been reading about birthday 'parties' available at certain places.
anyone have any experiences with this? it would be just my family and i'd be just a picture taker.

Well it depends what you are interested in. There are a lot of new options with the new theme.

If you just want the birthday party at Plaza Inn, you pay per person I believe. You have to call disney dining for a priority reservation. Here is info from the website:

You can also have a cake delivered or a birthday bucket delivered at a sit down restaurant or character meal.
