Birnbaum's all time favorite restaurant in WDW.... the Wave?

We had breakfast at The Wave on our departure day and had a lovely experience. It was quiet, for one thing. Very welcome after a week at WDW. That's rare for any 1 credit TS...sometimes for the signatures, as well. The coffee was good. Our server was very friendly without hovering and my kids ate their weight in food. Surprised the heck out of me since two were suddenly very light eaters on vacation and the other ate constantly but small meals. NOBODY asked when the next meal would be on our way home and that never happens!

We loved our stay at CR and would absolutely visit The Wave again. If staying on the monorail, I would probably choose to end our MK day with a meal there rather than in the park.

The cynic in me suspects they may be trying to send more traffic to that restaurant... maybe it's not quite meeting targets and needs a little boost.

Exactly. I think that this happens ALL the time. I bet Disney pays people to say that such and such place is awesome and shouldn't be missed etc etc...

As the "Official" guide to WDW, I can promise you that there is nothing in the Birnbaum book that isn't approved by the Mouse. This is why the Birnbaum guide has so many nice photos in it too. I'll bet that Birnbaum book is the best selling Disney guide by a large margin.

I think it's a safe bet that Octoberbaby is spot-on with Disney paying for various social media comments. Could there be a "Double-naught spy*" among us???:cool2:

* Obscure Beverly Hillbillies reference lost on younger demographics.;)

Well, it's not the best on property but I love The Wave. One of the best non-signature restaurants for sure. My favorite dessert of all time is there (creamy flight).

I was reading Birnbaum's 2011 WDW Guide and I read that The Wave @ CR was awarded by Birnbaum's guide that it was the best all around restaurant in Disney. Is it really that good? I've seen some good reviews for it on here but not that much. If this is the case then I might have to try it someday....:thumbsup2

I think that was with a variety of other factors, including 'best kept secret' appeal, lower cost, waits, good service, etc. Definitely not even a top 10 on property...

Just like you or me!! Everyone has opinions and I don't put any more weight on their 'guide' than I would any other person. I sure don't agree with them, but that doesn't mean that they are wrong - just their opinion! :scratchin

I form my own opinions 'after' I dine there, and that's all that matters to me!;) I don't use 'any' guides to Disney.

Best??? We really enjoyed our breakfast here, ordered off the menus. Great service, food, and a quiet restaurant by Disney standards. Wonder what factors went into their assessment?

This year I must say it was food wise the best meal I had at a Disney restaurant (including signatures) but in recent years the food wasn't as good. So, although the food was superb I might have just been lucky.

That said, the restaurant itself is very forgettable in my opinion. I get the theme is meant to be very modern in line with the resort but it just feels like 'A N Other' restaurant with different coloured mood lighting. I'm guessing the theme is meant to be water, but I wouldn't immediately get it.

Whilst I think it's a perfectly fine establishment it's still on a list of "will cut if needed".
