My son's classmate is turning 6 and he's going to a friend's birthday party next weekend. I know the girl's mom is taking her to the NYC American Girl store to get a doll for her birthday but there's no way of knowing which one. So, my question - is there something American Girl-related that we can get her as a birthday present? In the $25-$30 range. (I know nothing about these dolls!) It would just have to be from one of the regular local stores (TRU, Target, etc.) as I don't want to order from AG and worry that it won't get here in time. Thanks!

Great idea. Do you have a Michael's crafts near you? They have a ton of American Girl crafts there. If you have a 40% off coupon it would be a good deal. That is the only place I know that sells american girl stuff besides the actual american girl store.

Barnes and Noble sells a lot of American Girl books, craft kits. Michael's Craft stores also sell American Girl craft kits. Target sells My Generation dolls (same size as American Girls) but the accessories are not American Girl. My daughters have complained that the Target doll shoes don't fit the AG dolls...the clothing does.

I don't know how much time you have, but you could also order a gift card from American Girl for the girl to use when they go to the store.

Thanks everyone! These are great ideas. I never would have thought to check those stores. Really appreciate the help!

Michael's has some really cute craft sets, stickers, etc. etc. You could make up a little basket full of goodies.

Truthfully, if there is anyway to get her a gift card, I would go with that. My dd was able to do AGP for her birthday since they opened one here. My mom gave her money to spend at it.

I also second the idea to check Michael's for the AG craft kits to make things for the dolls. Just make sure it is age appropriate or that the child has the ability to do the craft if it is for an older age. My kids craft eyes are older than their abilities and we get stuck sometimes with crafts we thought would be fun but they just aren't able to do. (not necessarily AG, but just our observations over time.)

Check Amazon today. I think the new Marie and Cecile (names ?) mini dolls with a book are on sale for $14.89. My daughter would love them.
