking five miles a day when she was 60. She's 97 today and we don't know where the hell she is.

(This one isn't particularly motivating, it just makes me laugh!:lmao:)

Congratulations SpaceMtnFan!!! And a special congratulations on reaching your goal weight! We have a very special clippie reserved for our weekly Biggest Loser.

Corinna - thanks for sharing the pictures. You look so happy as you're running! And those pictures are great for showing how well you are doing!:cool1:

I went shopping yesterday and got a new pair of shorts and 2 new shirts, and I didn't have to go to the "plus" section to get them! Yeah!! It's been a while since I've been able to get a XL shirt from the regular sizes because I carry all my weight in my stomach.
:thumbsup2Congrats on your new clothes!! What a great feeling.

QOTD: We may have had something similar to this before but....What is your favorite "must have" food item at Disney? When you go next are you not going to have it at all....have a bite....or have as much as you want because "hey, I'm on vacation!"
Mickey ice cream bar. When I am there, I have more of a Hey, I'm on vacation attitude, but try to drink lots of water, and stay away from fried foods. I have found the damage to be only a few pounds after vacation, but what kills me is that when I come home, I will continue to eat in vacation mode, and then gain more very quickly. It's getting right back on track that saves me.

QOTD: So it seems that we are having mixed results this summer. What is one thing that you notice, whether you have lost or gained this summer, that is a step closer to being the person you want to be (ie, full faster, better choices, more movement, etc.)
I have not been very successful, but find that because I haven't given up totally, and do come check in once in a while, there are days that I am eating more healthfully than I would be if I completely gave up. I've been getting a little exercise in also. Better than none.

Hey everyone - WOW I can't believe we leave in 3 days!! Today went so fast - Yeah!!

Here is my plan for Disney. I'm expecting to gain some, but if I come home I will drop some of the water weight usually 4 pounds is easy water weight to lose. I am planning to drink unsweetened iced tea or water while I'm there instead of soda (most years I end up having one soda and then crave it the whole time). I'm not dieting, and will eat desserts sometimes not all the time (The second 9 nights we have the free dining so I will eat desserts then). I am going to buy Kashi bars for breakfast or I'm even thinking about not worrying about breakfast since we eat lunch at 11:30am most days depending on the restaurant. By the time we get up and get to the park we ride a few rides and its time for lunch. Dinners are filling, so it may not be that bad to skip breakfast in this instant (I'm not a big fan of skipping breakfast). Saving 200-300 calories each day, will add up over 18 days. I also will be having tons of calories the rest of the day, so I'm sure my body won't be to terribly upset if I don't feed it first thing.
Sounds like an awesome plan melanie!! Have a fabulous trip!:cloud9:
QOTD: Do you tend to eat the same things almost everyday? How do you think that helps or hinders you? Do you think you are more likely to "burnout" because of it?

Sarah
usually I eat the same things most days. I tend to go in spurts, and will try and make a big meal with lots of leftovers, and that helps to keep me on track for 3-4 days.

Disney1990

I agree with this, disney1990. That is not very many days off, but I wonder if you would be able to take a week without pay at some point. Something you could save for and plan. I'm glad the interview went well, and hope you get the job.

Congratulations to all the biggest losers this week!!!:cool1::banana::cool1:

I think it's fabulous to see so many people still losing weight this summer. It is such a tough time to stay on track normally. At weight watchers around memorial day they said if you didn't continue to come through the summer, you were more than likely to gain between 10-15 pounds when you came back in september.

I thought I'd share, every now and then I enter a pic to allears photo of the week, and I just got my newsletter and my picture won this week. Put a big smile on my face this morning. I showed my son, and he said what did you win? Um, my picture is on a disney website!! He didn't get it.

Thank you so much Shannon for all your hard work with the weightkeeping. Sounds like a successful camping weekend. Too bad about the campfire ban, but no smores tempting ya.

Have a great day everyone.:)

Hi all. Sometimes I think we get so rushed that we don't think about the little things....sooooooooo on that note........

QOTD: How are you? Do you have anything fun planned for the day? Are you happy, sad, angry, tired?

As for me, I am still a bit tired from the overtime I have been working but I am feeling better after 8 hours sleep last night. I am happy that the weather is cooling off....fall is my favorite time of year! I am excited to be going to a sleepover tonight! It is with my 3 best friends and the last time we had a sleep over was the night before my wedding 7.5 years ago! I am nervous about staying on plan while I am at the sleepover....chocolate/peanut butter fondu and margaritas....need I say more? I am sad that I haven't seen much of my kids lately and that because my youngest has been so cranky lately that I haven't had a chance to spend a lot of quality time with my 4 year old....I can tell he is missing me so I am hoping to plan something special for just him and I to do soon. I am pleased with my weight loss so far. I feel really good about how far I have come in the past 12 weeks. I am bummed that the loss is still not noticable to others but feel confident that it will be soon. I am hopeful for my husband finding a new job and excited for him as he registers for classes to become a personal trainer. I never imagined that I would be married to a personal trainer!

Have a great day all!

Sarah

Hi all, I have been away from the thread for awhile. Life has been so busy. Mostly my work life. I'm an office manager for an auto dealership. We are not large, about 30 employees, but the work load for me has increased A LOT. My office clerk had been out with neck surgery since Jan, came back to work for a couple of weeks and found that she was unable to continue the job and quit. So I am now a 1 person office and with the CARS.gov program, I'm beyond busy. But busy is good. the day flies by.

I have missed so many QOTD so I will start again with this one...

Hi all. Sometimes I think we get so rushed that we don't think about the little things....sooooooooo on that note........

QOTD: How are you? Do you have anything fun planned for the day? Are you happy, sad, angry, tired?

I'm feeling pretty good today, as I have been the past few days. I have concluded that I need to plan my days eating the night before. If I know what I have planned in advance I do much better.

My fun today is that the local Fiesta celebration starts today. It runs from Wed-Sun and has been a celebration here for years. The big parade is Friday, which I will miss this year as we are going to DL this Friday-Sunday. We are AP holders, but stay way during the summer months. But I need to catch the new Fantasmic and firework show, so off we go. Got a great deal on hotel (off property) 45.00 at the Marriott.:yay:

I've got a backlog of QOTDs to answer!

QOTD: How are you one step closer to the person you want to be?
Ooh, interesting question. Appearance-wise, I am one clothing size closer to the person I want to be. ;) Eating smaller meals has become routine for me - I definitely feel full faster. I also can't imagine going back to being a couch potato! I had always been an active person, but for about a year before this challenge, I was a lump. I have excuses, but they aren't that great. Even if I'm not as physically fit as I would like, I know I'll keep moving.

QOTD: Eat the same foods?
I have a few foods I rotate between for lunch and about 2 I switch between for breakfast. Dinners are more varied. I do like trying new foods and new recipes, especially for dinner, but that takes time and energy!

QOTD: How are you? Do you have anything fun planned for the day? Are you happy, sad, angry, tired?
I'm okay today. I'm feeling motivated and relatively postivie in my personal life, but not so much at work. Morale is pretty low in my workplace, so when I don't have deadlines and really important stuff on my To Do list, I procrastinate. Nothing planned today, except walking at lunch.

Today, I'm planning to take the kids to the lake after work, we'll grab some McDonalds (I can eat the Thai salad for 8points) and go have a bit of fun. I am still tired from camping and slept lousy last night, so I know I'll be easily irritated and feeling lazy at home tonight. I should go home and do housework/laundry, but I think it'll be a smoother night if I go do something fun with the kids.:goodvibes

Sarah - Maybe the people who see you everyday aren't noticing the difference because its gradual. Eventually everybody will see it. (If I remember correctly) I think you had some pants that were really tight when we started this challenge, if you still have them, go back and try them on and show your DH how they are fitting better. Even if you have to point it out to him, he'll then see the difference and give you some positive enforcement.:thumbsup2

Sarah

For most of my life the answer would have been "have as much as I want because I'm on vacation!" But I know where that mentality got me. So I have definitely changed my attitude over the last few years. I no longer look at vacation (any kind of vacation) as an excuse to overindulge without limit. My change in attitude came with our April 2008 WDW trip and it was a HUGE change. I did indulge but kept myself mostly under control. I did gain a few pounds, but I got back on plan IMMEDIATELY upon returning home and didn't look back. When I wanted a treat, I got something small or shared with one of my kids. When I craved a mickey bar, I ate the ear from my kid's bar and that was usually enough to satisfy my craving. I shared a caramel apple with DD. Mickey ice cream bars and caramel apples are my special Disney foods.

QOTD: So it seems that we are having mixed results this summer. What is one thing that you notice, whether you have lost or gained this summer, that is a step closer to being the person you want to be (ie, full faster, better choices, more movement, etc.)
Sarah

I am MOVING! I have kept up faithfully with my exercise this summer. Sure, there have been a few days here and there where I just didn't fit it in, but overall I have done GREAT this summer. I exercised for over 1400 minutes during the month of July. And I am DEFINITELY making better food choices, especially when I am away from home.

QOTD: Do you tend to eat the same things almost everyday? How do you think that helps or hinders you? Do you think you are more likely to "burnout" because of it?
Sarah

I definitely don't eat the same thing every day. My foods change, especially with the seasons. Sure, I get bored sometimes... but when I do I take a peek at an old food journal (I've kept them religiously since 01/2008) and see what I was eating during a particularly successful weight-loss week and sometimes I rediscover a great food or recipe that I forgot about.

QOTD: How are you? Do you have anything fun planned for the day? Are you happy, sad, angry, tired?

