We are set to sail on the 7 day Western - Easter cruise on the Magic! 3 children in our party, ages 17, 15 and 13...only have copies of their birth certificiates and not the originals. I know per the cruise docs that you only have to have photo id if you are over 18. do you think we will be okay with just their birth certificate copies? Are the birth certificates really checked or is it just a pre-cautionary?

Thanks for your help!

They must be original, certified copies - not copies or hospital-issued. It cannot be a photocopy. I hope this helps.

This is from the Disney Cruise Line website:

"What documentation do I need to bring?

All U.S. and Canadian citizens must travel with proof of citizenship, which is a valid passport, original, state-certified birth certificate and picture identification, or a certified naturalization certificate with a picture identification. Acceptable forms of picture identification are state or provincial driver's license, or federal, state, province or local government photo I.D. card. Guests age 17 and under who are U.S. or Canadian citizens are only required to have proof of citizenship, excluding picture identification. These guidelines are based on U.S. government regulations which are subject to change at any time. It is the Guest's responsibility to check with their Travel Agent, government agencies, embassies or consulates prior to their vacation to ensure that they have proper documentation. Any Guest traveling without proper documentation will not be allowed to board the vessel and no refund of cruise fare will be issued.

New security guidelines require all adult Guests to show a picture I.D. to embark and disembark the ship in all ports, including Castaway Cay. Please be advised that anyone under the age of 18 wishing to go ashore unaccompanied will be required to have a consenting parent, guardian or other responsible adult with them at the gangway, to provide their signature as authorization."

The birth certificates need to be certified copies! They dont have to be the original just a certified copy of the original. I couldnt tell when you were leaving but if you have ANY doubt at all about them I would get one from the Vital Statistics where they were born or you can even get them from
http://www.vitalchek.com/?clicked=1

They check the birth certificates pretty well meaning they do look at them and they usually do check to make sure they are certified copies.

Our BC are laminated in plastic but do have a seal on them saying certified copy! If their BC say certified copy you will be fine!

As posted above.....if you are over 18 you need a passport OR a Birth Certificate AND photo ID.

Under 18 needs passport OR Birth Certificate.

DCL is very strict about this.
