Cross post from families forum - hoping to get some feedback!!!

Hi there! I have been reading about birthday celebrations at Disney. I have read about very extravagant brithdays put on at resorts. We will be in WDW for my DD's 6th birthday (staying at Pop Century) and I want it to be as special as possible. I have a few surprises of my own planned for her actual b-day as well as eat at CRT, etc. Can I expect anything from the resort??? I assume that the more expensive resorts do more extravagant stuff but has anyone had an experience at the "value" resorts???

Thanks so much!

Sometimes WDW does nothing and that is at value all the up the deluxe resorts. There are just too many people celebrating special occasions for everyone to get something.

So just plan and pay for your own celebration. If WDW does something as a surprise then you were sprinkled with pixie dust. Don't go expecting something or you may be disapointed.

I know they sell birthday cakes at the food court at POP. DD surprised me with one last year and it was really good.

Edited to say that the only time we've gotten anything from the resorts for birthdays is when we stayed concierge. I know others have reported differently, but I'd plan on doing everything myself, just in case.

We stayed at POR in April for my dad's b-day. Nothing was initiated by Disney at the resort.

WDW Florist has wonderful gifts for kids, can customize anything - within reason, anc can have the item(s) be delivered to ANY resort on WDW property.

I'm 100% with Safetymom on this one. If you want to celebrate, don't leave it up to the fates. It sounds like you already have some wonderful things planned, so I'm not sure what you're anticipating the resort doing for you. I guess I've missed some of those posts that you mentioned about DIS'ers receiving extravagent stuff. The ones I've seen have mentioned possibly a bunch of balloons, or an autographed character card. We usually stay in deluxe resorts and one time we did receive a card congratulating us on our anniversary and the bottle of champagne that I had pre-ordered ended up being complimentary. That's one time out of many WDW trips.

For the balloons, as Pooh mentioned, you can contact the Disney florist. They do a great job. Perhaps if you're planning on CRT, you could purchase a Disney princess dress for her to wear. We did this for my DD's birthday a few years ago and she was thrilled. I went through a park shopping service that wrapped and delivered the gifts to the resort. I noticed that their website is no longer available, but you might want to take a look at Gifts of a Lifetime or contact the Disney Merchandise department for direct shopping @ 407-363-6200. In the past, I've also done shopping at home, wrapped the presents and then shipped them down to the resort ahead of time. Lots of options for you.

We stayed at POP for our wedding anniversary. My husband let his BF who is a CM make the ressies ( for the CM discount). She told them it was our anniversary. We came back to the room to change for dinner and found a "signed" picture of Beauty and the Beast with a small bouquet of latex ballons. The fact it was our anniversary was noted on the ressies.

She also made our dinner PS that night and had it noted on the PS. They gave us a free dessert.

My advice is to tell them it is a birthday and see what happens you never know.

We were surrpised because we didnt know she had told them about the anniversary.

can you have a cake, champagne or some other gift delivered through the asmo guest services/room service to a guest room? we have family staying there & i would love to have something waiting for them.

You could look into the Disney florist for some of your items or also check out this link that I had bookmarked, The Perfect Gift. Shirley is a frequent poster over on the cruise boards and has gotten great feedback on her cruise gift baskets. That may be another option for you.

Thanks for all the thoughts. I am definitely not (and have never been) counting on WDW to make my DD's birthday special - I was just curious to know what everyone's experiences have been. I guess it is just the luck of the draw so to speak! I have lots of little surprises planned throughout the day/trip and I am SOOOOOOOO excited that I couyld bust!! lol

Thanks again for all the info.