Sarah

Sorry to be replying so late. Nothing in particular planned for today. Just DS and I home part of this week. He did some extra chores today for money to buy a new Wii game. I did chores too while he was working. After lunch we drove to the mall to pick up his new game. I am in a fine mood... not particularly joyous... just averagely happy... not too tired and definitely not sad!

Once again I will apologize for being MIA so much lately. DS and I were away last week until Wed.... then on Thurs. I drove to MA to pick up DD from SIL's house. Then DD celebrated her birthday on Friday My parents came up over the weekend to celebrate DD's birthday and to bring her home with them. DH is away for work right now, so it is just DS and I. He is going to visit my parents next week and DD and I are heading to Baltimore for Mother/Daughter time. We get home on Wed. night and then we leave for our family vacation on Saturday. I keep packing/unpacking/washing/repacking!

The hotel I got in Baltimore (on Priceline) looks really nice, but no free internet, so I probably won't even take my laptop (unless I want to use it to watch a movie or exercise DVD). So I DEFINITELY will be out of touch most of next week. I will try to pop on over the next few days, until I go away on Sunday, to keep up with everyone's news.....................P

Today I am having a good but busy day -- too much work, but a few accolades there, so at least not totally unpleasant. I also got my WDW reservation in Jan. down to it's lowest level -- AAA rate, standard view. I saved about $250 over my original reservation, so I'm very pleased! :woohoo:

I wasn't going to reply this morning but after seeing this question I knew I had to answer.

QOTD: How are you? Do you have anything fun planned for the day? Are you happy, sad, angry, tired?

Yesterday was a crazy day. I took my parents to have lunch with relatives. They have been meeting with my dm's sis and dd's sis once a month for the past 12 years (since my grandmother died) Well they are getting older and we don't want them driving the hour and a half so my sister has been doing it for the past 18 months while she has been unemployed. Well she got a job last month :banana: and she couldn't go this month. SO since I am off for the rest of the summer I volunteered to take them yesterday. We had a good time and it didn't rain much on the ride home but it was the entire day taken up. My mother was in a talky mood so she and I never stopped talking for most of the ride.

Now for the bad part of the day. Yesterday was my 31st anniversary. I knew dh was going to be away but we are going to celebrate when we are in DW at the end of the month. Dh called and we talked before I left. The part that hurt was that no, not even my sons remembered my anniversary. My neice remembered because my twin sister talked to her yesterday morning and reminded her. That reminded mother but none of my other sisters and none of my dh's family remembered. BUT the worst was that my sons never remembered:headache::headache:

Sorry to be a downer. I have to get past this. I need to clean the house today and go to physical therapy. Then maybe this afternoon I can do something fun. Have a great day everyone. Keep up the good work.

Dona -- Please don't feel so bad. I really think it would have been more odd if two young college men remembered their parents anniversary! Most men can barely remember their own, when it comes to someone else's, even their parents, it's unlikely! The reason most parents get cards is the son's wife sent it! I know it was hurtful to you, and I am sorry for that. :grouphug: I hope today is much better for you, and I know with the fantastic anniversary celebration trip you have coming up, good things are on your horizon! ::yes::

Oh, and I forgot to say, Happy Anniversary!!! Congratulations on 31 years, and two very accomplished sons!

Maria :upsidedow

Good morning, losers! :goodvibes

Wow! I had a lot to catch up on from being in Iowa!

Congrats to SpaceMtnFan for getting to goal -- you worked so hard this year and it paid off! :thumbsup2

:welcome: to SeedsLuvDisney!

Congratulations, corinnak, on your new clippie! :cool1:

Thanks Melaniec for coaching last week and have a wonderful time on your Disney trip! :flower3:

Thanks to sahbushka for being our coach this week!

Thanks LuvBaloo for being our weightkeeper and congrats on the big loss last week! :cheer2: I like the quotes in the results. :)

 to donac for your sons forgetting your anniversary. Those kind of things don't mean as much to them as it does to us -- they will probably be mortified when they figure it out. :scared1: A big congratulations on celebrating 31 years of marriage -- that is a big accomplishment and one you should be proud of! :yay:

Hi all. Sometimes I think we get so rushed that we don't think about the little things....sooooooooo on that note........

QOTD: How are you? Do you have anything fun planned for the day? Are you happy, sad, angry, tired?

I am tired today. I had a great time on my vacation but caught a bad case of bronchitis the last couple of days and had a little trip to the local ER. I am improving and was happy to sleep in my own bed last night. :cloud9: I am also happy because it looks like I maintained on vacation but I will wait to see what the scale says tomorrow to officially celebrate.

I am always a little sad when I come back from vacation but find if I have another trip or two in the works, I feel better. I will be at DL in less than three weeks for my rescheduled June trip so have lots of motivation to work really hard to be ready to walk around the parks on a hot day!

Have a great OP day all!
