Birthday Deserts

Since custom cakes are no longer delivered at MK restaurants, does anyone know if they will give birthday person a special desert or can you order a special birthday desert besides the basic cakes which we don like? I am not sure why that option is no longer available because every child wants to spend the day of their birthday at MK! duh

As of May 17th there was a generic type cake that serves 4-6 for $35 that I thought I read about here on the dis. They always have had generic cakes you can get at the podium when checking in to your sit down restaurant. Before it was a choice of vanilla or chocolate not sure what the new ones flavor is. I have to look into it too for my dad's 70th next trip. My son's 13th this past feb. I had to get the generic cake when we arrived at the castle for dinner. I wish they had the new one it looked cute.

Each TS restaurant in the MK now has a specialty dessert that can be ordered in advance as well as the standard podium cakes.

As far as giving the birthday person a special dessert there is no guarantee. Thousands of people are celebrating something special in DW every day so there is no way Disney or the restaurants will guarantee a celebration of each diner's special event. Some places will bring a cupcake or other free dessert or some other recognition, but it is up to the server and the restaurant so it is good that you are looking into ordering something special for your birthday person.

Don't forget that cupcakes are big at Disney World - both in popularity and in size! very theme park has them. Name the park and I can give you some options, if this would be helpful.

You still have the option of a podium cake at all MK restaurants as well as pre ordering a Mickey head cake. Aside from that you have the specialty desserts that differ at each restaurant. I've heard good things about them so far.

Pretty much. There has always been some inconsistency from time to time with cake orders at some locations, but they do still do custom cakes at the resorts. MK was definitely our chosen location to have our custom cakes, so it is a bit of a bummer, but we'll likely just plan on dining at a resort and ordering our cakes in the future.

@ChasingLeslie so these have to be ordered in advance? And can you use your DDP on them.... because if not, then what do you do with the dessert you get with your meal??? (i know....what a problem -- 2 desserts, lol)
