Birthday dinner: Blue Bayou or Napa Rose?

Napa Rose has, by far, better food, and is friendly and not stuffy. BB is definitely fun for atmosphere, but only at a waterside table, the food is not special. We now just go for dessert when we want to experience the ambience.

Also, the bar at Napa Rose is great and has wonderful small plates. We've enjoyed that many times--kids are even welcome there!

Did both last week and Napa Rose > BB. Perhaps lunch or the desert option as someone suggested for BB. NR is very good, but I prefer Artist Point @ WL or Cali Grill @ Contempo in WDW myself. I went with the Prix Fixe menu @ NR to try different flavors. It was quite good, but I would have liked to try the grilled tuna or lamb chop dishes. I honestly felt that AP was more indicative of NW cuisine and Cali Grill of SoCal cuisine after eating @ NR, which just seemed a bit eclectic.

If you're a serious foodie like I am, you'll be very disappointed with BB. The best thing going for it is its unique movie-set atmosphere. The second best thing going for it is a very distant second. It's essentially steam table cafeteria food with outrageous prices.

Napa Rose is a fine-dining from-scratch serious restaurant. No comparison to BB, except where price is concerned. Constantly changing menu, creative and thoughtfully-plated dishes, and top-notch service.

Napa Rose, for your needs. No contest.

Do both. NR for dinner and BB for lunch. Split a meal or have dessert at BB. Make sure you post how to get a water side table or read on the boards...

Never eaten at Napa Rose. But Blue Bayou is amazing. Monte Cristo is delish. Also very romantic setting. Everyone has to eat there at least once

We ate there last Tuesday evening and had a wonderful experience and the food was excellent! Our server was Wendy and she was friendly. Ambience wasn't "stuffy" at all.

I agree - see if you can get a mid-afternoon reservation for dessert only at the Blue Bayou. I understand the appeal to the atmosphere, but the food isn't worth it.

Thank you so much! We ended up doing just this—on my birthday for dinner at Napa Rose, and then the next afternoon at 3:30 for just dessert at Blue Bayou.

Also, let me add that while I love the themed restaurants in WDW and I've always been happy with them, I'd never have been able to book a signature restaurant at 6 pm on a Friday night 3 weeks beforehand. Definitely an advantage to DLR!

NR was maybe 1/2 full last Thurs night @ 7pm for our dinner. Which, BTW, was $250 for one app, two entrees, three glasses of vino and 2 cups of coffee. My prix fixe menu was $90, which included an app, salad, entree sampler and desert. Perhaps a bit less than if I had ordered each course ala carte from the menu.
