Here's my situation:

DW and I are going to DLR tomorrow (1-8) and leaving Saturday (1-10) in the morning after checking out of PPH. Her birthday is on Saturday. Our original plan was to stay all day Friday and Saturday and depart late Saturday night. HOWEVER, one of her friends from college lost her battle with cancer this week and the memorial service will be held on Saturday (DW's birthday) in San Diego. Given the time constraints it seems we will not have a chance to redeem the gift card (and possibly not even have time to even get obtain it).

Anyone have any advice on how best to proceed to hopefully obtain the birthday gift card? I know there has to be a sympathetic ear among the CM's, perhaps at some supervisory level, but given reports of long lines at the ticket booths, I doubt a CM working the front lines would be interested in "wasting" valuable time on a sob story (and given the newness of the program I wouldn't suspect they would be in the habit of making exceptions just yet).

We are clearly not trying to scam the system as we would much prefer to be at the park for the entirety of DW's birthday. In fact, we'll be present at DLR on the morning of her birthday at the least, just not with enough time to visit the World of Disney. Furthermore, in order to get in a full two days at DLR we are spending an extra night in PPH and will spend additional money on food that we would not have spent had we stayed only Fri-Sat.

(sidenote: our original, original plan was an epic birthday week in WDW but that plan got modified to a visit to DLR because I have a business trip next week)

Thanks for any input!

I'm sorry about your loss. :(

Maybe call Guest Services before you go? Being on the phone, IMO, you won't feel as rushed to tell your story because you won't have a line of birthday people behind you. I would call them and see if they have any advice or if they point you in right direction.

Or since the rule changed that you don't have to use your Fun Card on your actual day, would it be possible for your DW to go real quick and just pick up the card so she can use it when you guys return?

My condolences to your DW regarding the loss of her friend.

If you can stop by DL in the morning, you can pick up the Fun Card and head down to San Diego. The card does not need to be used on the same day.

You can park in DtD where there is 3 hours parking for free.

IN the state of CA a gift card is not allowed to expire... Stand in line for approxamitley 1 hr and get the card and use it another day. My mom used hers on 1/6 /09 stood in line for 50 minutes to get it. the CM told her it was good for whenever she did not have to use it that day..
