Hi,
My best friend and I are taking our boys (9, 15) to WDW in August. The 9 year old's birthday is the day we arrive. Any suggestions for making the trip extra special? He does get embarrassed (no folks singing to him) but would love to maximize perks!

There are lots of things you can do. It will depend on where you are staying? Many of the Disney resorts are great at helping out. We stayed at the CBR for my daughter's 8th bday and they were able to have a balloon and an autographed/signed birthday card waiting for her in the room. There are places you can pre-order a Disney gift basket and have that waiting in the room as well.

If you go to the Magic Kingdom the day you arrive be sure to visit Guest Services. They will give your son a Birthday Button to wear all day and he will get lots of birthday wishes. You also get free ice cream :thumbsup2

Another suggestion is to make an ADR at one of the character meals. This can be as simple as having a meal with a cupcake for his birthday or you can order a cake ahead of time. We did this at the LTT. My daughter got a cake, they tossed confetti in her hair and sang to her.

Just some ideas! Have fun!

Thanks,
We'll be at por. We arrive before noon, but won't check in until after 3 i guess. Animal Kingdom has eve hours that night, so we'll probably head there...maybe visit ak lodge too. I never thought about a surprise in the room. both boys are desperate to get to disneyquest, but i hate to waste the opportunity of extra magic hours at animal kingdom in the eve., it is so hot in august....

Just a quick note, if your room is ready, they will let you check in early :) POR is our favorite resort, and we have been fortunate to check in early each time.

Do you just ask when you check in? That would be great. We stayed at por for one short night when we arrived last time, because animal kingdom didnt have availability for that night. I was really nervous, but figured it would be late at night when we got in, and we could leave early the next day. It was fabulous! We spent the whole day there...didnt even make it to the park that day, and loved it as well as ak. (it was about half the price too)

I didn't ask, rather each time they said that the room was ready and we could check in :) I was happy each time because I like to freshen up after the plane trip, and my husband likes to take a nap :) The little man, well, he likes to check out the tv asap and then hit the parks or pool :sunny:
