We will be going on our first trip home to VWL at the end of August. While we are there it will be my DS 9th birthday. Wondering what kind of special things we can plan for that day. Everyone always has great tips and suggestions here.

I'm not sure about what special activities you might want to plan, but I would definitely let the staff at WL/VWL know when you check in. I think they have had buttons or something in the past to let the CM's around the "World" know that a birthday guest was present.

Heck, you might even want to let MS know now. They'll probably put it in that magic computer of theirs.

Sounds like your son will have the kind of 9th birthday that we would have all loved. :D

My DD turned 7 on our last trip. We contacted the front desk and asked if they do anything special for birthdays. They delivered helium balloons and a card autographed by her favorite princess while we were at the parks.

We had breakfast at Cindy's and got a birthday badge at City Hall in MK which had "It's my birthday today" and the CM had her talk to Goofy on the phone while we were there and he wished her a Happy Birthday. All the CM's wished her a happy birthday while we were in line and such that day.

We ended her day with a birthday illuminations cruise. They had balloons, streamers, sign that said "Happy Birthday" with a lovely birthday cake and sodas for the cruise to watch Reflections of Earth Illuminations. People in Epcot sang "Happy Birthday" to her, too from the shore! She thought that was so cool!

Make sure you bring wrapping paper for presents with you if you don't wrap them at home; I forgot that and had to wrap her presents in WDW bags! They worked!!!!!

Anything do on that day and the CM's know it is a birthday and several days before and after(yes milk it LOL) they will make sure and say happy birthday. I would consider a caracter meal someplace where his favorite caracter is at.

My DD spent her 16th birthday in WDW this summer. We were checking into OKW on that day. We went to MK (while DH checked in) and got a birthday badge at City Hall (which she willingly wore since no one she knew would see her) then while walking through the Emporium one of the CM's saw her badge and called her over to the desk....he then placed a call, said it was for her and when she picked up the receiver Goofy was singing Happy Birthday to her....very nice touch. When we returned to OKW there were a bunch of helium balloons and an autographed picture of Tigger, Pooh and Eeyore (her favorite characters). She chose Margaritaville in City Walk for her dinner (great birthday celebration) but we had a great (slightly embarrassing) Disney day.

My ds is turning 7 during our trip.....and the day is his to decide what to do. He has a pirate cruise and dinner at Chef Mickey's arranged. I'm not sure what I'll do about a cake!

Here's a funny story about that Goofy birthday call.

It was my DH's birthday, and, being the big kid that he is, he had his MK Birthday Button on.

He was making a purchase, and the CM hands him the phone. We're both thinking "   is there something wrong with our American Express card??"

No, it was just Goofy singing Happy Birthday.:D

It was cute, but it sure gave us a bit of a scare at first.

For something unique you can have disney arrange to take the family on a boat and see fireworks...they have a birthday cake and balloons on it. The boat leaves from different areas- your choice. It is costly, I'm sure if you call Disney they might be able to tell you about other options they may have like the different character dining they have available. I'm sure whatever you choose, your son will love it.

hi: we've done a couple of birthdays at wdw over the years. what my kids liked to do when they were younger is get to plan the ENTIRE day. they picked where to eat and the activities; the rest of the family was just along for the ride.

If you make dinner reservations (or whatever), make sure the restaurant knows it's a birthday celebration. We had a BD at Liberty Tree Tavern, the cast came over and sang and the BD girl got a special cupcake. They had also decorated the table.
